If you're just joining us on the word war (or if today's the first you've heard of it) here's a quick recap:
A word war is when you and another writer (or in this case, lots of other writers!) compete to see who can write the most words in a designated period of time.
This word war began yesterday and will end on Tuesday night. It's a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's not too late to join us!
The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we do. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the weekend goes on!
Here's how you can connect with each other:
1. In the comments section of the blog. Something as simple as "Just wrote 1,000 words in the last hour!" is fine. There's strength in being able to encourage each other and in knowing that others are hard at work too.
2. On Twitter, using the hashtag #GTWwordwar or on the Go Teen Writers Facebook Group. (This is a closed group, so if you're not a member yet, apply to join and then shoot Stephanie an email telling her so that she can get you approved pronto.)
Looking forward to a long day of writing with you!
I didn't even reach 500 words, looking for a bit more today! :)
ReplyDeleteSo, just wondering if anyone else is up and out there wanting to war?
I reached 1,058 words yesterday. I'll be on later this afternoon! Hope you can join us today!
ReplyDeleteI might have a little time here and there today, but I will get to writing this evening!
ReplyDeleteI was able to write 1519 words yesterday!! :-D I don't know how much I'll be able to write to day but I will try to write as much as possible. :D
ReplyDeleteAwesome job! I was able to get 1146 words.
DeleteGood job. That's so many words!
DeleteI came up with the beginning for my book today! Well, not really, I'm sure to change it again a thousand times, but here goes.
ReplyDeleteThey say executions are supposed to be nerve-wracking. They’re supposed to be down on your knees, begging for your life, terrified to die nerve-wracking.
But after being executed four times, it’s really become a cinch.
More of an annual thing really. Nothing like kicking off a new year with saying, “Look! The fearsome fourteen-year-old Perseus Storm is being hung again! Be this a warning to all unscrupulous miscreants on the wide country! Look out till next year, when we’ll hang him again!”
I really don’t see the point in executing an immortal.
I really like that! Good job! :)
DeleteOooo...mysterious. I love it!
DeleteThat is AWESOME! Great job, Anonymous! :D
DeleteWow, that hooked me right away! c:
DeleteIt's a funny coincidence, though, that my manuscript also has an execution scene it it! Haha.
Does anyone want to word war with Mary and me? :)
ReplyDeleteI can do one for ten minutes. Then, I have to get going on school :)
DeleteMary would like to. lol
DeleteYeah, I can't do more than ten minutes either.
DeleteLOL wanna go at :30?
DeleteSounds great to me.
DeleteThat works!
DeleteAwesome! :D
DeleteWant to put up our last sentences? It is a lot of fun!
DeleteI did 188
DeleteSure :)
Delete“Their chests. The flag.”
I was a little distracted by a quick phone call but still got 165 words. Last sentence: I wasn’t ready to go – to go into pure terror and abuse.
DeleteI did 269 and my last sentence was, 'Samantha laughed, her eyes lighting up.'
DeleteYou both did great! Interesting last sentence TW. lol
DeleteOoh, I love ya'll sentences! :) Great job you two! :D
DeleteNice job, everyone! I have to go, but will be back later on today!
DeleteI'm at 682, thanks to a busy day of school and a college fair. :P
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, Sarah! :D
DeleteI wrote 151 words yesterday :p not very good. But I have off school today, so hopefully I'll be able to write a lot! :D Would anyone like to Word War?
ReplyDeleteSure! How long?
DeleteYay! do you want to do :10 to :20? And do you want to do our last sentence?
DeleteYes to both questions! Are you the Emily I did word wars over Skype with Katie Grace?
Deletenope, that must've been a different Emily :) and okay!
DeleteSorry...GO!
DeleteI got 184, not great, but I am still getting into my story. Last sentence: I was next to be forced into the slave life.
Delete'Tis fine! :D I got 144 words. And my last sentence was:
Delete'"Oh, Roan..." I leaned forward and hugged him tightly.'
