Shannon here!
I have the glorious privilege of waving you through on the last day of our April WORD WAR! I've been following your comments and LOVE the dedication and crazy competitiveness of your battling keyboards.
You can't see me, but I'm ready for battle and cheering you on. Kind of like William Wallace.
So, you know. Get going or my face will freeze like this and aint nobody wanting that.
What it is: A word war is when you and another writer (or in this case, lots of other writers!) compete to see who can write the most words in a designated period of time.
This word war began on Monday and will end tonight, Friday. It's a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's never too late to join!
The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we do. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the weekend goes on!
Here's how you can connect with each other:
1. In the comments section of the blog. Something as simple as "Just wrote 1,000 words in the last hour!" is fine. Or you can challenge each other to word wars. There's strength in being able to encourage each other and in knowing that others are hard at work too.
2. On Twitter, using the hashtag #GTWwordwar or on the Go Teen Writers Facebook Group. (This is a closed group, so if you're not a member yet, apply to join and then shoot Stephanie an email so she can approve you pronto.)
Let's finish strong, friends!
I had a Brilliant Burst of Inspiration last night in the form of a bandit attach and an Author's smirk. So my total for the word war so far is up to 7664 words. Still not amazing . . . but not as terrible as it would've been either.
ReplyDeleteGREAT JOB!
DeleteIt's been soo much fun this week! The people are awesome and I actually got some considerable work done on my story, from which I'd been taking a rather unplanned break due to drained creative juices.
ReplyDeleteOne more day! Y'all are doing great--keep it up!!
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteWord wars have really motivated me this week, and I've managed to furiously write 3,519 words. My word count isn't amazing, but I am very impressed myself, having been swamped with school work this week. I'm at one of the points in my WIP when I've done a previously long planned scene and now I'm in the aftermath with no new scene plan. :) I'm sure some inspiration will hit me soon!
ReplyDeleteYou got it, girl!
DeleteThanks for warring with me guys! I only warred yesterday, but I got 1995 words in, so I couldn't be happier!!! :D
ReplyDeleteAnd keep up the good work everyone, you all were amazing.
Deborah
GOOD JOB!
DeleteEveryone is doing awesome! :D And it's our last day of word warring (kind of sad :)), so I'm hoping to make the most of it! :) The word wars have definitely helped and pushed me closer to my goal for Camp NaNo; I was able to get over 1K in yesterday and over 7K since Monday. Thank you all so much for hosting this! :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to warring today! :D
Love the enthusiasm!
DeleteThese word wars was have really kicked my writing slump out the door. Which is good because I'm really behind on Camp NaNo...
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing these. Can't wait to war with you guys (:
Yesssss!
DeleteAnyone around to word war?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI'm here if anyone wants to war with me! :)
ReplyDeleteAre you still here, Emily? I'm desperately in need of a Word War... Especially since this is the last day. o.o
DeleteI'm still here! :15 to :25?
DeleteYay! xD That works. :-)
DeleteMind if I join the next one?
Delete182 words. Last sentence: He looked up from the map he was studying, and a faint smile crossed his usually serious face.
DeleteNot at all, Jonathan. :-) Welcome!
DeleteHow did you do, Emily?
Alright, I got 448 words. Last sentence: "Would the old me have done that?"
DeleteWell done! :-) That's a nice last sentence.
DeleteShall we do another from :35 to :45?
DeleteCan I join your next one? I'll need a moment to get on my writing computer, sorry.
DeleteThank you! :)
DeleteThat time works for me! Glad you could join us Jonathan and CS! :)
Welcome, CS! :-)
DeleteI'll be joining you folk on your next word war.
Delete166 words. Last sentence: He was beginning to have an inkling of an idea.
DeleteI'm getting sloppy. :(
273. Last sentence: "They won't know until after it's done, anyway."
DeleteHello again, Faith!
Delete156 words for me, which means I've written over 1,000 today! Last full sentence: "[He] and I hastened to come here."
Yeah, welcome, CS!
DeleteI got 406 words this time. Last sentence: "Not when I've just come back to you."
