Just two more days until the March challenge is over! How are my 300 for 30 writers doing? I'll be sending out an email soon to prompt you to tell me about your challenge experience.
This month, you can name your own writing challenge!
Some of you are doing Camp NaNoWriMo this month, so we thought it would be fun to pick something that allows you to participate in both the monthly challenge here and that very cool event.
Others of you are pre-writing for Jill's #wewritebooks and a know a number of you are working on edits. Whatever it is you're hoping to make progress on, we'd love to encourage you through it this month!
Here are a few ideas of what your monthly goal might look like:
1. To write the first three chapters and a detailed summary of my novel.
2. To edit five chapters a week.
3. To write 10,000 words a week.
4. To write the history and create the map of my storyworld.
5. To write 100 words a day.
Be as creative with your personal goal as you like but your goal must be for a personal piece of writing. Whatever genre you write is fine—non-fiction, fiction, screenplays—but no college essays, school papers, etc.
How to take part:
If you want to participate in the challenge, you need to fill out the form below. When the month is over, I'll ask you to send me an email telling me how the challenge went and what you worked on.
Those who sign up for the challenge AND send me the email at the end of the month will be put in a drawing for a $20 Amazon.com gift card!
This challenge is for writers of all ages in all countries. You'll be able to sign up until the end of April 1st and then the form will close.

My goal would be to work on my synopsis five days a week, at least. This'll be fun!
ReplyDeleteHow long do you think your synopsis will be, Jason?
DeleteReally long, probably up to five or six pages. I want to have a solid plot going into this. I'll also be writing as I work on the synopsis, with the prose always staying a little behind the synopsis. :)
DeleteWell, I completely flopped this months challenge (I'm pretty sure I only wrote 1,500 words). But at least I learned that when it comes to writing projects, I don't multitask. This month I was focusing my energy to prepare for camp NaNo and I never found the time for 300 for 30
ReplyDeleteHopefully April will go much better! I'm focusing on finishing my entire WIP (or at least 60K if it's a lot longer than I predicted). Good luck to everyone else finishing 300 for 30 and in April!
~K.A.C.
I don't multitask well either with writing stuff, so I totally get it!
DeleteSame.
DeleteOooh! This looks amazing - I've really loved the 300 for 30, but writing that much that quickly has showed me that I actually have very little clue where the plot's going, which I don't really like. And it turns out that if I'm going to have someone murdered, I need to know who murdered them at some point. . .
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say that my challenge is plotting out a three-act structure for my WIP, and writing some form of synopsis, even if it's just the bare bones, so I have a plot to work with.
Ha! I've had the same issue with books where I just keep throwing clues out there ... and then eventually I'm like, "Well, who DID commit this crime...?" Sounds like a great goal for April :)
Delete300 for 30 went pretty well...I missed two days because I was sick but otherwise I did fine. Not much WIP progress though--I mostly did unconnected scenes for a few current and future projects. I'm doing Camp with an entirely new project (one of my story ideas from the February challenge), so my goal is to write 40k for that and do a synopsis and outline for at least one other project.
ReplyDeleteFun! I can't wait to hear how it turns out :)
DeleteI did my best at the 300 for 30, but still missed several days. April is much more open for me, so I'll probably be doing some sort of a "certain number of words a day" for the personal challenge. Just haven't figured out what number I want to shoot for. :) Thanks for the post, Mrs. Morrill!
ReplyDeleteI think it's impressive if you only missed several days, Linea :)
DeleteYay, this looks awesome! 300 for 30 went well. I missed two days, but one of them was Easter. So I have a good excuse. :P This month I am in Camp Nano and my goal is to write 25,000 words which is about 800ish words a day. :D
ReplyDeleteEaster is a great excuse :)
DeleteSince I'm working on a webcomic rather than a traditional book, my goal would probably be to finish the character designs, backstories, etc. for my main cast.
ReplyDeleteHow cool! That seems like a really smart goal :)
DeleteI'm going to do a Camp NaNo Novel. Since I didn't really have a project, I forgot about the other challenge.
ReplyDeleteI've been doing the 300 for 30 as an editing challenge, but I haven't done that well. Out of 28 days so far, I've met my quota on 7 days . . . so basically, I've missed three-quarters of my days. :) It's half because I'm a busy college student and half because, well, I just don't like editing that much, but really have to do it.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, the April challenge will be better for me! Now I just have to think of a goal. . . .
Yay, a challenge I can do without interfering with my normal plans!
ReplyDeleteMy goal for April is to complete my Camp NaNoWrimo novella: 20K words of dark steampunk Rapunzel retelling. I also have two optional bonus goals, one pretty achievable, the other for if I'm ridiculously inspired/motivated. First bonus goal: edit three chapters by the end of the month. Second bonus goal (only if I complete my initial goal super early): write a second novella of 15K or better, also a dark-ish Rapunzel retelling.
Yay! Another monthly challenge! These are SO fun, Stephanie :).
ReplyDelete300 for 30 is going fairly well, though I've definitely missed a few days of writing. Sometimes things just get to busy :). But it's been a lot of fun!
So far I've managed to only miss one day in the 300 for 30 challenge. My April challenge is going to be rewriting the first three chapters of my novel... a lot has changed since I first wrote them, so now they hardly match up with everything else. A tall order, for me at least, but I hope to get it done because I've been putting it off.
ReplyDeleteI completely blew the 300 for 30...but I signed up for Camp NaNo, and my novel's already plotted, so I pretty much want to finish a teensy bit of worldbuilding and get those 50k. Is anyone else doing Camp NaNo?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, Mrs. Morrill, I haven't been getting emails about the monthly challenges even though I signed up to every one. Aren't we supposed to get an email when each one ends?
Good luck to everyone else on your challenges!
Wait...I just went back a few posts and realized I was the one supposed to be sending emails. Oops. That makes more sense. ;) I take it it's too late to send February's now...
DeleteWill you be sending out email reminders at the end of April?
ReplyDeleteThis was an awesome challenge that got me into the writing flow again! For the last five months I sort of worked on my novel every day...or wanted to. Lol. But now I'm back into it :)
ReplyDeleteI am going to write my second installment to m fantasy series. It is going to be about 60000 words. I also want to go in depth with my major characters' backstories and plot out the rest of my series in a synopsis. Can't wait!
