When I was in middle school, I created a character named Skylar Lynn Hoyt because my initials were SLH. I wrote several Skylar stories before she landed for good in what became my debut novel. If you could rename yourself, what would you pick?
a Rafflecopter giveaway
If I could rename my self, I would either be called Zodiac or Zatar.
ReplyDeleteSorry I meant Zatar and Zaytar.
DeleteOoh, cool.
DeleteProbably Kate, short for Katherine.
ReplyDeleteI love the name Kate. Cute and classic.
DeleteNeat! I did not know that before!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what I'd name myself. I really like the name I have now :) I've always liked Kal or Kallie since KAL are my initials.
You have a very cool name. I actually saw it recommended on a baby's name list and thought of you!
DeleteThanks! That is so neat you would remember my name! I guess it does stand out ;).
DeleteI can't think of naming myself anything other than my name. I mean, Michaella- Who is like God (?) I'm an author, just like God is the author of creation. The name meaning fits. But if I had to rename myself I would go by Birdie.
ReplyDeleteI agree, you have a great name :)
DeleteI would probably remand myself after one of my favorite characters:)
ReplyDeleteThat'd be fun!
DeleteI don't know what I would choose. I think my name fits me:) When I was a kid I used to want to be called Anna or Terry.
ReplyDeleteAnna is one of my all-time favorites. I'm saving it for a special character :)
DeleteNever thought about that before. It's really hard to picture yourself with another name!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Rin, short for Rinna? It's unique, but not too out there. Plus, it's the name of one the characters in a book I love.
Really really really hoping I win. I have adored the Ellie Sweet series and really want to start on the Skylar Hoyt books.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Ally @ The Scribbling Sprite
Oh, you're so sweet! I'm glad you liked them.
DeleteRin is very cute! I know a 2-year-old named Wren, and I think it's darling.
My dad wanted to name me Zelda and I would have liked that better then Sarah because it is not as common.
ReplyDeleteSarah Zakowski
Reminds me of Zelda Fitzgerald :)
DeleteMy middle name is Hope, and I've always liked that name. In fact I've used it in two different stories now. But I also like the name Lily or Lillian.
ReplyDeleteHope is a precious name. I love Lillian too, though. That'd be hard to choose!
DeleteI always wanted to be Kate. But I really start to like some of my random fantasy names like Averella and Shaylinn.
ReplyDeleteOoh! Those names are amazing!
DeleteSomebody else said Kate too. I've always loved that name.
DeleteI love my first name, but if I could change my middle name I would add an E to my Ann. Anne with an E looks so much more distinguished. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I like Cordelia better. ;)
DeleteEver since I read the Anne books, I like to tell people my name is Ally with a Y. A-L-L-I-E looks dreadful, don't you think? :)
Lol, Ally! We must be Kindred Spirits for I think Cordelia is a lovely name, too. ;)
DeleteKindred Spirits are not so scarce as I used to think!
DeleteIf I could rename myself . . . oh, my. I might pick something Elvish- Alassë or Lorawen, most likely- or something like Aleta or Ariana, both of which have been names for author-insert charries in my stories. (Though Ariana became quite a bit more than an author-insert, much to my surprise! Now she has arguments with my new author-insert-character.) I've also always liked the name Gwenne . . .
ReplyDeleteThough I might just pick something a bit more ordinary and rename myself Katelyn, after the MC of my current WIP (another based-on-myself character).
Katelyn is very cute, but I also like your more unique options :)
DeleteWow, that is a hard question. I really like my name as it is, but if I could change it to something different, it would probably be something unique. Maybe Lily Nymphadora...or maybe something Lord of the Ringish, like an elfish name. :)
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to rename yourself, I think you should definitely go big :)
DeleteHmm, I don't know... When I was younger I always loved the name Irene the best. So maybe that... Regardless, I'd probably go with something either Celtic or Elvish. ;)
ReplyDeleteA lot of Elvish people right in a row, here! How funny!
DeleteHonestly, if I could rename myself, I'd probably just stick with Jennifer... but I would change my middle name to something other than Lynn. I have never liked that name :/ And, I would probably change my nickname "Jenni" and spell it "Jennie" because I've always thought that was prettier ^.^
ReplyDeleteMy middle name is Leigh, and I went through a phase of wanting to change it to something more unique :)
DeleteIf I could rename myself, I would probably go with a first name of 'Artemis'. I've always loved the Greek goddess by that name, and how she stood apart from the other Greek gods and goddesses and made her own way. her strength, and ability to stand up to men fearlessly (and best them!) has kinda always been a quality I admire in the mythical woman.
ReplyDeleteso if I renamed myself, Artemis would be my namesake. :)
Wow, you even have reasoning behind yours! Nice, Ashley.
Deleteits actually something I've thought about deeply and frequently, and I've even debated using it as my pen name, perhaps. :)
DeleteI would rename myself Guinevere if I could because that has always been my favorite name and it just feels so beautiful and Princessey
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful name!
DeleteIf I could rename my self, it would probably be my nickname "Bunny". I mean everyone already calls me by that so why not make it official.
ReplyDeleteBunny Bella Barraza I like the sound to that. 😊 Great Idea!!!
One of the moms up at my daughter's school is named Bunny! And she's married to a "Van." We're thinking they might be the only "Bunny and Van" in the world :)
DeleteI've always disliked how popular my name is. It's a pretty name, but I'd like something a little more creative and much less popular. (sorry, Mum) I think something like Athena or Ellowyn. They're both beautiful and the first one represents strength because it's the name of the goddess of war and wisdom and the second one means elm tree.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful names. I saw Elizabeth was #10 on the baby name list last year - it's a good thing there are lots of nickname choices!
