Groundhouse Coffee - Gardner, Kansas |
How I wish we could all meet at Groundhouse Coffee this morning and write together! (Except this place was built in 1904, and the electrical outlet situation is less than ideal, but since we're dreaming anyway...)
If you're just joining us on the word war (or if today's the first you've heard of it) here's a quick recap:
A word war is when you and another writer (or in this case, lots of other writers!) compete to see who can write the most in a designated period of time. This word war began yesterday will end on Monday. It's a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's not too late to join us!
The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we do. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the weekend goes on!
Here's how you can connect with each other:
1. In the comments section of the blog. Something as simple as "Just wrote 1,000 words in the last hour!" is fine. There's strength in being able to encourage each other and in knowing that others are hard at work too.
2. On Twitter, using the hashtag #GTW or on the Go Teen Writers Facebook Group. (This is a closed group, so if you're not a member yet, apply to join and then shoot me an email telling me so that I can get you approved pronto.)
Looking forward to a long day of writing with you!
I wrote about two hundred words today. =) I know that's not as fantastic as the rest of you (ya'll are AMAZING, ALL OF YOU) but I am packing and getting ready to board the plane for america in 10 days. =P But I hope to write maybe a couple words tomorrow. =) (8:03 over here in Papua ;) )
ReplyDeleteGOOD JOB EVERYONE, KEEP IT UP!!! =D

I'm having a blast with this. 1.3K yesterday; hoping to get at least that much again today.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good writing, everyone!
I wrote 3K yesterday, so I'm well on my way to my goal of 15K! But today's going to be busy, so the goal for today is just 2K. Getting more would be great, though. :) I'm really loving this word war!

1366 yesterday not much but I'm taking a slower approach with this book
ReplyDeleteHavent written as much myself yet as I hoped to, due to some unforeseen things, but I hope everyone is going better. Write on everyone!
ReplyDeleteHeh. Wrote 1,252 yesterday. I have a field trip later on so...
ReplyDelete*Sits at laptop and gets ready to churn out two thousand words in the next three hours*
Have fun!
DeleteHeh. Thanks.
DeleteGood luck in your writing!
Just hit 1k over here! Time for some breakfast :)
ReplyDelete*laughs* We may have trouble keeping up with you, Mrs. Morrill! :D
DeleteYesterday was my "break day," but I wrote 530 words in 20 minutes ::D
ReplyDelete~Rcubed~
http://randomrantsrcubed.blogspot.com
That's great! Hopefully you'll do even better today! :)
DeleteI only wrote a little over five hundred yesterday... But today should have a lot more writing time. Good job, everyone!
ReplyDeleteI wrote 2500 words yesterday, but I'm off to Boise on a Girl Scout trip for three days and likely won't write anything. Be back Sunday night to see how everyone did! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWould anyone be willing to do a fifteen minute word war within the next half hour?
ReplyDeleteI'm available for a fifteen minute word war. :) What time do you want to start?
DeleteHP
(Sorry for my delay in response. I had walked away from the computer.) Is five or ten minutes from now okay?
DeleteSounds good to me! :) Five minutes OK for you?
DeleteHP
That sounds great. :-) So at 11 after the hour?
DeleteYep. 11 after the hour then! Good luck!
DeleteHP
Okay. Thanks! Best wishes for the race!
DeleteI got 232 words. How did you do?
DeleteHP
I got 621. How did you do?
DeleteNow I see your comment. Good job!
DeleteWow you did great! That's awesome. :)
DeleteHP
Thanks. :)
DeleteHP
Thanks. ^-^ Are you doing Camp NaNoWriMo this month, or just writing normally?
DeleteI decided to join as well. I got 439 words. Nice job, both of you!
DeleteI'm just writing normally. I haven't done Camp NaNoWriMo before. How about you?
DeleteHP
Good job Katie and thanks!
DeleteHP
(Heh. Yay for deleted comments that I responded to! :P) Good job, Katie Erickson!
DeleteHis Princess: I'm doing Camp NaNoWriMo this year. It's a lot of fun. Have you ever done NaNoWriMo?
No I haven't. To tell the truth I'm a little intimidated by it. I'm not sure I could write 2,000 words a day.
DeleteHave you ever done NaNoWriMo?
HP
It's a lot. *nods* But it's really awesome, especially if you get to do it with other people. The Word Warring makes it a lot of fun, and you're basically immersed in your novel for thirty days. It's insane, but a lot of fun. I've done it three times, and this is my second time for Camp. I didn't succeed last year for Camp NaNoWriMo, but I've managed all the other times I've done it.
DeleteOh, I just realized, 50,000 words isn't required for Camp NaNoWriMo--you could make it less if you wanted to participate, but not do so many words in one day.
That might be fun! I might just do NaNoWriMo after all. What genre of book are you writing?