DeleteCongratulations, CS!
DeleteThanks, Jonathan!
Delete...That's more than I've written all week put together. Ouch.
Wanna go again? :55 to :05?
DeleteHappens to all of us, CS C. I feel for you!
DeleteSure, bring it!
Delete:55 to :05 sounds great!
DeleteGood job, everyone. :-)
DeleteThat time sounds good.
I'm good with that!
DeleteOkie dokie, I got 354 words. Last sentence: He had been silent for a few minutes, staring off into the horizon as the sun rose.
DeleteExactly 290. Last sentence: "You were right."
Delete167 words this time. Last sentence: "[He] has returned and will seek to conquer Nimera whether you want him to or not."
DeleteI got 596. Last sentence: “M—my lord, the rebels
DeleteGood job, Emily!
229, and probably more. A definite improvement. Last sentence: Climbing out, he lithely ran over to a stone column as grew his sword.
DeleteWell done, everyone!
DeleteYes, good job, all!
DeleteClimbing out, he lithely ran over to a stone column and drew his sword. Silly auto-correct. Also, silly me.
DeleteJonathan: Wow, his sword grows? What an awesome sword! xD *scolds autocorrect*
DeleteYes, "as grew his sword" didn't make all that much sense... :)
DeletexD Well done, everyone. :-)
DeleteAnother? :15 - 25?
YOU GUYS! I think i broke the 10k mark on my book yesterday! WOOT!
DeleteSounds good, Faith!
DeleteWell done, Jonathan! *throws confetti*
DeleteAwesome, Jonathan! I'm getting close to 30k now...
DeleteAlso, Faith, that time sounds good.
Good job, Jonathan! XD
DeleteI'm about 5,000 words behind on my Camp NaNoWriMo wordcount... I'm going to try and write 3,000 today before I do anything else on the computer. That's the most I've ever written on one day.
I like that time. Thanks, guys!
DeleteGood for you Jonathan! :D
DeleteI got 532. Last sentence: They would check there first, and his lock had already proved to be less than secure.
DeleteHow did you all do?
184 words. Last sentence: “I-I'll do it.”
DeleteWell done, Faith!
Delete214, roughly. Last sentence: The warrior gathered himself, scowling.
DeleteHm, only 134 for me. Ah, well. Last sentence (though not complete) was: "It is worthy to save the lives of so many, even at the price of--".
DeleteYeah, that's where it stopped. So interesting, right? :P
384 words. :) (Unfinished) last sentence: The next day dawned bright and clear, promising a clean slate and potential for
DeleteAt the price of...?
DeleteNow I'm curious. :-P
Well done, everyone!
Ooh, CS. I'm dying to know what the price is. xD
DeleteWell done, everyone!
DeleteAnother, from :35 to :45?
Sounds good. :-)
DeleteGreat job, all of you. I think I'll take a break for now. I've written plenty today... sort of.
DeleteOkay, CS. :-) Thanks for the Word Wars.
DeleteThanks for the wars too, Faith, and all of you!
DeleteI'm going to be off for now as well. I've hit a bit of a wall in my story and I need to work some things out in my head before I proceed. :) Hope to war again later though!
DeleteI missed about two minutes, but I got 353. Last sentence: Alvaro started to ask her about her expression, but the door opened again and Deidre stepped out.
Delete234. Last sentence: It had better be quick; otherwise, the Faerie would loose her nerve.
DeleteWell done, Faith!
Delete*waves the banner* I am here and ready, Athelas! :)
DeleteOkay, Emily. :-) Thanks for the Word Wars! I hope you get past that wall... I had one of those a while ago.
DeleteWelcome, Patience! :-)
DeleteShall we begin at :50 and go for ten minutes?
Patience: You found it before I could push "Publish Comment." xD *waves sword* *mounts horse* *grabs lance* On second thought... *drops everything* *grabs computer*
DeleteThat time sounds good, Faith!
You're going to type while on a horse, Thea? Sounds like a bad idea to me. :-P
Delete*bows to Faith* :)
DeleteSure! :)
Actually, I shall bow out of this one and join you on the next. *bows*
DeleteSorry guys, my laptop shut down suddenly and then it had to to a bunch of updates because of that system restore...and then it shut down again.
