Stephanie and I decided to start "Inspirational Tuesdays and Thursdays" in which we'll post some of our favorite quotes with you guys and share how those quotes have impacted us.
Here is one that a friend gave to me in a frame for Christmas. Talk about a clever gift for a writer!
When I first started out, Diana Sharples was my closest writer friend. She and I were both writing for teens, we were both prolific, and we were both beyond tenacious in our journey to be traditionally published. She and I got each other through a lot of frustrating and exciting times. And for several years, we ran an online critique group that had as many as thirty different writers. I loved that group. And I think about all those authors every once in a while and wonder how they're doing. Good times.

I'm a pretty big fan of Lily J. and Elizabeth Liberty Lewis. I have been exchanging emails with both of these girls lately and they are both such good writers and so encouraging. Cara Putman and Stephanie Morrill have both had huge impacts on me from the mentor side of things, too. I'm so thankful for all of those lovely ladies! You girls rock!

DeleteI've met so many wonderful writer friends thanks to things like GTW and NaNoWriMo, but some of the most influential have been Liam (first online writer friend I ever made and whose blog pointed me toward the wonderful online teen writer community), Sarah (with whom I organized a critiquing event and who I love talking to), Scott (whose book I beta read, the experience of which taught me a lot about beta/author relations) and Robyn (with whom I've spent many a lovely hour talking about books and life in general). I know I've forgotten someone, but I adore you all and am so glad to have met you.

Thank you also to Olivia Nash for your encouragement! Laura, you were there from the beginning, three years ago, when we were ignorant and naïve (And had about 50 nicknames each). We have come so far, and it's all because I said, "hey guess what! I started a book!" and you said, "Really? Can I see?" Thank you soooo so much for all the ideas and help you have given to me. Emily, your critiques are the best and you make me ask questions that I would never have thought about. you bring a whole new sense of realism to my work. Love you all bunches! ReplyDeleteMy best friend at six is still my closest friend and partner in writing. we have both done Nanowrimo together and collaborate on plots and characters no mater how weird or crazy we think it all sounds. Thanks, Lauren, for being there for me even in my worst writer's block moments. Also, thanks so much for taking all my blunt critics and advise. :-)
ReplyDeleteOhhh yes!!! My friends and I have a group like that. We call ourselves the Inklings (you know, like CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, and Charles Williams?) We try to keep the membership low and only allow people at least one of us knows, else all we get is a bunch of teenager spam that's not profitable to writing. We write novels, short stories, fan fics, and are even sharpening our skills with an RPG that reads like a novel (suuuperr fun!)
