So despite the fact that you learn about Assyria and Babylon separate from Greece and Rome, they were not only aware of each other, but often had as much contact with each other as we do with countries like France and China today. So especially if you're doing a historical fiction, make sure you don't get so zoned in on your chosen culture that you forget who else was out there at the time, and that often they weren't so much "out there" as "next door".
If you end up doing classical anything, I recommend this source for ancient literature and histories by ancient historians (who can give you a good picture of how they regarded things at the time): http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/
Don't worry, you can get stuff in English ;)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4024721400572472213.post-40033829571127560662013-03-10T08:42:37.452-05:002013-03-10T08:42:37.452-05:00Maybe you'll set the trend with Regency fantas...Maybe you'll set the trend with Regency fantasy ;)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15317792300616098592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4024721400572472213.post-34630566381656903732013-03-09T06:45:39.128-06:002013-03-09T06:45:39.128-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Allisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05433338978586263492noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4024721400572472213.post-41184564591358404732013-03-09T06:39:05.116-06:002013-03-09T06:39:05.116-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Allisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05433338978586263492noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4024721400572472213.post-55342326985934775732013-03-08T23:41:24.655-06:002013-03-08T23:41:24.655-06:00I'm sensing some new story ideas might be comi...I'm sensing some new story ideas might be coming on with the thoughts of all these different eras.Jill Williamsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11943570354349667196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4024721400572472213.post-45861134539580111382013-03-08T23:40:54.681-06:002013-03-08T23:40:54.681-06:00Write it, Emily!Write it, Emily!Jill Williamsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11943570354349667196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4024721400572472213.post-279329394465984602013-03-08T23:40:34.386-06:002013-03-08T23:40:34.386-06:00You're welcome, Kaitlin! And then 80s and 90s went into fantasy big time. 2000s, dystopian. With the swords and fancy clothes and knights and stuff. The magic seems to fit right in.

Also, not many people have attempted fantasies for WWII or the Civil War because it would be difficult to do. If the author were to undermine the tragedy of the Holocaust or something by accident, it would be really bad. The issues are kind of touchy still so many people might be offended. Nobody is offended if you say stuff about what happened in medieval times.

That said, a WWII or CW fantasy would be pretty cool if it could be done without significantly changing what happened.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4024721400572472213.post-27057158817655492652013-03-08T17:22:27.582-06:002013-03-08T17:22:27.582-06:00OOHHH!
