Hey all! Shannon here. Everyone had their doughnuts today? Friday is doughnut day around these parts.
Once you've got your doughnut in hand, settle back and click that PLAY button, because it is my absolute pleasure to bring you the second episode of Go Teen Writers LIVE!
If you were selected to ask a question for one of our episodes and you don't see your question featured this time, rest assured it's coming! We have several episodes going live over the next two weeks.
And remember, if you'd like to ask Stephanie, Jill and me a question, simply participate in the writing exercises as they become available, and use the Rafflecopter below each exercise to enter the drawing. We've been so impressed with your writing, friends. Thank you for choosing to write with us.
Thank you so much for this! Unfortunately it isn't doughnut day where I live, so I watched this munching popcorn instead. :-)
ReplyDeleteI teach a class in Friday mornings and it's too much work for me to get everyone ready AND make food, so we pick up doughnuts. Though popcorn sounds yummy.
DeleteIt's not doughnut day where I live either! Considering relocating back to California...
ReplyDeletePlease do!
DeleteGreat video. Thanks so much for creating it!
ReplyDeleteBoth were great questions. I found the second quite interesting as I had someone suggest I write New Adult, and I had no clue what that was, so I had to research it, of course.
From what I could gather, NA genre deals more with the character finding their careers, romances with marriage as a real possibility, living away from parental guidance, and financial independence. That's the intention from what I can tell, but it's still evolving.

Keep your eye on the NA market. It may continue to evolve.
DeleteThanks so much for answering my question! It's so awesome, thank you! I learned a lot and I think I'm going to be able to figure out my writing project now.
ReplyDeleteThank you again!

I'm so glad! Thank you for participating!
DeleteThe fist question really seemed to help me. The second one too. The fact that I don't know exactly what YA publishers want in their books kind of scares me. I'm not sure if my WIP is even YA. Eek.
ReplyDeleteNo reason to be scared, friend. Just write! Worry about the genre part later.
DeleteThank you, Mrs. Dittemore. :) I think I should start worrying during editing...
DeleteI sympathize with the genre struggle. I started writing YA Speculative Fiction before I knew what that was, and now I'm not sure what Spec Fic subgenre to fit my odd story into. It certainly makes the idea of pitching nerve wracking!
DeleteI know! I'm kind of freaking that maybe I'll send my manuscript, telling them that it's one genre, but it's really another. I mean, I don't want to sound unprofessional. I'd love to hear more about your odd story...lol.

DeleteThis was very helpful. It gave me a lot to think about. Thank you, ladies! I can't wait for further episodes.
ReplyDeleteReading the book titles behind y'all is also one of my favorite parts!
~Sarah R.
It's my favorite part too!
DeleteThanks! This was good!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for watching!
DeleteThanks so much for taking time to answer my question. I think for now I will just write with young adults in mind, because that's who I want it to be for right now. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteGood idea, friend! And you are so welcome. Thank you for writing with us!
