Good morning, friends! Shannon here.
Well, we did it! We made it to the very last day of our very last summer 2017 word war! I hope you're getting in tons and tons of words.
What's a word war?
How does it work?
You can also start mini word wars in the comments section of this blog, or on the Go Teen Writers Community Facebook group. (If you apply to join, leave me a comment on the blog so I can get you approved.)
The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we write. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the war goes on!
How long does it last?
This word war began Monday and will end TONIGHT! It's a
come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's never too late to
join, and you don't have to participate every day.
Write on, friends!
Will not be able to write for at least 6 hours : (
ReplyDeleteThat's okay! Just join whenever you're able!
DeleteYay! I didn't get to write for most of the week, but I'm super excited to get into it now. I'll be working on the final chapter of a short story I'm writing.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, I'd actually really appreciate some feedback on the first two chapters. You don't have to, of course, but it would help me a lot. You can find chapter two here (it has a link to chapter one): http://therustedinkblot.blogspot.com/2017/08/my-world-chapter-two-underground.html. I feel kinda bad asking for favors like this, but I really do need some feedback and I don't have any other place to get it. Thanks!
Hooray! Write on, Jason!
DeleteI read the first chapter and I'm going to definitely read the second. I love that! Your vocabulary is superb and you hooked me since the beginning. You are really talented Jason Starlight! At the end I was like: "No! Don't kill him, please!"
DeleteI love how you worded this: "They are dead, and they brought you from the dead, so that you will live, to someday return to death." —Oh my goodness. I love how you did these little phrases throughout the story.
That end sentence was such a cliffhanger.
"Follow me, human. I have something beautiful to show you."—What is this?! I'm dying to know what this means. lol
God Bless!
I've read your chapters! They are amazing! Good luck on future chapters!
DeleteHey, thanks! I'm so glad you liked it! And I thought it was terrible, lol.
DeleteYou're welcome! I really did like it. I'm about to read the second chapter. I'll tell you what I think. ;)
DeleteTerrible? Dude, you need to believe in yourself. You're talented!
I was reading the second chapter. I have to say, there were a bit of words that I did not approve of. It was very well written, but maybe you should think a bit about how you words some things.
DeleteGod Bless!
I agree with LHE, tho. There was a little too much cussing for my liking, but the writing is still wonderful. :D
DeleteAwesome chapters, they hooked me right in and now I must know what happens next! My biggest issue was the cursing, it was a bit much to me, but otherwise, good job. :)
DeleteI suppose that's fair. The cursing is mostly there for emotional emphasis, but I'll think if I can reword some of it. Thanks so much for reading!
DeleteYou're welcome! I hope I didn't discourage you or anything. :\ I understood the emotional part, though, but I know that there are a bunch of readers out there that don't like cursing in books....
DeleteJason: Yeah, I thought it was for emotion. I didn't mean anything about rewording grammar or anything because your vocabulary and the way you word sentences is superb. But, the swearing was a little much. Your work is amazing, but I know more people would love them even more if you could replace some of those words. You could use substitutes for them, and give the story emotion, but your work wouldn't have any cursing. It's just an idea.
DeleteAnyway, you are an astounding writer, and I know you'll go a long way. ;)
God Bless!
Thanks! I really appreciate it!
DeleteSo, I have a short story to write. Who wants to war?
ReplyDeleteI've made a decision. I'm going to stop writing my WIP for a while and just start really researching a certain subject. I want my novel to be published and people to know that my work is true and reliable. I don't want to accidentally slip up and not be a good source. So, to be positive that I know all my information before I start to write this WIP, I'm going to be studying the subject. I'm kind of disappointed that I decided not to write the last day, but I believe that my decision is the best for right now. I want to write this book to it's fullest and if that means taking a long break to study and research, then that's what I'll do. :)
ReplyDeleteI wrote 1,396 words last night!
All together my week's work is 5,792 words. I would have gotten more if I had thought of working in one of my older WIP's instead of working with a new one, but I'm happy with my work.
Thank you all for warring me when you did. I really appreciate it and hope you all reach your goals! God Bless! *Isaiah 53:4-6 *
Well, good luck with your research. Hopefully all goes well for you. Keep up the hard work. :D

Thank you! I feel like God wants me to write this and I know he'll give me the strength to do all this. I want to finish this and bring glory to him. I know that in all things, God works together for my good, for he loves em and I am called according to his purpose. I believe this is what he wants me to do and he'll work this out! I know he will. <3
DeleteI'm praying you'll find some inspiration gems amid your research, LHE. It's a shame you can't word war today; you're very encouraging and fun to war with. God bless!
DeleteThank you so much, Olivia, that means a lot! I hope I'm drowning in inspiration so when I decide that I'm done researching for a bit, I can go at my WIP with a fresh surge of energy. :D
DeleteYou're making me smile! Thank you for that. I'm glad I'm encouraging and fun to war with. You are as well, friend. :)
Hopefully, I'll be back to writing in time for another word war week. :)
God Bless you as well! <3
I stopped yesterday to do a fifty page edit, but hopefully I'll get in some wars today as a retype it!
