It was so fun yesterday seeing everyone's progress in the comments section. We'd like to be responding more but, as Shan said yesterday, we have limited WiFi access. (There's a Starbucks in the lobby with free WiFi, so we come down here if we need to, say, publish a blog post.)
Here are a few snapshots from yesterday. This is the view from our hotel ... if you stand at just the right spot. Otherwise it's a parking lot and other hotels.
We started our day with a Starbucks run and then got to work:
After a few hours, we were desperate for some calories and went for breakfast-for-lunch at the local staple, Red Hut:
And here I am, rocking my Royals tee and the Rainbow Loom bracelet McKenna sent with me:
Jill had a killer day of over 6,000 words. Shan is in edits, but because she was working on adding some important scenes, she came out at 4,000 words for the day. I, however, went the opposite way in my edits and cut about 1,500 words as I reworked scenes.
We can't wait to see how your day goes!
If you're just joining us on the word war (or if today's the first you've heard of it) here's a quick recap:
A word war is when you and another writer (or in this case, lots of other writers!) compete to see who can write the most words in a designated period of time.
This word war began last Thursday and will end on Tuesday night. It's a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's not too late to join us!
The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we do. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the weekend goes on!
Here's how you can connect with each other:
1. In the comments section of the blog. Something as simple as "Just wrote 1,000 words in the last hour!" is fine. There's strength in being able to encourage each other and in knowing that others are hard at work too.
2. On Twitter, using the hashtag #GTWwordwar or on the Go Teen Writers Facebook Group. (This is a closed group, so if you're not a member yet, apply to join and then shoot me an email telling me so that I can get you approved pronto.)
Looking forward to a long day of writing with you!
You guys are doing awesome!! I didn't even make it to 400 :P But did have the privilege hearing Ken Ham and safely made it to Ohio. :) With being a bit more settled today, hope to make it to at least 1k ;)
ReplyDeleteYou can do it, TW!
DeleteI hope I'll get to write a lot today! If everything goes well, I'll finish my book today. And then I'll start working on another book idea that I'm going to do :)
ReplyDeleteYou can do it, Emily!!! :D
DeleteThank you, TW! :D
DeleteThat's awesome, Emily! :D *cheers*
DeleteGood morning, everyone! Final word count for yesterday: 1,339. I'll hopefully be on later this afternoon! (And the hotel view is gorgeous.)
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic, Linea! Keep up the good work!
DeleteSounds like you guys are doing great. :)
ReplyDeleteI wrote about 1K yesterday. Total of 1802 words. Not much compared to some of y'all, but for out-of-NaNo writing, it's pretty good.
It's great, Sarah!
DeleteWord count for yesterday: 1178. I am getting closer to the halfway point in my story (Yay!). Anyone up for a ww?
ReplyDeleteI can, but only for ten minutes
DeleteSounds great! How about :05 to :10?
DeleteI meant to :15 not :10.
DeleteJust five minutes? Works with me
DeleteOh ok :) No problem :)
DeleteIt works with me lol
Delete203 for me
Delete134, still getting my writing going for today. Thanks for waring with me!
DeleteGreat job! And definitely! :)
DeleteAnyone want to war?
ReplyDeleteI actually might be able to do another one... parents haven't told me to get off yet for breakfast... go for ten minutes again?
DeleteNever mind...
DeleteOkay!
DeleteI wrote a little over 1k in just brainstorming yesterday. Today, I might actually jump into my story. Who needs planning anyways?! (I will when I start to read this story over when I finish it :P)
ReplyDeleteThat's great, Katheline! :-D
DeleteThanks! :D
DeleteI'm trying to stop procrastinating because it felt so good to write 1k yesterday, but I'm coming up to a hard point in my story... I'm going to go eat breakfast and then it's ww time!
ReplyDeleteJust about to walk to the library for an afternoon of peaceful writing. Great job so far, everyone!
ReplyDeleteHaven't gotten on the computer at all this week until now, so I'm starting late. :/ But I shall do my best to make up for it by writing extra the rest of the WW! :D *runs off to write*
ReplyDelete*whispers* anyone want to war?
ReplyDeleteIf you're still here, I will war.
DeleteWOAH! has it already been 2 hours since I posted this?!?!?! That blog post took a lot longer than I thought!! Anyway, if YOU"RE still here, let's do it! ;D
DeleteI'm here!
DeleteWOOT! How long should we go for?
Delete:55 to :05?
Deletesure!
Delete197 for me. X)
DeleteI only got 65... because I finished the story! XD
DeleteAWESOMEEEEEE!!! :D
DeleteMy total yesterday: 1,755! That's the most I've ever written in one day, AND it has placed me in the epilogue of my story.
ReplyDeleteWould anyone like to word war?
