The Dates:
The retreat will run Friday, August 16 - Sunday, August 18.
We'll be operating on Kansas City time, but in our heads will be some place like this:
Deal?
What will we be doing during the retreat?
This isn't a conference where you'll be taking classes and stuff. This is more about writing and socializing and encouraging each other. So if you plan to participate, I would recommend you start thinking about what your goal is for the weekend. Is it writing 10,000 words? Finding critique partners? Plotting out that next project? Or maybe you've been away from writing for a bit, and you just need some motivation to get you back into it. The goal can be whatever you want.
Where will this great socializing be taking place?
The Go Teen Writers email loop and blog.
Next Wednesday, I'll share the link for you to apply to join the Go Teen Writers email loop. This loop will be on Yahoo Groups. (A few of you smarties have already found it, but I haven't approved you yet since I don't have the settings quite right. I'll approve you next Wednesday.)
I believe joining a Yahoo Group requires a Yahoo ID, but those are free accounts, and you can select to have the email sent to whatever address you want. This is a group that I will moderate closely. Every member has to be approved before they can join, and I'll have the ability to delete members should someone slide past my radar.
Or if they get on my bad side.
Just kidding!
If you're unable to join the email loop for whatever reason, there will be plenty of action going on at the blog as well. We'll be posting discussion topics three times on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, at 6:00am, 12pm, and 6pm.
And there will be giveaways!
Blink has been very generous and has donated copies of some of their fabulous YA books for us to give away throughout the weekend, plus Jill and I will be giving away our fiction titles, and two paperback copies of the Go Teen Writers book.
So who's in? What questions do you have?
I. Can't. WAIT! :D It's going to be a great weekend. Thank you so much, Jill and Stephanie, for putting this together.
ReplyDeleteI hope I can make it, I'm going to be away visiting my cousins at the time, so I may not be able to. Hope there's another one, so I can participate in the fun, too!
ReplyDeleteSo excited about this! I generally have very busy weekends, but I will be doing my very best to participate!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! This is is so exciting. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteSo excited!
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna hopefully finally get started on my novel that weekend.
I'm really overly excited.
I tried to create a yahoo id but it requires you use a phone number!
ReplyDeleteReally? Mine didn't...but I created mine years ago, so maybe that's a new thing?
DeleteHow will we find the yahoo group? What's the name...will you post a link on how we can join?
DeleteI found an old yahoo account I created a year ago to use but if you want to create an account now you need to use a number.
DeleteOny, I'll post the link next Wednesday.
DeleteAnonymous, that's interesting. I know on Google you have the option to provide a phone number for password recovery purposes, but I didn't realize Yahoo made that mandatory these days.
You can sign in with your Google account or Facebook. That's what I did.