DeleteHP
Hello, everyone! Looks like you all have a good start to your writing day! :) Does anyone want to do another fifteen-minute word war with me?
DeleteHi Bluebelle! I'll do a fifteen minute word war with you. :)
DeleteHP
Awesome! Shall we start at 10 minutes till the hour?
DeleteBetter make that 9 minutes till the hour. :)
DeleteHP
His Princess: NaNoWriMo (as in, within November) has to have 50,000 words, but Camp, which is in April and July, you can pick your word count. It's insane some days, but it's fun. Right now, I'm doing a Science Fiction/Space novel... Which is very unusual for me, as it's the first time I've done something in that genre. I usually do Fantasy. What about you?
DeleteGood luck with your word war.... I'd love to do another one after you've finished.
DeleteI got 247 words. I'm doing so well today. How about you?
DeleteHP
431 words! :)
DeleteHello, Katie! How are you today? I wish I could do another one, but it will have to wait until later. I'm going to be busy for several hours. :/
Great job, HP! 247 is nothing to be ashamed about! :)
DeleteAthelas Hale: OK. Cool! :) I write romance and mysteries. Right now I am working on a historical romance. :)
DeleteHP
Hi, Bluebelle!
DeleteNice to come in contact with you again today. :) I'm doing great, how about you? That's totally fine, I have some school I still need to finish up. (Homeschooled) I'll be open later this afternoon and this evening. I'll check up on here periodically.
Ooh, what era? I love historical romances!
DeleteThank you Bluebelle! You did good. :)
DeleteHP
Bluebelle: My novel is set in the time of the Yukon Gold Rush. :) I love romances too.
DeleteHP
I'm doing well, Katie. Love the weather outside and the progress on my book! :D Hopefully I'll be able to catch you later then!
DeleteThank you, HP! The Gold Rush should be fun! :)
OK ya'll. I have some things that need to be done so maybe I'll see you later. :)
DeleteHP
I've got to go too. See you later!

DeleteOh, that's too bad! No offense, Katie, but I don't tell where I live when I'm the Internet. :) It's nothing personal. 9 inches of snow would definitely be an unpleasant surprise, though - you have my sympathy!
DeleteI understand :) jealous of your good weather regardless!
Delete*laughs* "The sun will come out tomorrow; you can bet your bottom dollar that, tomorrow..." It will get better eventually. :)
DeleteHaha. :) How has writing be going for you today?
DeleteAll right. I'm going to be gone for a few hours, and then I'm hoping to knuckle down and get a couple thousand words in. We'll see how it goes. :) How about you?
DeleteUp to 900 so far. It's not flowing as well as I'd like it too. I'm kinda stuck on the plot. *sigh* Hopefully some more word wars will help my writer's block later this afternoon/evening.
DeleteYeah, I understand completely! I started yesterday with a fight scene, which are difficult to write but do move quickly. Now I'm in a slower section. I'll keep persevering, though! Hey, 900 is pretty great!
DeleteThanks! "Just keep writing...Just keep writing..."
DeleteHis Princess: Ooh, that's neat. Historical seems like it would be a lot of research to do. How do you go about that? I have a story that's half-set in the early 1900's, and I've been avoiding it because of the massive amount of research involved.
DeleteAthelas Hale: Thanks. It is a lot of research and so far I haven't done enough as I should have (I should probably go back and do some more). I go onto google and type in things like "amount of supplies needed for the wagon train" and it might have a list of the required supplies people had to have for the wagon train. Also look for books talking about your time period. And then read them (I have books on the wagon train that I still need to read.) So google and books, thats how I do my research. You could try going to the library and see what they have for your era. :)
DeleteWhat is your book set in the early 1900s about?
HP
When I first started working on the book, I did get some books on the time period, but I decided to set it aside and work on it later. Do you enjoy the research you have to do for your books, or not so much?
DeleteAh... Well, it's sort of a twist on history. It's about a boy who everyone would recognize as an important person in history who is influenced by something out of the ordinary, and who makes different choices that lead to different things. I'm sorry for the vague explanation... This is my secret-project story.
Athelas Hale: No I don't really enjoy the research part but I guess there always has to be something you dislike. :) And as for the vague explanation of your book, that is perfectly fine. I haven't been exactly "descriptive" about my book either. :)
DeleteDo you enjoy research?
HP

DeleteHehe, thanks. I deleted it and posted it under the other comment thread... oops.
DeleteYesterday I only wrote 1,500 words. Today's goal: 4,000. I've written four words so far. I should probably go write....
ReplyDeleteYou can do it, Sierra!
DeleteY'all are doing awesome! Keep it up :)
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! I have 1576 words for yesterday and today combined. :)
ReplyDeleteGood job! Would you be up for a five or ten minute word war?