DeleteAnd again, and again, and again, and again.
I really need to get it fixed.
My brains are fried, anyway. I'm gonna do some unimportant stuff and turn in. It's night where I live :p. Well, morning now...4:30 in the morning. Woot. Good luck warring guys! It was fun writing with you. Again, good luck!
Ahh, did the sight of my own horse and lance dismay thee, Athelas? ;D But honestly, your last comment had me laughing so hard, I had a hard time writing at the beginning! ;D
Delete138 words, with a last sentence of: I gave a little laugh as the door closed.
How did you do, Faith? :)
266. Last sentence: No one was visible.
DeleteGood morning, Jonathan. :-) Thanks for the Word Wars, and sleep well.
I can;t imagine writing well at that time... It's six o'clock in the evening here.
Good job, Patience. :-)
DeleteGreat job, Faith! :D
DeleteSorry about all the laptop issues, Jonathan. Wow, four in the morning?! Yes, get some sleep. :)
Want to do another? Say, :15 to :25?
DeleteCould we do another for 15 minutes perhaps? :)
DeleteSure, that works. :-) :15 to :30?
DeleteYep, and goo! :D
DeleteActually... I have to drop out. I need to go take a shower, 'cause I'm going somewhere tomorrow.
DeleteThanks for the wars!
Totally understand, Faith. :) *bids you an affectionate farewell* Thank you for warring with me! :)
DeleteAnd I got 247, but I believe I warred alone. ;) My last complete sentence: Without a word, he turned and went back outside.
Well done! :-) Shalom!
Delete*scampers off*
Aw, thanks! Shalom! :)
DeleteYOU ALL ROCK!
DeleteAww, thank you, Shannon! :) We really appreciate you all hosting the word war. :D
DeleteThis is the last day of the Word War, writers. Let's make it epic. Way more epic than the whopping 29 comments and few word wars that are here now.
ReplyDeleteAMEN!!! You go, Athelas! Let's do it, guys - epic!! :D
DeleteAmen again.
DeleteYes. *nods* Let's get 300 comments. xD And lots of words.
DeleteMajor, crazy, cool, epic rocking going on right now.
DeleteI have to do a few things, and then I'll be on here shortly for some word wars. :) I've been sidetracked by Scrivener - I got a coupon for it with winning NaNo -- and I've been checking it all out. *sheepish grin* Yeah, I need to get those words in though for Camp NaNo! ;D I'll be ready to word war in a bit here. :)
ReplyDeleteI still haven't checked out Scrivener... One of these days, I'll actually use the coupon I acquire. xD When you are ready to war, I stand here waiting to challenge ye. *bows*
DeleteYes, it took me forever to as well! ;D That sounds great, Athelas! I shall be more than happy to meet thee on the battlefield. :)
DeleteK. M. Weiland had a webinar on Scrivener for free that I couldn't pass up on, and I fell in love while watching it. ;D
DeleteDo you like it so far? Excellent. Prepare thy sword, O Brave Warrior, for nary of these warriors who will war may be faint of heart.
DeleteWell, I just got my current document imported into it, and I've only done a little bit of messing around in it, but so far I like it! :) One thing I didn't like is that it must do word count differently than Word, because I have 500 words less in Scrivener. So . . . I'm finishing Camp NaNo with Word. ;) *sharpens my sword* I shall, fellow Warrior, for I know by experience that thou dost wage fierce war on this battlefield.
DeleteYou've got that right, Patience! Athelas is like a word ninja. ;D
DeleteAmazing how she does that! ;D
DeleteI'm ready to war! :)
DeleteHeh... heh... heh. *hides records of all terrible word wars*
DeleteWe're warring up there. *points above* :D
Are there any records? ;D
DeleteThere are painfully many records. :p
DeleteAww, I don't think so. :)
DeleteI think everyone has some terrible word wars. :-P I know I do.
DeleteMine are horrible!
