It's nearly the end of our first day! When Roseanna White and I went on a writing retreat last spring, this was the time of day that our stomach's started growling and we had to step away from our stories for enough time to refuel.
Our discussion question for the evening meal is what is your main character's favorite food?

Her favourite food? Hrmmmmmm...I can't believe I didn't know this. I'll say pizza. She used to like pasta, but now she's absolutely sick of it, because of what happens to her during the course of the novel...
ReplyDeleteI really need to figure this out about my characters... Elric likes simple dishes, like fruit, and sandwiches. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not really sure what she would like, since I spent most of today creating her. I'm going to guess and say something sophisticated. Maybe a gouda strata, or Greek salad...

ReplyDeleteIt's 4:35 PM over here in WA State, and I've been officially part of the GTW Writing Retreat since about 1 PM my time. So far, I'm 2,307 words toward my goal of 10,000 this weekend, and just passed a scene I've been wanting to write for months! Yahoooooooooooooooooo! So excited :)
By the way, what happened to Friday's lunchtime post?

ReplyDeleteHayden's is easy. Though he has access to all kinds of fancy foods, what he likes best is a bowl of hot stew and fresh bread to go with it- not loaf bread, more like dinner roll type things.
Finished day 1 of the Go Teen Writers Writing Retreat! I have to say that if you had not hosted this, I would not have gotten this far for a very, very long time. Thank you! Here are my stats:

Words to go on Saturday and Sunday: 6,970
Whew! It was hard, but I did it! I have a higher word goal for tomorrow. Hopefully I can manage that one, too!

ReplyDeleteHmmm.... my characters don't really have much access to foods other than the basics provided. Too bad there's a controlling dictatorship.
ReplyDeleteFor my NaNo novel, my MC used to love pepperoni pizza, but now she loves really spicy food, like Indian curries.

ReplyDeleteMal's been drifting as long as she can remember, so she'll take whatever food she can get. That means a lot of snagged fruit and vegetables in passing, though, which is why she hates apples. Don't get me wrong, she'll eat them--she just won't be Little Miss Sunshine about it.
ReplyDeleteSammi really likes yellow jellybeans...only the yellow ones. But as far as real, meal food goes, her favourite is anything she can eat with chopsticks, particularly stir fried rice

ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought about my main character's favorite food until now, but as I started thinking through my story, it was easy to figure out: Pancakes. Sadie loves pancakes.

ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting question! Meira's favorite food is an apple tart with cheese and Cayden likes meat, red meat. One of my minor characters is more creative in that she likes anything orange or yellow. <D

My character Tyler's favorite food is gum. Don't tell him it doesn't count or he'll get mad ;) My character Eli loves to cook, so he likes anything he makes in his kitchen. I have more characters than that, but it would take a while to list them all with their favorite foods...:)
ReplyDeleteCosmo hasn't really had the luxury of picking out a favorite food, because all she can remember is eating cold, soggy leftovers and TV dinners. Her family is extremely poor, you see, after her dad left her mom. But if she could eat any food she wanted, she would love a hearty lasagna (like Garfield) and chocolate-covered strawberries. :D (Now I'm hungry)!
ReplyDeleteMy character Kiena's favorite food would have to be apples, or pretty much any kind of fresh fruit. She's on the road a lot so big meals aren't often an option.
ReplyDeleteHmm...let's see, Brandon eats of a lot of McDonalds and fast-food, but he really loves his grandma's chicken pot pie. Mmmmmm!
ReplyDeleteWell, my character is living in really hard times, so she doesn't get to eat her favorite food a lot, but I think it would be something that reminded her if be something fresh, something that reminded her of better times. Maybe fruit.

ReplyDeleteBut Keir (from a whole different novel) loves a Meat Pasty. He's very much a meat and potatoes man, and even then, he'll only eat potatoes if forced.
My MC's favourite food is pomegranate. But I haven't spoken to her for a while, so it might have changed. :D