DeleteThanks! And sure! How about ten minutes? And when do you want to start?
DeleteI would like to do one!
DeleteTen minutes sounds good. :-) What about thirty six after the hour?
DeleteLet's do it!
DeleteSounds good!
Delete275! How did you do?
DeleteI got 451. Good job, Katie! How did you do, Liz?
DeleteI got 332.
DeleteWell done!
DeleteI finally feel like I'm starting to be productive this month.
Wow! You two are FAST! Nice job. You want to do another one?
DeleteThanks! Good job! Are you on NaNoWriMo?
DeleteSure! Fifteen minutes this time?
DeleteLiz: I'm on Camp NaNoWriMo. What about you?
Nope, just doing it for fun :) I plan to do OYAN (One year adventure novel) for school next year. Are you?
DeleteOh, I've heard a lot of good things about OYAN, though I've never done it. Have you done it before?
DeleteFifteen minutes sounds great. And I'm on the young writer's program.
DeleteAthelas, sounds good. When should we do it? This month I feel very productive also. I find myself cranking out 2,000 words most days :) Who knows how long that will last though.
DeleteOkay. When should we start?
DeleteI have not, it's going to be my first time. I'm excited to try it, though torn with what to write. Not sure if I should start a new one, or go over what I've gone with my current one and continue it. Not sure how far I'll get over the summer.
DeleteAt the hour mark?
DeleteAh, okay. I hope it goes well! What genre are you writing now?
DeleteLet's do it at the hour mark, then. *nods*
Fantasy! I love the freedom you have to create creatures and worlds. It's been very enjoyable for me. How about you?
Delete*Nods back*
I'm doing fantasy too. *Nods also*
DeleteNormally I write Fantasy, but right now I'm writing a Sci-fi/Space. I love Fantasy, but I watched a lot of Space things when I was little, so it's going to be fun writing this.
DeleteAh... I think I'm going to need to back out of this. I'm sorry... Our very new neighbors we haven't met yet just walked over, so I need to go out and meet them. I'll be back pretty soon, though. I'm sorry...
I'm need to go too, I'll be back on later!
DeleteAwesome! What's your story about, Liz?
DeleteI got 401 words. It went super smoothly this time, contrary to the last.
I'm back now. Sorry I had to go...
DeleteLiz, (for when you get back), what type of Fantasy is it?
Haha, okay.... *Sniff* (It's fine) I'll be around... writing. Let me know when you want to do another one. Have fun with the neighbors!
DeleteOkay. I can do another one now, I think.
DeleteHehe. Okay
DeleteHow long? I can't do a very long one, I think...
Delete10-15 minutes would be fine.
DeleteLet's do ten. Start at thirty five after the hour?
DeleteOh rats... My mom just asked me to fold laundry. That shouldn't take very long, but who knows if I will have to do anything after that. So... I'll have to bow out of this one, hopefully I can come back after that though.
DeleteOkay. That's fine... I was thinking I might have to again, since I think I'll be leaving my current position soon, and the internet isn't great while driving. :p
DeleteHehe. Okay. Hopefully I can catch you tonight again. See ya!
DeleteYep. And if not tonight, I'll probably be on again tomorrow. Bye!
DeleteSame with me :)

ReplyDeleteWow. Everyone is doing so well! I have 5,948 pages so far! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThat is in all the works I've done! Lol. I think we all wish we could do that much in two days.......
DeletePhew. Just hit 7k over here. Ready to go take a coffee break!
ReplyDeleteWow. The most I've ever done in a day is eight thousand, but that was only once. Do you usually write this much daily?
Delete7000?! Wow!
DeleteWow. I am absolutely amazed at how much y'all have written. You're making me feel lazy, LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh my gargoyles, you guys are so efficient! My excuse is that I attend public school (which means homework, ugh) and I usually wake up at 5 to cram at least 1,000 words in :D
ReplyDelete~Rcubed~
http://randomrantsrcubed.blogspot.com
Five?! You are very devoted. 1,000 words is better than none!
DeleteYou all are so awesome!!!!! Keep up the work!
ReplyDeleteJust did another 629!
Delete970 words in twenty-two minutes. It's an exciting chase scene :D
ReplyDeleteWOW. Nice job!
DeleteWould anybody like to have a word war for 20 or 30 minutes?
ReplyDeleteI can do one for fifteen minutes, if it starts, like, right now.
DeleteDo you want to do one for ten minutes now?
DeleteSure :)
DeleteSo i want to join!! What do od do??
ReplyDeleteJust write as much as you can for the next ten minutes, and then if you want to; you can post how many words you wrote. :)
DeleteSo in about six minutes....?
DeleteOH. I am so sorry! I just realized I have another commitment that I have to fulfill. So sorry. I can try tomorrow morning.
DeleteThat's fine, Petra!