Not very interesting. I'm towards, well at, the end of the book. So there's no more action. And that's my favorite part, lol. Alas, I'll probably start another book full of action soon!
Nice job!
DeleteThanks! What's your book about, if you don't mind me asking?
DeleteSorry it took me so long, I had school. It is a Sci - Fi and two - sided. Castilla leads a normal life in the Galaxy of Anaramus Galamuni Galactica. But when she does some more exploring for a history report, she ends up on a spaceship which is about to launch. Castilla soon finds herself in a galaxy she has never heard of or seen. On this planet, she meets a girl, Galatea, who could help her change the history of the universe. Could the government be keeping people captive on this unknown galaxy? And what about the rumor that a man is creating portals to connect galaxies?
Delete"One does not attack another whose dagger is loose in its sheath." I think Bismarck once said that. My pen is loose in its lid... anyone dare wage?...
ReplyDeleteJust kidding, actually. My writing has not been at its best nowadays. Just managed 780 because it's a weekend. (Yes, Friday is a weekend here, instead of Sunday.) Happy writing--er, warring--everyone!
Yay words! You guys are awesome!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteSo... I got 167 last night, just enough for the 100 requirements... :P But then my characters kept me awake after I went to bed till 3a.m. telling me delicious scenes to happen later while I was trying to sleep. -_- Don't you love that? XD Darling charries stealing my sleep. Guess I should have stayed up and written. :D
Anyways hope to do some more writing today after I do the stuff I have to do... WRITE AWAY, Y'ALL!!! :)
Would anyone like to word war?
ReplyDeleteOh... why not! XD 10 minutes?
Deleteokay! I got distracted :P Want to do :00 to :10?
DeleteNo problem, just plotting over here. :) Sure thing, sounds good! :D
DeleteI got 195. How did you do, Emily? :)
DeleteI got 150 words. And I'm not sure if we're doing last sentences or not (I just realized I forgot to ask!), but my last sentence was:
Delete'The one Queen Miluiel and I had chosen was a deep crimson red, and it was beautiful. Itchy, but beautiful.'
:) Miluiel is actually my name in Tolkien's elvish XD
Awesome! Mine was mostly dialog so... that goes faster for me. :P Ooh yes, last sentences! That's cool, I like the contrast between itchy and beautiful. XD
DeleteOoh, Miluiel is really cool! I love Tolkien's evish languages. ^_^
Okay my last sentence: He drew a long, deep breath before slowly letting it out again while the stress and anger faded from his face to be replaced by the familiar blankness.
*elvish, not evish *facepalm*
DeleteThanks for word warring! ^_^ I'm trying to decide if I want to keep writing or if I should go be useful...
I'm at the end of my book, which means no action scenes. Those are usually easy for me to write. I'm so evil XD Even though I'm so mad at myself for killing one of my characters.....*sobs* WHY DID YOU HAVE TO BECOME SO AWESOME, PERCY?!
Delete*coughs* Anywho...
I'm attempting to learn elvish. I can speak a bit, and I was learning to write it but then I lost the sheet I was doing it on...
That sounds cool! Thank you for WWing!
Write. Always write. Who cares about being productive? XD
Aww, I know the feeling. But that's awesome you're nearing the end! :D
Delete:O NO SAY IT'S NOT SO POOR PERCY. ...Ahem. XD
Coolieo! I never learned to speak it much but I learned some of the words... I have like three elvish dictionary type books around about the languages. :P I used to love writing Tengwar in calligraphy, it was so fun! I haven't been as much of a Tolkien nut the last few years as I used to be though... Shameful, I know.
Heehee. True. XD But I have sooo much to do before NaNo. o.o
I wrote 700 and some more words yesterday, which is quite a lot on a 'normal' day. Go write on everyone!
ReplyDeletearendedewit.blogspot.com
Great job! I didn't write anything yesterday except a few words in my daily journal, so my normal is probably around 300 words.
DeleteYou guys are doing awesome! We have very limited internet access here, but we'll do our best to keep in touch.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mrs. Morrill! Have an awesome time on your writing retreat!
