Make Today Your Masterpiece

What do you want out of your day?

I've started asking myself that question a lot more. What do I want to have crossed off my list at the end of the day? Who do I want to have spent time with? What do I want to make progress on?

Writing is one of those things that can easily slip away if I don't protect it. Some days - an unexpected phone call, a health emergency, a friend in need - the writing has to take a back seat. But other days I guard it by asking myself, "What do I want to have done with my writing time today?"

With the time I have today, I want to write 1,000 words and respond to two of the writing questions waiting in my inbox. What about you?

  1. Today? I want to make today better than yesterday. I got up early for a reason and I intend to fulfill that reason well. (VBS) I had a long, rough day yesterday and towards the end of it my attitude kinda fell apart. I want to do better than that today.

Writing has gotten pushed aside (again) the past two weeks, and I'd like to change that. Maybe I'll go back to that "just a small bit a day" thing. Only trouble with that is, I feel like I have too many things I force myself to do daily, so I'm hesitant to add on another. Plus, I tend to go from chapter to chapter (at least in this story)--write a whole chapter in a day, wait time to figure out what comes next, write that whole chapter, etc. So I don't know. Anyway.

Sorry, I just got all deep and applied it to life... :)

    1. You never need to apologize for that! Hope your early morning helps to ward off trials later in the day, Amanda.

  3. Yes & amen to this. I leave for work in an hr-ish...but that's a good half hour to log some words before I need to get ready to go. :)

  4. Well, after chores and getting some errands done, I need to critique a few chapters of a story for someone. Maybe then I'll get some writing done? :)

  5. I have to baby sit and I'm just got home a few hours ago. I've decided to give myself a little break and edit a scene or two a day :) And hopefully start on a new book soon. This post was really helpful because I've been struggling on how long I should be writing and editing. :):)

  6. I need to stop daydreaming obsessively about publication and at least plot out a major scene I need to add. I've been avoiding it for days.
