To celebrate the coming holiday and vacation, we're hosting the 12 Giveaways of Christmas. That's 12 giveaways, 12 days in a row.
It's now time for Day 5.
Each giveaway will run for 48 hours, so be sure and check back each day to see what giveaway is next and who the winners are.
Today, I'm giving away a copy of my friend Nadine Brandes's dystopian novel A Time to Die. She also has some writing advice to share with you.
Advice for Teen Writers
And a second piece of advice (because I can’t just give one) is to go to a writer’s conference! I attended my first one at age 17 and it drop-kicked me to an entire new level of writing. (Painful, but totally worth it.) Even if it’s a small conference, try to attend. You won’t regret it!
Thanks, Nadine! That's great advice. As mentioned, I'm giving away a copy of A Time to Die by Nadine Brandes. International entries are welcome. If an international person wins, I'll ship the book from The Book Depository.
Here's a little bit about the story:
How would you live if you knew the day you'd die?
Parvin Blackwater believes she has wasted her life. At only seventeen, she has one year left according to the Clock by her bedside. In a last-ditch effort to make a difference, she tries to rescue Radicals from the government's crooked justice system.
But when the authorities find out about her illegal activity, they cast her through the Wall -- her people's death sentence. What she finds on the other side about the world, about eternity, and about herself changes Parvin forever and might just save her people. But her clock is running out.

Thanks for the advice! I so need to make a writing habit for myself!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like just the kind of book I'd read. And awesome advice, too. Thanks, Miss Williamson!
ReplyDeleteI mean Mrs. How embarrassing/
DeleteOh wow. This book just sounds ridiculously awesome. :D Thanks for the advice.
ReplyDeleteI want to read this book because the story idea sounds really cool. Thanks for the advice!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on writing habits. Currently I get up at 5 am every day to get my writing in. It's hard to concentrate when you have four siblings :)
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Hannah! That sounds grueling, but what a fantastic habit to be in. (*feeling inspired to get up earlier*) Yes, siblings (let alone four! Wow!) can be quite the distraction. Keep up the hard work! :D
DeleteThank you for your advice! A Time to Die sounds awesome--I saw it featured on Tricia Mingerink's blog a few weeks ago. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice! I'm doing my best to start a writing habit . . . it's going a bit iffily.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to read A Time To Die because it sounds really cool.
It sounds pretty interesting, because I once had a really similar idea, but instead of a clock, it was a self-writing diary that was running out of space.
ReplyDeleteI'd read it. :) Cool idea.
DeleteThat's such a cool idea, Saber! I'm a firm believer that, even if everyone in the world had the same story concept, we'd all write it differently. Write yours anyway! ;)
DeleteThat's an awesome idea!
DeleteWhy do I want to read the book? Because it's being given away! I love free stuff!
ReplyDeleteAND, in all seriousness, it sounds awesome. I love Dystopia.

