August 2017 Word War: Day Four

Hey, writers!

It makes me a bit twitchy to not be able to be writing with you all! Technically, I'm making progress on a writing tutorial, but it's just not the same as working on fiction.

How's the word war going for you so far?

What's a word war?

A word war is when you and another writer (or in this case, lots of other writers!) compete to see who can write the most words in a designated period of time. Sometimes these are also referred to as "word sprints."

How does it work?

Write as much as you're able to today, and when you're done, leave a comment in this post about how the day went. You can share how many words you wrote, stumbling blocks, a favorite line you wrote, whatever you want!

You can also start mini word wars in the comments section of this blog, or on the Go Teen Writers Community Facebook group. (If you apply to join, leave me a comment on the blog so I can get you approved.)

The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we write. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the war goes on!

How long does it last?

This word war began Monday and will end tomorrow night. It's a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's never too late to join, and you don't have to participate every day.

Hope you have a productive day!

    1. I'd like to! What times?

    2. How about :20— :50? I can't do later than that because I have to go somewhere. If it's in that time range, I'm open. :)

  2. Hello, everyone! I hope you are making good progress today. I am trying out word sprints on Write Deck, since I saw people were using it the last week of words wars we had. If anyone wants to sprint with me over there later today, let me know!

    1. Word sprints ? What are they ?

    2. A word sprint is when you write for a word count rather than a time slot. So, instead of setting aside fifteen minutes to write, I might make a goal to write 500 words.

    3. Hi! lol
I'm trying to, and now I have the evening to write, so I'm happy. :)
I'd love to word sprint with you! Then I don't have to rush and I can write while looking at my notes and maybe researching if I have to! Tell me when you'd like to do it, and I'll probably be free. :D

    7. Good for you! I hope it works out for you. I'm sure that would be very exciting. :)
Are you entering Camp NaNo as well? I'm not, but others are trying to finish their first drafts before NaNo.

    8. I will! :)
The word Sprints don't have a time limit, right? I don't think they do. I guess it's just for reaching a certain word goal you choose.

    9. I'm ready! Do you want to word sprint?

    10. Yes. Do we let each other know when we reach our goals or set a specific goal?

    11. Umm, I guess. I'm new to this. How would you like to do it? I'm fine either way, though, it might take longer since I may have to research some things.

    12. Why don't we both aim for 1000 words?

    13. That's exactly what I was thinking! That's weird. So, I guess we just start now?

    14. Should we report back once we finish writing that many words?

    15. May I hop in for just the first 250 words? I wrote over 1,000 this morning and don't want to push myself too hard this afternoon.

    16. On second thought, I seem to have enough stamina to aim for the 1,000 word goal as well. See you both at the finish line!

    17. I've reached 1,00 words.

      Good job Olivia!

    19. You beat me by 2 minutes! :)
I had to research a few things during the sprint, but I'm proud of my progress! I'm sure you are as well. *high fives*

    20. Great job, LHE! You made excellent time for having research to do. I'll probably wait until the end of my draft to work on getting my facts right. :P I overwrote by 30 words, myself. Thank you for sprinting with me!

    21. Thanks! You think? I'm happy with myself. :)
That sounds like a good plan. I'm partially a perfectionist, and I can't stand to let it wait. lol ....Except when it comes to grammar. lol
      You did great! :D

What about you, Evan? How'd you do?

    22. I just finished . Took a few hours for me cause I got busy but I did my 1,000 words . It just took a LOnG time due to dinner , and some other things.

    23. You did great! I had to do some researching, so that did take some time for em as well. Lol
I'm glad you asked to word sprint me. This really helped. Thank you so much. :D
It's a word sprint so we didn't have a time limit. That helped me. Do you guys want to do some more tomorrow or maybe later tonight, if I'm free? It would be later if I did decide to write more. lol
      God Bless!

  3. So far, I have 1,396 words so far for today. Maybe I'll write a little more later tonight, but I'm not sure....
Thank you all for doing the Word Sprints with me (Evan White and Olivia)! I had a wonderful time and i'm happy with my progress! Late the other night, I came up with part of an outline which is really, really helping. It's been a great day. I can't wait for tomorrow and I can't wait to see how much I wrote total this week!
    God Bless!