DeleteI pretty much like my name except for my last name. I want to eventually get it changed from Tucker to Howell. I use Howell as my writing name.
ReplyDeleteI hated my last name growing up. I was very happy to change it when I married :)
DeleteIf I could rename myself, I would probably choose Hunter. It's my great grandfathers name and what my mother initially wanted to name me. Ever since she told me I've loved it.
ReplyDeleteThough something crazy would be great for the doubletakes - Marcellia or Mistletoe or something. :D
Hunter for a girl is super cute!
DeleteMy Papa's name is Dan, and recently I found out that my parents were going to name me Danny if I was boy. After him. It's not a common girl's name, but I think they still should have.
DeleteIf I could rename myself, I would pick Josephine and go by Jo, like in Little Women. I've always loved that name and that character. =)
ReplyDeleteThat's one of my favorite books! I love Jo. Josephine's a pretty name, too. :)
DeleteJo would be an awesome namesake. My mother is named Beth because of Little Women :)
DeleteThat's so cool! I was thinking of using it as a baby name, if I have a daughter someday.
DeleteThanks, Ally! Little Women is definitely one of my favorite books and movies. It's been way too long since I read or watched it.
That's my middle name! ;)
DeleteThese giveaways are awesome :)
ReplyDeleteRename myself, wow that would be hard. Probably something like Ember, but then again, that would be really weird in this culture. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love Ember. Very cute!
DeleteThat's my middle name, so it's not too weird! :)
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably rename myself Lessien, which is my African name, Dekunte in Elvish. :)
ReplyDelete-Ryebrynn
Very cool!
DeleteHmm...Emerson at the moment, probably. :3 When I was younger it probably would've been Jessica or Anslee. I used to love those names. Alllllll my characters were named one or the other.
ReplyDeleteYes! You can see my phases of favorite names in my childhood stories :)
DeleteI don't know how well it would suit me but I really like the name Aria. My parents almost named me Sarah before they settled on Anna. My female main characters always have A names like me. I didn't start out doing it on purpose but now it's kind of become my thing.
ReplyDeleteAria is beautiful, but Anna is one of my favorites :)
DeleteIf I could rename myself... Jessamine Alexa is a lovely name. Something unique and beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteThat has a beautiful rhythm to it!
DeleteI wouldn't rename myself, but I have come up with a pen name I might use: Jean Spurrier.
ReplyDeleteI'd name myself Lillian so I could go by Lily. Or Elizabeth, so I could go by Liz, but Elizabeth is kind of common and I'd like an unusual name. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't mind my name at all but if I had to give myself a new name it would be one i made up so that no one else had one the same.
ReplyDeleteHmm. Abrielle is my pen name, and I chose it because it means God is strength, but for like a real-this-is-now-what-you-are-called-for-the-rest-of-your-life name I think I would choose Scarlett Noelle. I'm not sure why, but I really like it together. :) lol
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the giveaway!!! :D
I am not sure... Probably "Hermione" though ;)
ReplyDeleteIf I could rename myself, I would probably choose Lillian. =)
ReplyDeleteI like both Lydia and Nadia.
ReplyDeleteI disliked my name growing up and but I've come to love it. If I were to change my name, I might change my middle name to Tinuviel. But then I would have to think of new first and last names to match. ;)
ReplyDeleteOoh, that's a tough one! Funnily enough, I've always loved the name Skye, or Skylar. I can't see myself as a Skye, but I love the name, so I'd probably name myself that :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks again for doing these giveaways! I've been wanting to read the Ellie Sweet series
ReplyDeleteI've always loved my name, but when I mix Lily and Ember (my middle name) I get Emberly, and I think that's really pretty.
ReplyDeleteThaaaaat is a difficult question... Well, my middle name is Faith, so I might make that my first name. I don't know about the middle and last names. Maybe Faith Elisabeth Lowell. It sounds nice and like it would fit an author, but it's simple, not too fancy. I would feel awkward with a fancy name, because it really wouldn't fit my personality.
ReplyDeleteI would rename myself "Anne Sofi Ostvedt" because she is my hero! She was second in command of the Norwegian Resistance against Germany during WW2!!! She dressed as a guy for the war because the Gestapo was looking for her! She hid Jews
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool! :)
DeleteI can remember wanting to change my name to Aspen Smith when I was in middle school, and Shadow... Not anymore. I actually like my name the way it is, but those have been some past contestants. :)
ReplyDeleteAlways loved the names : Skye or Fiona-- But neither one would suit me. I probably look more like a Shirley, Mabel or Kathy! People on more than one occasion have called me Kathy so maybe I could be a Katherine.
ReplyDeleteI love musical sounding names, names that just sound lovely as they roll off the tongue. Maybe something Celtic, or Gaelic, or Sindarin. I do really like the name of one of my current protagonists, Annowre. But I'd have to give it a lot of thought to the sound and meaning before choosing, though.
ReplyDeleteI would just change the spelling of my name, I think. >_< No one can EVER spell my name right. So I sometimes wish I was Cate or Kate instead. It was nearly named Kate Lynn, and I do wish my parents had stuck with that. lol I'd probably have gone by Lynn, instead. xD
ReplyDeleteI really like the name Lily. I might rename myself that if I could.
ReplyDeleteI love the name Cassandra so I'd probably rename myself that, although I don't look like a Cassandra at all. xD
ReplyDeleteI actually really like my name, even though people always call me Leanne (not that I have anything against that name, it's just not mine :)) I guess if I changed it though, I'd probably change it to Meredith, which is actually my first name. I never have been able to figure out why my parents didn't just call me by my first name, or at least make Leanna my first name, to begin with.