ReplyDeleteYes! You and me and Jessica J, if she's willing, since we were going to war, ourselves. ;)
DeleteAnd I'm here too!
DeleteAHA!
DeleteI'll war!
DeleteJessica and me are warring :55 to :05, join us! and we can war again once Emily gets back?
DeleteI didn't see your comment until too late -_- I'll do one with you three when you and Jessica finish yours!
Delete:15 to :25 perhaps?
DeleteSure
DeleteCan I jump in?
DeleteI am so confused right now.... the site says it's 1-something, but my computer and clock say 2-something? WHAT TIME IS IT HELP!!
Deleteanyway, yes! hi! let's war! :D
The site is in central timezone, and if you're in the eastern timezone, it's 2:12 :)
DeleteOkay! I can do that :)
DeleteTHANK YOU TW!! X)
DeleteThe words aren't wanting to come (believe me they will after this word war is over *sighs*) so I'll go ahead and tell my total and my last sentence. I got a grand total of 71 words :/ My last sentence was:
Delete"You may kiss your bride."
My total was 174 :) Ooh, Emily.... a wedding I suppose? ;)
DeleteMy last sentence was:
And now Taylor?
Word count: 234. Last sentence: “Your room!” said the housekeeper.
DeleteAww, a wedding! How adorable! .....she should slap him in the face and run away screaming YOUR BREATH IS HORRIBLE DON'T YOU EVER BRUSH YOUR TEETH?! or.........maybe not. XD hahaha!!
DeleteI got 232 words! :D ugghhh I had to write a fight scene. And I'll have to write more later. -.- they're so haaarrd! *whines*
I just moved to a new story that I've been having trouble with, so I only got 106. My last sentence was: As she was led to them she wasn't stared at.
DeleteOh, and my last sentence was "Dazed, Rolf could only gasp for breath as the guards bound him and dragged him from the room."
DeleteGreat job! Yes, TW :) Between my two MC's. I have a coronation to write after that! And then it will all be over *sniffs*
DeleteGreat job! :D LOL, Rachel :)
DeleteKendra and Rachel, you two were SO close!
Ooh! :) Have fun!!!
Deletehaha, Rachel XD She actually did that to one of my characters...not the bad breath part, just the slap in the face :p I love writing fight scenes. It's scenes like wedding scenes and such I have trouble with XD
DeleteIs anyone up for another war?
DeleteBattle scenes are a pain in the neck Rachel. I hear you.
DeleteI'm up!
DeleteTW: *raises hand*
DeleteKendra: Maybe I'm just an oddball XD
@ Emily LOL well, a slap in the face usually makes for a great scene! And haha, well, I pretty much have trouble with ALL scenes, but at least this one was short. X)
DeleteThat makes me an oddball as well *cough cough*
Delete@ TW ME ME ME!!
Delete@ Kendra yes, but now I get to write a mock trial WITH MY VILLAIN YAY!! I love my villain. XD
I'll war.
Deleteten minutes at :40?
Delete@ TW sounds good to me! :D
DeleteYeah
DeleteRachel: It was a fun scene XD
DeleteTW: Yay, I'm not the only one!
TW again: Sound good!
@Emily I actually enjoy wedding scenes, and I had considered ending this book with one (and a coronation afterwards, coincidentally) but since the last book had ended with a wedding, I decided to just end this one with a proposal.
Delete@Rachel Fun!
@TW :40 sounds great to me!
Awesome, ya'll :D
Delete105. Sentence: You should be at home!”
Delete258 for me, awesome scene going on. lol
DeleteOh, and last sentence: “Look it doesn’t quite work like that.”
Delete220!
DeleteWordcount: 274 Last sentence: “Look, I don’t expect you to forgive me for our childhood just like that, but as your
DeleteDidn't get to finish it.
Good job, Jessica! I got 133. My last sentences (they all went together) are:
Delete'As I got ready for coronation, I played my new name over and over again in my head. Amity Moonsheath. It sounded quite beautiful."
Great job guys! :D
DeleteAnyone up for another war? :)
DeleteOf course, TW! (and with this one I could possibly get my story done ;)) Want to do :05 to :15?
DeleteOF COURSE WE ARE, TW!! :D :D :D hehehe *ahem* I mean.... why, yes, that does sound pleasant. ^.^
DeleteI was having a lot of... problems with my story and my computer, otherwise I would have written more. And I'm finished with the WIP I was working on before, finished it about an hour ago.
DeleteWorks great with me! :D YOU CAN DO IT, EMILY!!! :)
DeleteCongrats, Jessica! :D (not about the problems, lol, about the finishing-of-the-WIP)
DeleteI will war!
DeleteWOOT GO JESS!! And it's ok, it's hard to jump from one story right into the next. At least, I think it is. X) BUT YOU CAN DO IT!! :D
DeleteI'll take it, though it may be my last for a while. I've got somethings I need to get done. (also, I'm sitting at 836 words already today!)