DeleteThey are not. :-P
DeleteWell, I'm sure a few of them are, but a few of everyone's are. :-P You put out a good number of words, though.
Aww, thank you, Faith! :)
DeleteFor the record, I lost half my life to Scrivener. Maybe we'll have to get Jill to do a workshop on it or something. It baffles me.
DeleteOh dear. ;) I've heard it can be very confusing! Does Jill use Scrivener then?
DeleteI haven't had a lot of time to write this week, sadly, but in the spare moments that I could get in, i totaled up to somewhere around two thousand words. Because of this weeks schedule, thats pretty amazing for me. However, I still can't understand how, during NaNoWriMo, I had time to write 1.5K a day. I'm hoping to get a bit more in by tonight!
ReplyDeleteYou can do it! :D
DeleteGood luck, Anonymous. :-) You can come up and Word War if you like. We're warring on the long string up there.
DeleteGOOD JOB! 2k is PROGRESS and that's what we're hoping for here.
DeleteI'm still up for a word war if anyone else is!
ReplyDeleteI will join you, Liv. :)
ReplyDeleteHey, is anyone up for a WW?
ReplyDeleteHere, here! :D
DeleteOk what about :25 to :35?
DeleteSounds good. :)
DeleteOkay! I'll just start late! :P
DeleteTime!
Delete324 words, and here's my last sentence: "Mrs. Kennard and I already have so many things we want to make and send to the orphanage; that alone will keep me busy.”
DeleteHow did you all do? :)
306 words, last sentence: "She would comfort him with the fact that she didn't hate him, and was content to remain there, but [unfinished]"
DeleteGreat job, Patience! :)
DeleteAwesome, Natasha! :) And thanks! :)
Delete301, last sentence: "Keeping names in the family is a big thing here."
DeleteAwesome job, Patience!
:)
DeleteWhat about you, Liv? How did you do?
Beautiful job, Liv! :) *high fives to you both*
DeleteGreat job, Liv! :)
DeleteDo you two want to go again?
Sure! What about :45 to :55?
DeleteSounds great to me! :)
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteSure! Actually, I'm starting a minute or so late, so if you want to jump in on this one, go right ahead! :P
DeleteI'll join on the next one, guys. :) My siblings needed me and my internet is acting up.
DeleteTime!
Delete339 words, last sentence: "Sometimes she would even go and play with the children herself, letting them believe that she, too, was one of their imaginary friends."
DeleteOkay, Patience! :)
DeleteSo, how did you do, Liv? Did you join us, Mary?
Excellent job you all! :D
DeleteWhoops I meant to reply that:)
DeleteI got 321, with a last sentence of "I shook my head"
Thanks, Patience! :D
DeleteI have to go for now, but I should be back soon!
DeleteOkay, Liv! :)
DeleteSo, is anyone else up for a Word War?
I will, Natasha! :)
DeleteOkay, Patience! :) Do you want to start at the :12 and go for ten?
DeleteSure, sounds great to me! :)
DeleteOkay! :)
DeleteGO!
DeleteTime!
Delete447 words, last sentence: "She cared for that girl like she cared for one of her own children."
DeleteAlrighty, I got 120 words, and my last complete sentence is: "But that comment set things rolling in a horrible direction, and before we knew it, conflict had arisen."
DeleteHow did you do? :)
How did you do, Patience?
DeleteGreat job, Patience! :)
DeleteWow, great job! I was stuck and thinking way too much--I'm feeling my way through most of this section. ;) That's a sweet sentence!
DeleteThanks! :D And that's okay! Sometimes you just need to think about what you're doing. I found myself doing that a good bit during my rough draft. I'm not working on my rough draft at the moment, you see. I'm working on some background for my characters. :)
DeleteYou want to do another? :) This time for 15 minutes perhaps, beginning at the :30?
Delete*Nods.* Okay. :) It'll not take me that long to get my water. :)
DeleteYes, you're right. :) And yes, mine's a first draft. I feel like I'm finding my way through a thick forest, only able to see the first couple steps in front of me. :) Ooh, that sounds like fun! :) Did you get your drink of water? Ready for the war? :D
DeleteHaha, that's a good way to put working on a first draft! Are you a pantser, then? I tried to do outlining for mine, and I got a good bit done! And then I got past where I had been working on, and I wound up with more than a few surprises from my characters. :P I eventually couldn't take the lack of organization anymore, and wound up doing background work instead.