DeleteThank you!
DeleteI've been missing all the wars! Is there anyone available that I could WW with?
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I made it to 558 words yesterday :-D That's a lot for me right now because I've had a bad case of writers block since the second or third week of the 100-4-100.
DeleteI can ww!
DeleteOkay, :20 to :30
DeleteI got about 550 words yesterday. Not a great start, but I'm just warming up, you know.
ReplyDeleteGood job! I always need a warm up too.
Delete1,233 written yesterday. Hoping to do a lot more today!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! That's a lot of words to write in one day!
DeleteAnyone up for ww?
ReplyDeleteSure, I'm bored.
DeleteOkay, but, sorry, just realized I need to eat lunch. I will be back after though to do some WW!!!
DeleteMickayla, when you get back, I'd love to WW with you two!
DeleteOk, I'm back. Sorry to keep you waiting. Ten minutes?
DeleteCan I join you? I'll be writing a blog post, but I think that still counts, right? I haven't finished plotting my next WIP yet. When should we start?
DeleteOf course! What time?
DeleteHow about at :05 for 10 minutes?
DeleteDoes :05 work? Can we post our last sentences, also?
Delete:05 will work. Yep, I'll post my last sentence. I'm writing a NaNoPrepMo blog post, though, so it might sound different from a story.
DeleteThat is fine. For some reason my computer didn't show your last comment.
DeleteI got 424 words? How did you do? My last (two) sentences were " Have you ever tried to look for something to no avail, but then found it a few weeks later when you weren't looking for it? I Well, that's a lot like looking for an idea."
DeleteThat was so much fun...I haven't written like that in ages, I just couldn't stop typing :) I got 293. Last sentence: I didn’t care, for I was focused on one thing – getting away from the crowd.
DeleteGreat job! That's an intriguing last sentence. :)
DeleteDo you want to do one more? Then I have to go.
DeleteSorry, I don't think I can. I have free time right now at school, but I'll have to go in about five minutes. I might be on later tonight, though.
DeleteIt was nice word warring with you!
DeleteOk, I am looking forward to it!
DeleteWhen do you want to start and end?
DeleteHow about at :25 for 5 min?
DeleteHow about :27 - :37?
DeleteSure... my school ends at :37 but that sounds great
DeleteI'll join!
DeleteYay!
DeleteOne more minute... :)
DeleteI had to run a scan on my computer, sorry I'm late.
DeleteI was a bit distracted but was still able to write 208 words. My last sentence: All of us girls were required tasks of cleaning which occupied us all day, except for the rare events of a meal or a hint of sleep. This word war is really clearing up the writers' block I have had for about a month now. But, finally I am getting into some serious action in my story :)
DeleteSince I'm rewriting, my word count is not very notable I'm afraid. I got 138, and my last sentence was: "Don't leave us!"
DeleteNice! I gotta run...but I will be back in a few hours and will be ready for more word wars!!!
DeleteOf course, my dad would pick the ten minutes I was writing to check an update on our PC. So I wrote a grand total of... 47 words!! Woohoo. :P
DeleteWord war, anyone?
DeleteI'm here again. How long would you like to go for?
Delete:00 to :10?
DeleteAll righty. It's on!
Delete:-D
DeleteSo sorry school ended and I had to be picked up... ugh. But anyways, I wrote 384 words! Which, sadly, is the most I've written in a long time.
DeleteCan I join the above word war?
Delete185. I got distracted by a bad sentence order. *rolls eyes*
DeleteI wrote 353 words. I can't write for awhile, but around 4:00 I'll probably be able to war again. How did you guys do?
DeleteThe war just ended, but we can start a knew one. I wrote 146 words and my last sentence was: Shadow decided to revive Daniel and cast the spell without hesitation.
DeleteI was in the middle of my last sentence: I go over this
Delete(and then it was :10)
Should we do another one?
DeleteWe're setting up a ten minute one starting at the :17 below, if you want to join in. :)
DeleteAnyone want to ww? I'm in study at school so I only have 5-10 min...