DeleteWell, ya'll have been busy while I've been away! :D Is anyone up for a fifteen or twenty-minute word war?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to join!
DeleteI'll join! I haven't written at all today. :/
DeleteWhat time?
Katheline Hansen
I'll join! I haven't written at all today. :/
ReplyDeleteKatheline Hansen
Yikes, Katheline, I know how you feel! I haven't written much at all; I've been busy. All right, both of you, twenty minutes at 20 till?
DeleteSounds perfect!
DeleteSounds good to me!
DeleteKatheline Hansen
Awesome! :)
DeleteAlright, so I have to stop now, but I've gotten 87 words so far. XD
DeleteKatheline Hansen
Oh, too bad, Katheline! Keep writing when you can! :)
DeleteThis is me in slight shock - 683 words. :D I didn't realize I'd written that much.
291! Yay!
DeleteGreat job, Isabela! Isn't it satisfying to have made progress? :)
DeleteYes! Nice job on yours too, Bluebelle! Are you very far into your story yet?
DeleteThank you! I'm close to the end of my rough draft, actually. I'm so excited!
DeleteOh my gosh! That's awesome! What is it about?
DeleteThank you! It's about a princess who is forced to flee the palace when raiders invade. She finds herself aboard a pirate ship, but when she tries to run, assisted by one of the sailors, she's pursued by the pirates. But do they really want her? Or is it something her protector has?
Delete1579 words of my novella. :D
ReplyDelete~Rcubed~
http://randomrantsrcubed.blogspot.com
That's awesome! How far into it are you?
DeleteYou guys are doing so great! I'll try and sit down later today (as,in the 5th already). Hope to see some of you!
ReplyDeleteWho's up for a word war?
ReplyDeleteI'll join!
DeleteMy family is about to start devotion time. Would you still be up for it after that? (Sorry, I didn't know...)
DeleteSure! I should probably pause to do some dishes anyways :P
DeleteDone! Ready whenever you are.
DeleteWant to do one right now for twenty minutes?
DeleteYou okay with fifteen minutes instead?
DeleteSure!
DeleteSo.... when should we do it?
DeleteHow about 9:20?
DeleteLet's do it!
Delete402! How about you?
DeleteI got 401 which is a lot more than I normally get :)
DeleteOh my goodness! We were so close!
DeleteI know; great job!
DeleteI wrote 416 words last night and I finally made it into the house tonight to start writing some more.
ReplyDeleteKeep at it! :)
DeleteI ended up with a total of 3711 yesterday (Yay, that's a lot for me) and I did 2049 words today. Thank you word war, I'll be able to do more than my 1000 words a day goal :)
ReplyDeleteWOW! Amazing job!
DeleteNo problem :)
DeleteThat's awesome, Anna! You got more words than me. :D
DeleteYa'll want to do another one?
DeleteAnyone else ever wonder who made up the phrase 'word war'? Just curious...
ReplyDelete*laughs* Good question. Maybe it started with people taking turns coming up with sentences or something like that.
DeleteProbably Shakespeare. Dude came up with like half the English language! :P Just kidding. Interesting thought though. Who knows! (Really, who knows?! Lol)
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteHaha, maybe!
DeleteWho's ready for a word war?
ReplyDeleteI will.... But it will probably be a little after ten. I have to get ready for bed, and finish up a few quick things. I'd love to after then though! Let me know if you will be available.
DeleteI should still be here. :) Check in whenever you're ready.
DeleteI'd love to join :) I've never done this before haha.
DeleteHow long are y'all going for?
DeleteAwesome! I'd never done a word war before yesterday. :D They're a lot of fun, though, and great motivation. We could do a ten minute one before Katie gets back on. How does that sound?
DeleteI'll join too :)
DeleteOkay, I've gotta run for just a minute. Let's start at :02, all right?
DeleteThat works! Let's go!
DeleteReady!
DeleteI joined in for the last half. I managed to type out 188 words. How did all of you do?
Delete271. Good job, Katie! I had too many "think really hard for a moment" times.
DeleteThanks! Good job to you too! :)
DeleteYeah, that happens to me a lot. It wasn't going very smoothly earlier in the day, though now some action is happening, it always seems to go by quickly for me.
Great job everyone! I started a few minutes late, but got 109.
Delete319! That was really helpful. I thought less and wrote way more.
DeleteGood job you guys! My first word war was a success haha.
DeleteAwesome, Isabela! Yeah, I understand, Katie. I love dialogue, but it does take some thought. How did you do, Jamie?
DeleteYou want to do another one?
DeleteNice job, Isabela! It's so exciting that we have four people doing it! This is so awesome. I love word wars :)
DeleteWonderful, Jamie! You were really flying! I'd love to do another one. Can you wait about ten minutes?
DeleteI'll do another one, Katie :)
DeleteI can definitely wait!