A Time to Die sounds like something I'd really enjoy reading! Dystopian books are always interesting, and it sounds creative!
ReplyDeleteWow your book sounds really interesting! Plus the cover is super cool and makes me even more interested to read it after reading the synopsis.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lauren! If you do end up reading it, be sure to tell me what you think! :) (And yes, I still drool over the cover, heehee)
DeleteI've been wanting to read this book for awhile now, it sounds really interesting!
ReplyDeleteNow I really want to read this book... If I don't win the giveaway I'll probably just buy it myself.
ReplyDeleteGAH I'VE BEEN WANTING THIS BOOK
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking this looks like such a great book, and I love dystopian/fantasy stuff. I just think it looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a really thought-provoking book!
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds pretty interesting.
ReplyDeleteYour book sounds amazing! Totally my style :-) For reading I mean.
ReplyDeleteWriting habits are good. The one issue I end up with is keeping the habit when I translate between forms of writing. There's writing, editing, getting beta readers, and trying to publish. The first two are easy to keep a habit with, but once I start depending on other people, it gets more difficult.
ReplyDeleteI hear ya, Jessi! Juggling so many forms of the writing world can get quite tough. I'm still figuring out my own rhythm, but I've found that as long as I have a habit for my novel writing and my editing, the other stuff is easier to squeeze in wherever I can.
DeleteI agree, it's hard when other people get thrown into the mix. Keep chipping away at different habits and schedule attempts until you find one that works best for you! (And then, when you find it, tell me how you do it so I can copy you! LOL)
This books looks cool! And great advice. ^ ^
ReplyDeleteStori Tori's Blog
Oh!! I was just looking at this the other day!! Looks like a really cool piece of fiction and an interesting read!
ReplyDeleteI've noticed A Time to Die around the Internet before, but I've never really investigated it. I'm so glad this post has given me a closer look, because it sounds extremely interesting! And your advice, Nadine, is excellent! I keep telling myself that maybe a writing conference isn't that important, but then all I see is "GO TO A WRITING CONFERENCE." Okay, I will make that a priority. And your point about developing writing habits now really hit me. I need to focus on creating good habits for my writing life. Thanks for the post, Nadine, and the giveaway, Jill!
ReplyDeleteThank you, and you're welcome, Rachelle! Yes, go to a writer's conference! :D Can't say it enough. It's the one step forward that I really felt switched on the "I-want-to-be-serious-about-my-writing" side of my brain.
DeleteI hope you enjoy A Time to Die, if you read it!
Wow, this looks like a great book!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an awesome book!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, going to a writer's conference isn't an option for me right now. But maybe soon!
Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have already read it. It was awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome! :D
ReplyDeleteOoh, I've heard good things about this book; it looks really interesting!
ReplyDeleteWow this sounds like an awesome book! What a captivating idea...
ReplyDeleteMy first reason for wanting to read this book is because it's free. I love free stuff! :D I am also hoping on getting some inspiration to not waste my own life. The world in this book may be different to mine, but the fact that most people just sit around doing nothing still remains.
ReplyDeleteMay it inspire you to avoid doing just that! Life demands pursuit! And God's given you the perfect amount of time with which to catch it. :D
DeleteThis book sounds amazing!!! The title is perfect and it catches my attention immediately. Then reading the description makes me want to read the book even more!!! I reall hope to read this book!!!
ReplyDeleteI want to read this book because the synopsis makes me think about my own life and how I should use the time I have.
ReplyDeleteOoh! This story sounds really interesting. Entering!
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds really good! I enjoy dystopian stories and this one has an interesting premise.
ReplyDeleteI haven't really read many newer books, but this one sounds like it would be quite enjoyable. Plus, it's about time to read another Fiction one. I've been reading a ton of non-Fiction lately...
ReplyDeleteI've been eyeing this on Enclave ever since the Kickstarter. Would love to read it!
ReplyDeleteWow, I've been interested in this book since I first saw it on Speculative Faith, so I'm really excited about getting the chance to win it. I love the concept of a clock that tells you how long you have to live. It just sounds like the kind of book I would love to read. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like such a cool idea for a book!
ReplyDeleteI never win anything, but it would be cool to once! I would love to read this book. Discovering a new author I hadn't heard of before is pretty sweet :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the advice! I was just talking to my dad about getting more of a routine last night...
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine had an idea sort of like that, once. It sounds like something I'd love to read! I can never seem to find enough really good books, and when I do they're gone like lightning... I read super fast in my head. XD
Sounds supercool! I want to go to a conference as well...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much sharing your advice and your novel with us! :) Like you've shared before, I read the Hunger Games and liked them but found them, in omitting God, to lack hope. I really want to read your novel in part because it sounds like a fantastic idea and in part because I'm hungry for speculative fiction from a Christian perspective with a message of true hope.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Georgina! My goal with these books to convey hope even in the midst of sorrow and hardship. I'd love to hear what you think of it after you read it! :)
DeleteReally interesting concept..
ReplyDeleteOooh, this book sounds super interesting!

I'd like to win this book because I'm trying to read more YA books and this one looks pretty interesting!
ReplyDeleteGreat advice! Establishing a good solid writing habit is something I definitely need to work on.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds cool and inspiring! And I'd love to go to a conference someday (okay, I'd actually probably be scared out of my mind, but you know, it'd be a good experience). Just gotta find one that's nearby and not too expensive... :)
ReplyDeleteBe brave and save! ;-) The two things needed for a writer's conference. [grin] You can do it! The first one can be intimidating, but if you go in expecting that, it will help you weather the storm and come out a stronger writer! :D
DeleteWhy do I want to read this book? The description is riveting. Plus, I'd like to read a few more new books soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm entering!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the /your information.

Poor Parvin! One of the many reasons I am interested in this book is that often I fear of wasting my own life. Parvin will probably feel like a friend because we share a view.
ReplyDeleteI think that's a fear a lot of people have in common. May Parvin's story inspire you to pursue life and shalom!
DeleteSounds like a wonderful story, and what a pretty cover! Adding this to my to-read whether I win the copy or not!
ReplyDeleteI love the premise of the novel. Would LOVE to read it!
ReplyDeleteThe whole idea of the book sounds really interesting!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting story! :)