ReplyDeleteYou may do one with me above :)
DeleteAll right, I'm here! Anyone up for a ww?
ReplyDelete(I'll be writing so I'll check back in a couple of minutes.)
You may join the one above if you want!
DeleteOkay!
DeleteRandom Question: I'm brainstorming a new book idea. I'm trying to decide names for characters right now. Does Athelas Athena (yes, I know it's alliterative) sound like a good name? Or any ideas for names?
ReplyDeleteI love it!
DeleteIt sounds good to me. I think the two names are just enough different that they sound good together.
Delete2nd question: Do you mean actual names or how to come up with names? I'll answer both. I have a sheet of lined paper with a list of names, sorted by first and last. I usually come up with names by looking at public listings or any sort of list. That way I can get a feel to how different first names sound with different last names.
Here's a couple of examples from my note sheets: (first) Autumn, Jennifer, Cody, Josh, and Crystal; (last) Mann, Gibson, Lewis, Glenn, and Sumner.
Hopefully, that helps a bit!
That is a very interesting name. (in a good way) I think it could be a bit of a tongue twister but I like it. :D
DeleteMickayla: Thanks!
DeleteLinea: Thanks! And thanks for your help! I usually don't have to much trouble coming up with first names, but then it's deciding which character it would go best with. And last names are horrid for me. Thanks again, Linea! :D
Mary: on your tongue twister comment- that would be fun for some scenes in the book :D
lol I know, while I was typing up my comment I was thinking about how funny some scenes could be with her name.
DeleteI just read this comment, then blinked and had to read it again with my brain saying, "Wait... Is that my name?" Yes, brain. Thank you for paying attention.
DeleteIf you want to name a character "Athelas" it might be good to remember that the word athelas is a created word by Tolkien. It's a name for one of the herbs that grow in Middle Earth.
Athelas: When I saw your name the other day, that's what I thought of, lol. If I do name her that, it might be wise to change the spelling.
DeleteMary: There's a world of possibilites.
If anyone would like me to tell them my idea, I can. That way you can tell me if it's horrible or if it actually might work XD
I'd like to hear about it!
DeleteOkay, Linea! I just decided on an idea today, and you're the first person I'm going to *attempt* to explain it to. I'm horrible at explaining stuff so you might not understand anything. And this might up being more like a short synopsis.
DeleteWhen Athelas Athena and her few friends are transported to ancient Greece, they meet a few teens that are supposedly sons and daughters of Greek gods. It is up to Athelas and her friends to tell them about the gospel of Christ and help them believe before it's too late. Which is harder than you would think- especially since Jesus hasn't come yet.
What do you think?
That's a really cool concept! :o But what do you mean by 'before it's too late'? Maybe you could make the stakes a little clearer?
DeleteTime travel is awesome. c:
Thanks! I'm still brainstorming. Thanks for your help!
DeleteYes, yes it is :D
That sounds good! I love the fact that it's a bit like Percy Jackson, but with Christian elements. Thanks for telling me about it!
DeleteI got 1357 words written yesterday and am just starting up writing for today... Is anyone around who would like to Word War?
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I can do one. Would you like to do 10 or 15 minutes?
DeleteThe comment below was supposed to be a reply :P
DeleteHi, Linea. :) *waves* Ten minutes? At the :17?
DeleteWorks for me!
Delete*returns wave* Okay!
DeleteI have to leave now. 166 words. Bye!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI got 414. Last sentence: He stopped just outside, looking around.
Delete199. Last sentence: But I still have to check out the fridge.
DeleteMickayla: Oh, okay. Good bye!
DeleteI joined in just in time! 131 words.
DeleteWell done, Linea! :)
DeleteI was wondering if you would, Jessica. :) Good job!
DeleteAthelas, how do you write so many words?
DeleteI've participated in NaNoWriMo every year since 2011, and done Camp NaNoWriMo three times since then... You get a lot of practice with fast writing when you do that. :p
DeleteI should try that... maybe. I have enough stories available to try, but I probably wouldn't succeed. I could do the junior NaNoWriMo, though.