I'm really excited! If my mom and dad let me do it...
ReplyDeleteLike Stephanie said, we'll be posting all the topics and contests here on the blog as well, so you can get all the same information here, though you would miss some of the email loop discussions. But you can start your own discussions here on the blog too.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you can come for part of it. Pop in for one or two of the discussions/giveaways if you can't be here the whole weekend.
I can't wait. And so, I will need to make a yahoo account?
ReplyDeleteTo participate in the eloop, I believe you'll need a Yahoo ID. I'll post the link to sign up next Wednesday.
DeleteI just made an account, and it's super simple.
DeleteWow, this sounds awesome! I just discovered this website, so this'll be a great chance to get to know some of you guys, and (finally!) start planning my next project!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait! And if I don't have a specific goal for the weekend... does it matter? I just want to be in the thick of things and talk about stuff with other writers and meet other writers.
ReplyDeleteNope! The goal is just a suggestion, not mandatory :)
DeleteI'm so psyched for this :D Hopefully I'll be able to get the emails on my iPhone. I'll be camping somewhere from Friday to Sunday, so this will be PERFECT for me!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait!!! I really want to be able to participate but I don't think my parents want me to become a hermit over the weekend so I may only be able to participate in part of it. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's just fine :) We're thrilled you'll be joining us.
DeleteThe same thing will probably happen to me. Oh well. At lest we can do some, right?
DeleteI'm in, but I'm also in charge of preschool games during vacation Bible school next week so I'll miss a little bit : (
ReplyDeleteSO EXCITED!!
Ohno! I'm going to be away for part of that weekend...and I have a soccer tournament...oh dear.
ReplyDeleteWill you guys be doing another one that I could take part in? ("in which I could take part," to be grammatically correct, right Jill?)
Bummer :( And assuming it goes well and people have fun, yes I'm sure we'll do another.
DeleteYeah, I wish I could join too, but we have a family get-together that weekend... :-/
DeleteI'm very excited :) Although I don't, ahem, think I'll be going to a place quite as peaceful as the photo above. . . .
ReplyDeleteNot sure about getting into the email loop. . .do you have to actually CREATE an email to do it? I think I'll hop on over and see. If not, then I can certainly come in to chat and encourage.
I'll have to be thinking about that goal. Ten thousand words sounds good, but maybe I should challenge myself a little more. Although if I get too much done, I won't have anything to do for the next 100-4-100 Challenge! haha.
No, you can have a Yahoo ID send email to any address you want. I don't have a Yahoo email address, but I have a Yahoo ID and it just sends everything to my Gmail account.
DeleteHow exactly do you create a Yahoo ID without creating a Yahoo email address? I tried to sign up, but I can't find a way to sign up and link it to my Gmail account without creating a Yahoo email.
DeleteI'm not sure. And maybe they do make you create a Yahoo address, but when you sign up for a group, you don't have to have emails sent there. I'm not sure. Maybe wait until I post the link to sign up, and then see what Yahoo asks you to do if you just want to join a group list.
DeleteTo sign in with your gmail address, under the sign up/in for yahoo there are two options for either Facebook or Google. Click on Google and you can let it use your Google address for the group. If you have trouble with this let me know, and I'll help. :)
DeleteNice. I'll won't be able to participate the whole weekend, but I will definitely drop in.
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo! This shall be great :D
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I'll do this or not. We might be celebrating my birthday that weekend.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of birthdays, do you have an age limit for this? I'm about to be 22.
~Robyn Hoode
We don't have an age cap, no. We'd love to have you whenever it's convenient. And happy early birthday :)
DeleteThanks! :)

I don't know how much time I'll be able to commit to this, and I have no idea what goal to have. School's in for me, so my writing is mainly summaries and essays of late. Still want me? Lol
ReplyDeleteAlways, Lydia :)
DeleteMake a girl's day, why don't you? I'm in!
DeleteI can't wait for this!
ReplyDeleteCAN'T WAIT!!!! I'll be there!!!!!!! :D

ReplyDeleteI'm ready! I'm ready! I'd LOVE to! It's so great to be able to chat with other writers my age! !
ReplyDelete*takes a deep breath*
*disables "!" key on keyboard*
So we'll be emailed on Wednesday?
I love the enthusiasm, Tierney! Yes, a post will go live on Wednesday with a link to join the group.
DeleteAwesome. Can't wait.
Delete*gives up*
*enables "!" key*
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, that made me laugh :)
DeleteAnd this is good time, because the 40 Hour Famine is on that weekend, too -- so I can put my hungry stomach woes out of my mind and WRITE to forget!
ReplyDelete*timing
DeleteY'all are hardcore! When I was in youth group, we just did 30 hours.
DeleteI am still not sure how to join. Can I receive some more information about this? I'm really interested!
ReplyDeleteInfo on joining will be posted next Wednesday!
DeleteI will try to make it for sure! I was wondering, are there any specific times that you would be doing things? Can you just go on at anytime in the day and chat with people? Are there any agendas? I am Pacific Daylight Time, so I don't want to be up at six in the morning doing this :)
ReplyDeleteThis will be a come and go event, so no need to set your alarm crazy early! I'm sure chatter will be going on at all hours on the blog and on the email loop.
DeleteYayz! :D Super excited for this! ^_^ I should have a quiet weekend, so I should be able to participate on all of it. :D Yay!
ReplyDeleteAnd I think my goal will be to plan out my next project... having trouble deciding between two ideas, so perhaps my goal will be to pick which one. :D
Super pumped!
~hannah!♥
Wow, what a great idea! Question; is it sort of like Camp Nanowrimo? I'm so excited, this is going to be awesome.