ReplyDeleteI'll be working on my WIP for a while, I'll check in every so often in case anyone wants to war. Good luck on the last day everyone!
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading The Fellowship of the Ring, and I'm sad it's over. The best way to distract myself from longing for The Twin Towers is some therapeutic writing! Is anyone available to war with me? :30-:45?
ReplyDeleteI would love to! May I?
DeleteHey I may be available in a few hours . I'll let you know when exactly I will be avalable . I've been traveling all day cause we are going to Ohio to help my brother set up his dorm. ( His car does not fit much so we had to come along with him to Ohio to bring most of his stuff in our van.
DeleteAbsolutely, Madi! I would love some company. I'm working on getting my mind warmed up now, but I should be ready to start by :30.
DeleteYay! This is my first word war on GTW haha. Okay! Sounds awesome!
DeleteThat's great, Madi! Welcome!
DeleteI just finished with a word count of 367. Definitely not my best work, but at least it's on the page now. How did you do?
Thank you! :D
DeleteOoh, awesome! What writing project are you working on? I got 1,048... but man, the typos! 😄
1,048? What are you, Wonder Woman?! XD
DeleteI am working on the second draft of a Medieval Alternate History book. It's the second in what will be a six-book series called Rome Meets Roanoke. My male protagonist is trying to get back into archery after a knife-wound kept him down for a while. What are you working on?
LOL! I'm trying to work on my writing speed -- resulting in a top of typos, though. XD
DeleteOooh! That sounds so amazing! What's Alternate History? I think that may be the genre I've been looking for all along! :O I run a ministerial website reaching out to doll collectors and funding world missions so I'm working on writing out the parts to something called a photo story series. My characters are in the middle of pranking a poor helpless victim in an attempt to keep her from calling the police.
(Sorry I disappeared -- dinner ;) )
The typos are worth it, I'm sure, just to plow through that much more story.
DeleteAlternate history is when you tell a story based on a "What if?" about actual history. The backstory of my series is that Romans, the colony of Roanoke, and pirates were mythically sucked from the Atlantic to an island at different times in history. There is a shield of sorts keeping them hidden from the outside world, so the three cultures remain largely preserved as the centuries pass. My series takes place about a generation before God reveals the island.
If you want to learn more about the genre, you can start by searching this blog for "Speculative Fiction." That's where I first heard of it.
Wow, that sounds really interesting! I've never heard of a photo story series. Best of luck with it!
Definitely! Now I'm editing through what I've written today and it's really not hard at all as the typos are obvious -- definitely worth it.
DeleteOhh, woah! That sounds amazing! Thank you so much. I'll definitely search for that. Your story sounds epic!
And thank you! :D
Would anyone like to word war?
ReplyDeleteI'm not word warring, but I wanted to tell you I like your website. I didn't comment on there since I'm a little more cautious of where I put my email, but I wanted to tell you that your website is very nice.
DeleteI think its cool you get to do what you love. God bless you!
iviewrites.blogspot.com
Aww, thank you so much, Ivie! That means so much! Thank you for your kind words. :') Jesus is amazing!
DeleteYes He is!
DeleteGod bless and thank you for following me. That means a lot and I really appreciate it! <3
You're so welcome! I love your blog and what you stand for! <3
DeleteAww, thank you! That means a lot to me. What you stand for is wonderful, too! And its always nice to talk to a fellow Texan. :D
DeleteAlright, I'm up to 2,006 words so far today, anyone want to war?
ReplyDeleteAre you still on? I would love to!
DeleteI'm here, when would you want to go until?
DeleteWould :45 to the top of the hour work for you?
DeleteSounds good to me!
DeleteOkay! Yay!
DeleteI got 464 words. =)
ReplyDeleteYay! What writing project are you working on? I got 1,043... my poor writing document is so full of typos right now. XD
Delete1,043, that's incredible! How on Earth do you manage to type so fast?
DeleteMy current project is from the POV of two people working to steal back a priceless antique they managed to lose. I'm having a lot of fun with it. My favorite part from today is: “I don’t see why you have to come!” Isaac shouted at his sister.
“I don’t see why you have to exist!” she retorted.
Ah siblings, such fun... XD
What project are you working on?
I have no idea! I don't really let myself stop and fix typos, I guess... which results in quite a messy document after wars / sprints! XD
DeleteOhh, that's so awesome! And LOL! That is hilarious. XD
I'm working on writing out the parts for something called a photo story series for my doll collecting website. My characters are in the middle of a very one-sided prank battle... also such fun. XD
Anybody in for a final word war? It's gonna be a bit harder for me cause I can only use my phone
DeleteYOU GUYS! Look at all the progress you're making. So proud of you. Write on, warriors!
ReplyDeleteMy final count for the week is 9,182 words, 3,178 of those are from today. I'm satisfied with that, especially since I made hardly any progress the week before. =)
ReplyDeleteThat's great, Gwen! How exciting!
DeleteDidn't do as much as I wanted this today, only 300 words. But my final count for this week was 9,002. Pretty good overall:)
