Free YA Books Anyone?

by Stephanie Morrill

I've been really excited to show you guys something, but it just hadn't been quite time for the big unveiling.

This is my May release, The Revised Life of Ellie Sweet. She's a teen writer just like you guys, and look at that mischief in her eyes - you just know she's up to no good, don't you? Here's a little bit about the story:

Don't just get even - write a novel
When ousted by her lifelong friends, teen writer Ellie Sweet takes to story writing as self-therapy. She casts herself as Lady Gabrielle, a favorite in the medieval Italian court, her ex-friends as her catty rivals, and makes a pesky rake of the boy who thinks he’s too good for her in real life. But when Ellie achieves the impossible and her “coping mechanism” becomes a published novel, she faces the consequences of using her pen as her sword.

This book was super fun to write, and it's an extra fun release because I'm helping launch a new line of YA books with several other amazing writers: Laura Smith, Laura Kurk (both of whom you might recognize from being on Go Teen Writers), Jennifer Murgia, and Rajdeep Paulus.

Laura Smith is putting together a "Street Team" for us where you get free books in exchange for helping us promote the new line. And who doesn't like free books? If you want to check out details and get signed up, head on over to Laura Smith's blog.

Happy Saturday, everyone!

  5. Oooo!!!! How extremely exciting, Stephanie! Me oh my! I’m on a ‘un-offical fictional reading break’ right now, but that will be one of the first books I want to read when I’m off of it. Such a cool sounding storyline… And wow, I just like your characters! Congratulations. Amazing cover, too! I really like her eyes. =)

    1. Yes, Anne-girl! It feels like forever ago, but yes, many of you helped me with what kind of story Ellie would want to write.

  8. Will your book be christian fiction?

    1. I'll be honest, I don't know the best way to answer this question :) It's a clean book and would be publishable in the Christian market, but there's not much of a spiritual thread or takeaway message, if that makes sense.

    2. Ok! So non-Christians wouldn't have a problem with reading it, then?

    3. I have lots of friends of different beliefs, and I wouldn't feel weird at all about handing this to them. Everyone is different in what they find offensive or off-putting, of course, but there are no conversion scenes or deep spiritual conversations like you might find in a traditional book labelled Christian Fiction. I was intentional about keeping it clean, but there's no spiritual storyline or arc.

  10. This sounds awesome! Unfortunately...took a look over there on her blog. I don't have much of a Pinterest following, and I don't have Facebook, Twitter, or even a blog yet. :P I use Google+ frequently...but...yeah. Who knows. :(

    Oh well! Great idea! :D

  15. It sounds like a good read. There's a movie that follows that same idea and I always thought to myself, wouldn't it make more sense if this was a book. :P

  17. Wow! I remember you saying something about that plotline, but I didn't realize that The Revised Life of Ellie Sweet was it. I sort of wondered what happened to that "girl writes book to get back at her enemies" thing. And then when I read this post and found out that the Ellie Sweet book WAS "the 'girl writes book to get back at her enemies' thing", I literally got up and bounced around. Can't wait to read!

  22. Do you have any idea about a UK release date?? Will it be the same as the USA one? I can't wait!! If it's later, I'll just get my grandma to send me a copy, hehehe. Oh the perks of having most of your family living in the States. I miss America! Especially IHOP ;)

    1. YES, IHOP is excellent :)

I'm not sure about the UK release date. Just sent an email asking!

It'll be available in ebook only for a bit even in the states, so it seems like you would at least be able to download it there. *Shrugs.*
