Last day to sign up for the 100 for 100 challenge!

by Stephanie Morrill

I hope everyone's weekend was more restful than mine. Mine involved a goat trying to eat my daughter's skirt, my son bringing me a handful of dog poop while I was in the middle of doing dishes, and the low-battery chirp thingy on the smoke detector waking me at 6 a.m on Saturday morning.

So a little motivation is exactly what I need this morning!

Today is both the first day of the challenge and the last day to get signed up. If you still have not signed up, but you want to partake, click here to get registered. If you have registered already but haven't received an email from me about how to log your words, please send me an email telling me so. (Note: I make a habit of turning off email on Sunday, so if you registered yesterday, your email should be coming this afternoon.)

Again, the 100 for 100 challenge is for all ages and the idea is to write 100 words a day (which takes, like, 10 minutes) for 100 days. It may not seem like much, but it means in December you'll have at least 10,000 words done on your manuscript. And a chance at winning a 10,000 word critique and being able to sport this beauty:

For full contest details, you can see the original post here.

Have a great writing day, everyone!

  1. So excited!!!

As a matter of fact, my weekend wasn't more restful. My state football team lost the game, which nearly kills a finatic like me. And my dog keeps barking at mysterious noises in our windbreak while I'm sleeping in the tent. And I'm breaking a horse.

    1. You are seriously breaking a horse? I wish I could do that some day! :)

    2. Sierra, breaking a horse is training it. As in getting it used to the halter, bridle, and saddle, as well as teaching the commands for when you ride it.
At least that is my inexperienced definition.

    3. Yeah Julie-Anne, that's what we are doing. he's been halter broke, now I'm riding him. My dad is helping, but I was the first one on his back. it's very fun:)

    4. Haha, Sierra, I guess I was just using the cowboy lingo. It is very fun. A little scary though, because the first time I got on him, a bee was attacking him. It's not so much hard, as time consuming.

  4. Ooh! I can hardly wait to start… Only I need to really hurry and get more of my plot-line down, because I’m kinda lost on that right now. =D Thank you so much for doing this. ~Aidyl

  5. I'm so jealous, Sierra! I did manage some quality reading yesterday, so that was nice :)

  6. Wait, wait, wait ;)... do we log the word count at the end of the week or everyday?

  7. With the log, I was wondering whether it was cumulative or not. i.e. If we write 700 words in the first week and 800 words in the second week, in the second week box do we put 800 or 1500 (700 + 800)?

    1. Good question! No, just put your total for that week, and we'll add it all up at the end.

    2. I'm confused about this too, since the "sample writer" has increasingly larger number inputted...

    3. Nope, the sample writer is just writing more words some weeks than others.

  8. Can't wait to start tonight!
I told myself after I finished the first draft of my last project that my next one would be planned out. Haven't quiet mapped it all out yet, so it's going to be an adventure! Hopefully, 100 days from now, I will have made some new best friends after spending some time daily learning about their story ;)

  9. Computer was having some difficulties, but I hope I've signed up in time (I'm in NZ and the time zones confuse me to no end.
For future reference, what time zone are you in?

    1. Yeah, I know it's kinda confusing for our wonderful participants on the other side of the world :) We'll just do our best to not confuse each other too much!

We're in Central Daylight Time here in Kansas City. http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=405

  10. Do we log in everyday? Or just once at the end of the week?

I'm in australia, so *technically* my monday is a day ahead of yours (yes, we're from the future ;P). So I'll just start counting a day ahead, if that's alright? (Or should I count a day behind?) :) Ah, the techincalities of living on the opposite side of the earth.

    1. Just once at the end of the week, Cait. I'll send a reminder, if you signed up. Hopefully it'll reach you all the way over there in the future :)

And we'll just do our best to not confuse each other too much!

    2. The future...I like that xDD

  11. Oh yeah it is soo confusing being a day ahead, I'm in New Zealand which is even more into the future ;P.
Oh thank you for doing this! It's really funny having all these people fretting about plots, I just started writing and the plot came
[I know that's not technically right for writing] heehee: right for writing. It was really refreshing not plotting and just writing, you'll probably have to do this again because I haven't written 708 words in a day in an age.