DeleteAnd, yes, I am ready. Go? A few seconds late? :P
Time!
Delete433 words, last sentence: "She ran through any number of plans in her head, and she knew then that she had to find the girl's parents in the Mindscape."
DeleteHow did you do?
DeleteHey, is this still going?
DeleteI thought it was for fifteen minutes! :)
DeleteIt most certainly is! :) Do you want to war?
DeleteSure. I'm not quite sure how to do this....
DeleteI got 380 words, and here's the last sentence: A headache began pulsing behind my eyes, and through the torrent of emotions, a gentle Whisper came: “Charity never faileth . . .”
DeleteGreat job, Natasha! :D You're doing awesome!
Hannah: We're done with that one. :) You're welcome to join!
It's easy. :) We set a time - let's say for ten minutes - and then whoever writes the most in that specific time period wins. :)
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThanks, Patience! :) I love your last sentence!!! :D You did really great on that last round! :D
DeleteAnd Word Warring is really simple. You set a certain amount of time (I generally prefer ten minutes), set a starting point, and write as many words as you possibly can in that amount of time.
And... I think that we had set fifteen minutes for that last one, didn't we, Patience? *Facepalms.* I'm so used to doing ten minutes! :P
I'm actually a plotter, Natasha, but I had some issues with my outline for this novel, and right now I'm pantsting it. That sounds great! I love K. M. Weiland's outlining method. :)
DeleteAw, thank you so much, Natasha! :D The writing was coming very easy there, thankfully. :) And yes, we had fifteen minutes for the last one, but it's alright! :) No problem! I just got some more words in. ;D
DeleteAh, I see. Was K. M. Weiland's outlining method the one where you plot backwards? That's the only one that's coming to mind. It sounds familiar.
DeleteWhat genre do you write, Natasha? :)
DeleteHaha, You're welcome, Patience! :) And I'm so glad that the writing is going better for you now! :)
DeleteBy the way, you wouldn't happen to have a blog, would you?
DeleteWell, the backwards method is only one of the steps, but I haven't done that one yet. :) She wrote Outlining Your Novel and Structuring Your Novel.
DeleteAh. I haven't read it. I haven't actually read /any/ books on writing. :P I mostly follow blogs, and gather what I can. :)
DeleteThank you, Natasha! :) I don't have a blog at the moment, but I'm going to have a website with a blog in a few months. :) I have a Googl+ page at the moment which I am treating like a blog in the meantime. :) What about you?
DeleteTotally understand! :) I have gleaned so much from GTW personally. :)
DeleteNope, no blog. Just my G+, which I've only just begun to use properly... *checks watch* ... about an hour ago. :P I might like to get a blog eventually, though. :) And I've followed your G+ page. I can't wait to see when you have your blog up! :)
DeleteAh, yes! I know what you're talking about. ;D I am trying to get mine up and looking decent too. :P Aww, thanks! And I will go follow yours as soon as I send this. :) And thank you! :) I will let you know! So, what genre do you write?
DeleteOh yeah, GTW is great! It's been really helpful, especially Jill's posts on worldbuilding! :) I also really like Anne Elisabeth Stengl's blog, "Tales of Goldstone Wood," and Athelas's blog, "Red Lettering." Those two have also been especially useful to me. :)
DeleteAw, thanks! I haven't posted anything yet, though. :) I write Christian fantasy. My allegories aren't /that/ strong, but I like to consider it Christian fantasy nonetheless. What about you?
DeleteI have heard a lot about Anne Elisabeth Stengl. :) Hmm, perhaps I should go find Athelas' blog? :) Ahh, I see! And I write Christian historical fiction. :)
DeleteI got 321, with a last sentence of "I shook my head"
ReplyDeleteHow did y'all do?
Great job, Liv! I posted mine in the comments above.
Delete
