If you've had the pleasure of hanging out with Jill for any amount of time, you know that she has a servant's heart. That it's very hard for her to say no to people because helping others is the way she expresses love. She's quick to encourage others, she never builds herself up, and she gives freely from what she has.
And since she didn't build a "love on Jill Williamson day" into the schedule, clearly one needed to happen.
1. Visit Jill's awesome website. When you're there, a window will come up asking if you want to sign up fro Jill's newsletter, but if it doesn't, you can sign up here. Jill's newsletter is great, plus you get a free story. Score!
2. Visit Jill's Amazon Author page and click "follow" right beneath her lovely author photo. If you've read her books but haven't reviewed them, that's an awesome way to help out an author. If you're like me and you dread writing book reviews, give yourself permission to write something short and sweet. Or just take the time to mark some of the positive reviews as "helpful" so that they get sent up to the top.
3. Head over to Jill's Goodreads page and add her books to your to-read list, if you haven't already. You can also become a fan of hers (it's right under her author photograph) and post reviews of her books. And there's no shame in just copy/pasting the same review you wrote for Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
4. Love on Jill via social media. You can "like" her on Facebook, follow her on Twitter, and follow her on Pinterest.
5. Want some other ideas? Request that your library carry Jill's books. Recommend her to a friend who like speculative fiction. Support her Kickstarter campaign for Robotales. You can also leave her an encouraging message in the comments below or send her an email.
I happen to have an extra copy of Captives sitting on my shelf. In the comments section, when you leave your kind words for Jill, you'll be automatically entered to win Captives. (For U.S. residents only due to the unfortunate fact that international shipping is quite expensive.) If you already have the book, be thinking about who else in your life will love it!

It was my first time going so I was super nervous, but you were so nice and easy to talk to, so thank you so much for that!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Megan! OYAN is amazing!

ReplyDeleteAlso, this is just a note to Stephanie. You don't have to enter me in the giveaway because I'm not quite allowed to give my address away. It's nothing personal, so I hope that doesn't sound mean. :P
By the way, I saw that in the most recent issue of Imagine magazine, you and Jill were interviewed! I was so excited when I saw that because that's the first magazine I was published in! Well, the only one, but I'm working on submitting to more magazines. :)
DeleteYou're welcome, Ana. Congrats on getting published in Imagine! That's awesome. I'd love to see how the article turned out. Can you scan it and email it to me or take digital pictures of the article? If not that's okay. Perhaps I can email the editor and ask her. Keep on submitting to magazines, Ana! You can do it!
DeleteNevermind, Ana. The editor is mailing me a copy!

DeleteA love on Mrs. Williamson day DEFINITELY needed to happen!
ReplyDeleteI don't even know how to begin. Your writing inspires me probably more than any other author, Mrs. Williamson. The Blood of Kings trilogy are some of my top favorite books, and all your other stories never cease to grip me from the beginning. The way you portray characters and emotions feels so real, I forget I'm even reading.
You give back SO much and I can't thank you enough for that. All your posts are helpful and encouraging, not to mention just plain fun. Really, there aren't enough words to thank you for all you do.
You're an absolutely amazing person, Mrs. Williamson. I'm so grateful to you!
*weeps* Christine, thank you for those lovely words. I'm thrilled to have inspired and encouraged you.
DeleteI have heard such great think about you, Jill! I have read a couple of your books and adore them :D I hope to re-read them all soon and write official reviews on my GoodReads account :D Do you have any work in progress at the moment?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sierra! I really appreciate that. I recently finished the first book in a new fantasy series, and I've been working on the next Spencer (Mission League) book. And next I'm going to write a short novel about Achan and Vrell. :-)
DeleteThank you for everything you do for us, Mrs. Williamson! Your posts are so helpful, and I love the "Blood of Kings" books and "StoryWorld First"!
ReplyDelete(Like Ana, I'm not really allowed to give my address, so I don't need to be entered in the giveaway either.)
Thanks, Miri! I'm glad you liked the books and have found help here on GTW! :-)
DeleteMs. Williamson, thank you so much for blogging here and writing what you do. I especially love Replication, and the Blood of Kings series is on my favorites list. Thank you! And I'm tired so this isn't as eloquent as I would hope....It's the thought that counts though, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Hannah. Thanks so much for your kind words! *hugs*
DeleteOf course we love Mrs. Williamson! Not only is she an amazing writer, she's an encourager too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ally! :-)
DeleteThanks for everything you've done, Mrs. Williamson. I've read Replication a few times from the library and am going to add it to my book collection (which is huge for me since I'm super stingy about the books I actually buy :)

Thank you, Alexa! Thanks for the kind words about The Safe Lands books. I'm tickled that anyone fangirls over my stories. :-)
DeleteJust to let you know, it was your books that got me back into the realm of christian speculative fiction after previous disappointments. Now, that's what I'm writing myself. My whole family read and enjoy your books. Thank you for inspiring, thank you for your worlds and characters, and above all, thank you for writing.
