Sign up for the Go Teen Writers Virtual Writing Retreat!

Today's we're opening up the Go Teen Writers Yahoo group, which is the email loop where much of the conference chatter will be taking place:

We will have lots of activity going on at the blog as well, so if you're unable to join the group list for some reason, you'll still be able to enter all the giveaways and participate in the "mealtime" discussions right here on the blog!

This isn't something where you have to be sitting at your computer all weekend long. You can participate as much or as little you want.

On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, we'll post discussion topics and giveaways at 6am, 12pm, and 6pm. We will also probably have a late night post where you can check in and say how the day went for you. But it's not something where you need to be present at your computer when those posts go live. The giveaways will only be open for the weekend, but the posts themselves are available at your convenience.

Want to share what you'll be working on during the retreat? Jill will be working on the third book of the Safe Lands trilogy, and I'll be brainstorming a new book idea I've had. How about you?

  3. Am I the only one who still has *no clue* what they want to do for the retreat? I keep getting better and better writing ideas! :/ I never thought I would make a meh face at having a ton of ideas, but I can't pick if something shinier keeps popping up!

    1. Isn't there a way for you to combine several of the ideas perhaps?

    2. Hmmm, now that I think of it, two of them could totally be combined...

    3. Maybe that could be a starting point then at least :)

  4. I'll have to ask my parents if I can join the group. I hope they say it's ok! Either way, I'll be checking out the blog as much as I can.

  5. I'm going to read up & practice on description as it is still one of my weaknesses (partly due to lack of vocab) and it is about time I'm going to do something about it

  6. I just requested permission to join the group! :)

This weekend, my focus is continuing my WIP. I'm thinking my word count goal is 500. Small, but hopefully I can accomplish it with a somewhat busy weekend. ;-)

  8. I'm just hoping to write whatever comes to me! That's a change for me, I always want to plan. I'm going to work on short stories for a while and I don't even know what I'm starting with, I think I'm going to look at my list of ideas and write whatever comes to mind, see if something blooms.

  9. I want to finish the read through and mark up of my novel. I'm in the middle of going back and revising the first novel I ever wrote and you can definitely tell I was twelve at the time. But at the same time, it's kind of my baby. I have about 20K to read through and I'm making notes on my iPod as I go.
    Can't wait for the retreat!

  10. I don't really have a word count estimate yet but I'm SO excited to chat to other writers. Going to be a bit interesting on timings though as I live in the UK :)

  12. I can't enter the Yahoo! group because I don't have a mobile phone, but I'll try to enter discussions on your blog :)

I'm planning on working toward finishing the first draft of my novel, The Bridge Between Heaven and Hell. My goal is 10,000 words, so I'm going to have to be literally writing all day long to make it! I'm writing by hand, which for me probably takes about twice as long as typing, so I won't be able to join in the discussion too much.

    Thanks for doing this!

    1. My husband said you might be able to make up a phone number. Both of us made our Yahoo accounts before they required those, so I don't know for sure, but you can give it a shot.

      Delete
    2. I think the mobile phone might be optional. I didn't enter anything, and I still got in :)

      Delete
    3. Thanks, Stephanie, but the problem is that I don't have the first idea what a mobile phone number looks like! Can anyone give me an idea? Or maybe I'll just Google it. . . .

Anonymous, thank you for your suggestion! However, I looked mobile phones up in Yahoo's help dictionary and it says they are now required. :P I wonder how you got in? Are you from a different country?

  13. Fun stuff! I'm excited :D My goal is to finish the first draft of my WIP, even if I have to lock myself in my room with a coffee pot and M&Ms stash. It will happen.

    1. Oh, coffee and M&Ms sound good....:) Sugar, caffeine and writing, what more could you want?
I am definitely planning on keeping up with the blog this weekend! I don't know what my goals are.... or how much time I actually will be spending here... it'll be fun either way. (especially with coffee and M&Ms, just saying.) :)

    2. Nice goal! Finishing is always lovely. And sad.

    3. Thanks, Anne-girl! I agree; it's a bittersweet feeling.

  14. I just requested to join. I'm so exited!!!!! I'm going to be either trying to edit a certain scene in my story, or brainstorming my new project.

  15. I'm really excited! My goal is 6400 words on my novel Queen Mother. No much I know but It's my birthday and I'm having a sweet Sixteen party and it's a sleep over so writing time will be scarce. I will be drinking Tea and hopefully getting to intersperse my writing with this awesome book I'm reading on world history.

  18. Signing up now! :D Can't wait!

Question though: You said that we don't have to be active for the whole thing. Will we still be able to view what was going on while we were away from the computer though? I'm not sure how much I'm going to be able to participate on Friday.

    Thanks!

  19. Dang it! I have debate camp all day Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I guess I will just have to wait until next time.

  20. Oh I'm so excited for this! I've signed up to join the group, and I've got my goal all ready. 9 chapters of editing notes, here we come. Can't wait for it Stephanie. Time differences between Central and my time will be interesting. But we'll all manag comfortably I think.

  21. I finally signed up! X.X Things seemed to keep going wrong, as they usually do when I try to sign up for something! XD

  22. Not signing up for the group because my computer Is A Fail, but I will definitely be participating! I'm hoping to get to the midpoint of my WiP--the wordcount goal is 70k, and I'm 20k in, but I'm thinking I'll have to cut/rearrange a lot in order to get that extra 15k, maybe even go back and rewrite entire scenes. I can do it, though, as long as I have a concrete goal. So this is me, concretifying my goal. Good luck to everyone! :D

  23. I've never used Yahoo! Groups before, so I'm a little nervous. Is it pretty simple to use? And do you know if the e-mails will get sent to Yahoo! or Gmail?

I'll be working on my WIP called, Cosmo. It's not completed yet, I only have 40,000 words so far, but it's coming along and I really like the story. :)

    1. Ack, my Yahoo! account is having problems. If you get a request from "sportakate" don't accept it, because I won't be able to see anything on there anyway. ;P But I'm happy to participate in any way I can aside from Yahoo! :D

    2. Yep, I see the request. So just ignore it? There'll be lots happening on the blog too.

    3. Yeah, you can go ahead and ignore it. :) I'll participate in all of the blog happenings!

  24. I'm a little confused... I want to take part, but I'm not quite sure how to sign up. Help, please? :-/

    1. Ah, okay -- I think I figured it out, :? I'm not sure what I'll be doing this weekend... Probably a combination of editing one novel and writing another book in the same series. (I'm afraid I'm in love with these characters -- even when I have other ideas, even when I chase after other stories and different genres, I always come back, and they're almost always willing to take me back. Almost always... I'm not sure what they've decided just now.)

    1. You need to have a Yahoo I.D. to join. Do you have one of those? If so, you should just be able to put in your Yahoo ID and password, and then I'll see the request to join.
