Jill here, checking in to see how your first day went. I read some great discussions on the email loop and in the comments here on the blog. I loved reading all of your goals for the weekend and seeing which books made you think. You guys are so much fun to be around. I learn a lot from you all.
What did you accomplish today? One of the things I did was prepare for tomorrow. I like to end every work day by making a short To Do list for the following day. That way, when I come to to computer the next morning, I know exactly what I'm going to be working on.
And tomorrow is our GTW Word War day, so I spent some time today preparing all my research and scenes for tomorrow so that, hopefully, I'll be able to dive right in to each word war and make the most of them. I have high hopes!
So let us know how you did today in the comments or on the email loop. And take a few minutes to think about what you're going to work on tomorrow. Keep in mind there will be several word wars tomorrow that you can participate in. I'll posts the times in tomorrow's breakfast post. I'm going to start outlining tomorrow. Tonight I'm trying to figure out what the climax is. And hoping that it will have a climax. And what my character's lie is. Actually, I know that, if nothing else. So many difficult questions.

DeleteA Word War is where you and another person (or more) set a period of time and then write until the timer dings, then you see who wrote more. It sounds so much fun! I haven't tried them yet, but i cant wait!

I wrote 1,700 words (a few hundred of those during a TV show, which is kinda big for me), started beta-reading a friend's story, started work on a character sketch for another writer friend... Big day. :) Also ran through some future editing in my head. (Haven't actually executed it yet, but I intend to.)
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be warring as much as possible tomorrow -- I love word wars! :D For verily, they do make my heart to sing and my fingers to fly in rapturous... er... flight! (Hoo boy -- it must be bedtime. lol)
In the middle of last night I realized I need to start my story over . . . again, which kind of changed my goals for the weekend. (I already wrote 17000 words and canned those, then another 20000, which I've now also canned). Today I finally straightened out the pacing and tension of the entire middle section. I radically changed some of the character backstories to better fit with the current plot, and I've adjusted the setting a significant amount.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for reaching 30k by the end of the weekend, but we'll see!
Love that L'Engle quote! And your idea for writing up tomorrow's to-do list at the end of each day. I'm definitely going to have to borrow that one.
ReplyDeleteI finished up two of the skits I had to write for next week, and I also worked some on my novella. Very successful day with everything going on. Yay! I've already done a few non-official word wars, so this should be fun! :)
ReplyDeleteKinda unrelated, but... I FINISHED! I finished my first draft for my novella! This is my first longer writing project, and the first one I'll actually show to others when it's done. *does happy dance and nearly breaks neck doing so*
ReplyDeleteThis retreat kind of came at a bad time for me =/ In the midst of my senior year, so I'm swamped during the time of main activity. And I'm really just busy in general, and have no current WIP. Sad, huh? Lol. My accomplishments for today? Did my Poetry, British Lit, American History, Early Church/Middle Ages History, wrote an essay, did banking, and yeah.... Wow, I'm lame. Will try to do writer stuff tomorrow lol.

DeleteI stayed up til 4am last night and got some actual writing in - nearly 570 words. I hope to be more involved today. Want to write some more (I'm so busy, that itself is a goal), and flesh out my HF idea maybe. And coffee. Coffee sounds good.

Finished up Friday with a final word count of 3,030, which was just where I wanted to be! Have a goal of 4,000 or above today, so hopefully I can get on that soon.
