Contest Updates

by Stephanie Morrill

The 100 words for 100 days writing challenge is underway! I crunched some numbers and here's how the age groups broke down:

12 or younger - 8 participants
13, 14, 15 - 109 participants (yowzer!)
16, 17, 18 - 91 participants
19, 20, 21 - 30 participants
Old fogies group - 22 participants (We're small, but mighty!)

Because they have the most participants, everyone in the 13, 14, 15 age group has automatically been entered to win a 5,000 word critique. The drawing for that will happen at the end of the challenge.

Also, at the end of the writing challenge, whichever age group wrote the most words per person will be entered to win an additional 5,000 word critique. So for example, we'll add up all the words the 12 or younger group wrote and divide by 8 to arrive at their words per person total. Which means every word you write helps your age group.

Also, I'm thrilled to announce the winners from our 500 word free-write:

First Place
Rachelle Rea
Deborah Rocheleau

Second Place
Clare Kolenda
Julie Potrykus

Third Place
Nicole Godard
Anna Schaeffer

Honorable Mentions
Deborah Rocheleau (also placed first)
Julie Potrykus (also placed second)
MacKenzie Pauline
Rebekah Hart
Caitlin Hensley

Congratulations to all of you! And a HUGE thank you to Erica Vetsch and Shellie Neumeier who devoted so much time to this contest.

Some of the winning entries will be available on Saturday. Have a great day, everyone!

  6. Congratulations to all the others who placed in the contest! I'm looking forward to reading some of the winning entries!

It's interesting to see how many 100 for 100 Challenge participants are in each age category. Plus, I just think it's exciting to know that so many other people are doing the challenge alongside me. It's motivation :)

Oh drat - Rachelle reminded me to check this contest out but I didn't and now I'm too late to enter. :P Oh well! Maybe I'll try writing along on my own. :)