DeleteYou definitely should! NaNoWriMo is awesome, especially if you have a couple of people to do it with. You can Word War with them and encourage each other, and help each other out of a problem if you come across one. I think you could probably make the 50,000, from what I've seen while Word Warring with you. :)
DeleteMaybe, but I get writers block at least once a month. :P
DeleteWell, that's what NaNo's for; to make it so that you have a goal to reach that will keep you from giving in to writers block.
DeleteWW?
Delete10 minutes at :43?
DeleteSure.
DeleteOkay. :)
Delete272. Last sentence: Then she looks up suddenly.
Delete122 words. I would have gotten more, but I kept adding letters to the ends of the words and fixing them.
DeleteThat happens to me a lot too. :)
DeleteAthelas, how'd you do?
DeleteI think she died... (just kidding)
Delete*revives* Yeah... Sorry I disappeared. I ended up not doing the Word War because I realized I had something else I needed to get done quickly.
DeleteI can! Great job also. I cannot believe I have already written 1056 words today...*jumps up and down*
ReplyDeleteWell done! :D That's quite a lot of words... How long have you been writing today?
DeleteMaybe an hour...probably the best time I have ever made. It is because I have gotten to a seen I have been planning in my head for months...literally! :)
DeleteAnyone feeling like word warring?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteHow does ten minutes sound, starting at :55?
DeleteI'll jump in, if that's okay!
DeleteWe never started, I think she left. :-\
DeleteI'll war... how long?
DeleteHow does 20 minutes sound?
DeleteWell, us three could always do one anyway if ya'all want...!
DeleteI'll do it. Starting at :07?
Deletecan we do it starting at :10? and 20 minutes sounds good
DeleteI'd love to jump in! 20 minutes sounds great to me. :)
Delete:10's great. Gives me more time to prepare. :)
DeleteSounds great! Sorry if I respond slowly or something, my computer keeps 'not responding' I am going to have to restart it in a min. :-|
DeleteTime to START!
Or responding out of turn so to speak. :10 sounds great.
Delete00:10 sounds good!
DeleteI responded to your comment on my question thingy about my book, Linea :)
DeleteIf y'all do another one after this... I'd love to join!
DeleteYa, me too.
DeleteI got 472.
DeleteEmily: Thanks for letting me know. I'll check it out right now.
512. I had a few too many reflective pauses... :D My last sentence was: She squints at the rest of the papers.
DeleteI got 511 words.
DeleteI wrote 476 words. How did you guys do?
DeleteGreat job, everyone! We were all pretty close. :)
DeleteRachelle, I had way to many of those too... :) my last sentence was boring - I kind of pat her back. :P
DeleteMy last sentence was: He grabbed the chopped onions and dumped them into a pot, hanging over the kitchen fire.
DeleteNot the most interesting sentence.... I am going to restart my computer now, I don't know if I will get back on a ww again or not.
That's great, y'all! I need a little break, so I'm heading out. Hopefully I'll be back tonight. :) Thanks for all the warring!
DeleteI only got 90 words because I had to redownload my writing app. Better luck next time, I guess. :P
DeleteMy last sentence: Not a porch light flickered outside; each of the houses along the street were dead to the world this early.
Anyone want a new ww?
DeleteI'll word war! ^_^
Delete:40 to :50 or :55? I don't feel up to a twenty minute war. :P
DeleteI hate it when that happens, Aleah! :(
DeleteI'll do another one, Jessica and Katie!
10 minutes sound fine to me.
DeleteHow about :55?
DeleteI'm good with ten minutes. At :40 works for me.
DeleteOkay. But you both want different times.
DeleteI can Word War. :)
DeleteWe're trying to figure out how long...
Delete*laughs* Okay, this is classic word war confusion. :D How about we start at :43? And is everyone good with ten minutes?
Delete:55
DeleteHaha, ten minutes is fine! c:
Delete*nods* :43 for ten minutes. :P
Delete
