I'm fond of saying that ideas are everywhere. Well, it's true. They are. It's all how you look at things. Get your imagination running high, then gaze around you and see where your brain goes. There are more logical ways of coming up with story ideas, of course, and those can be fun too. In this Storyworld Shorts video, I'll share some of the many ways I've come up with story ideas and give examples. And let me just say . . . the Venus Fly Trap is a plant that offers SO MANY IDEAS!
Assignment time! Look around you. Find some interesting or strange object in your house and give me a "What if . . . ?" question about it. Let's see if we can come up with some fun ideas today.
*Looks around room and spots object* What if there was a magic piggybank, and whenever you put a coin inside it would transform into a genie and grant you a wish?
*Finds an object* What if instead of cogs and crystals, tiny people lived inside our watches and their whole life was devoted to keeping things in a steady, ceaseless rhythm? And what if one of them was bad at keeping a beat?
What if the static on your radio wasn't static at all? What if it was someone trapped inside the radio, trying to get a message out into the world in hopes of rescue?
Coming up with new stories idea is so much fun! I always enjoy remembering the weird places/happenings that inspired my stories.