DeleteThank you :D
DeleteGO KENDRA! :D and this'll probably be my last for today, too, I need to get ready to go to work soon. :P
Delete196 is my total
DeleteLast sentence: “The same way Jacinda does, unbelievably.” I swallowed.
Ok it's two sentences...
128. My last sentence: They're
DeleteI didn't get to finish it.
@ TW lol I got 169! last sentence: A man sat on the throne. The wrong man.
DeleteOk, that is ALSO two sentences. XD
Goodbye for now everyone! I have to go be an adult for a bit. XD
LOL, Rachel :)
DeleteBye!! Thanks for warring!! :D Have fun lol
Bye!
DeleteI accidentaly went over a minute. (and then I had to count up my words, lol) I got 235. My last sentences are:
Delete'"This is the last day we'll ever get to see eachother. And here we are, quarreling." I scolded.'
249 - Last sentence: Wandering the halls on the way to Shira’s room, she tried again, and to her delight the door was open.
DeleteThis brings my word total to 1,172 - 760 from word wars on Kingdom (which just entered its final scene!) and 412 on my 100-4-100 which I've been working on between wars.
Between the two books I'm working on, and a blog entry that was a character development short story for one of the characters in my 100-4-100, I got about 1,750 words yesterday. Not bad.
ReplyDeleteSo I was searching Greek gods for a story I'm brainstorming...and the link leads to Rick Riordan's website XD
ReplyDeleteAnyone want to war? I have only gotten 1344 words so far today, so I need to get going...
ReplyDeleteI meant 134 words, but I wish I had that many :)
Deletewe had a war above that started a minute ago above. You're welcome to join us :D
DeleteOk thank you!
DeleteHmm...I'm feeling some writer's block. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting inspired?
ReplyDeletePInterest! It works for me sometimes! Or if you have any writer friends that you can talk to :)
DeletePinterest is my go to place. I choose I picture from my board that I have and then make it happen. That's what I do...
DeleteThanks for the advice. :) I think I'll skip the scene I'm currently stuck on and go back to it later.
DeleteI DID IT. :) I have 1,190, so happy. LOL
ReplyDeleteThink I'm going to go for a bit... have fun you guys! :D
Anybody want to WW?
ReplyDeleteSure.
Deleteokay! Want to do :40 to :50?
Delete:45 to:55, because I'm late.
DeleteIf y'all do another WW after this one, may I join you?
DeleteI had to stop early, and I only got 78. But I finished my book! :D
DeleteMy last sentence (literally this time):
'"You'll be wonderful."'
127 words. My last (two) sentence(s): “Do you remember how to play any games?” she asked.
DeleteCongratulations on your book!
Great job, Jessica!
DeleteThanks :)
Great job on finishing your book, Emily!
DeleteThanks, Alyssa!
DeleteWant to WW?
DeleteStarting at :20 and going till :30? By the way, my word count will be lower than normal because I'll be doing a phrase outline for school.
DeleteOkay.
DeleteI got a total of 183 words. My stirring last sentence is, "World War I stimulated industry and agriculture."
DeleteI only got 94 words. Last sentence: They had an enjoyable game.
DeleteYour last sentence sounds much more interesting than mine. By the way, congrats on finishing your book! I saw your comment on the post yesterday that you had finished.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI'm here. Anyone warring? (I'll check back in a few minutes)
ReplyDeleteHi, Linea. :) I can Word War with you, if you'd like.
DeleteI just finished warring with Jessica above, but I'll go again! I have to warn you, I'm working on a history outline for school, so my sentences and word count aren't that great.
DeleteI'm back for a bit, and can war with you.
DeleteOkay, that's great! Does 10 minutes sound good with everyone? :36 to :46?
DeleteThat works for me.
DeleteSounds good to me
DeleteSounds good. :)
DeleteI got 429. Last sentence: He could still hear, faintly, Liesel and Vater’s voices through the closed door.
DeleteMy gruesome last phrase is, "Hitler commits suicide, Japan surrenders under atomic bombs." My word count is 171.
DeleteAlrighty. 250 on the dot, though I'm not quite sure how, and my last sentence is: "Come now, give me thy answer" I'm in the middle of of a very sweet scene - and the last in the book!
DeleteTotally meant the below to be a reply. (not paying attention :P) I got 320. Last sentence: "Yeah."
DeleteGood job, everyone! :D
DeleteYou know, when placed against my last sentence, it's a good answer.
DeleteCongrats, Kendra!
DeleteThat's wonderful, Kendra!
DeleteAnother war, anyone?
DeleteI'll go!
DeleteSo, shall we war again? :55 to :05 I think one more war will finish my book ...
DeleteCongratulations, Kendra!
DeleteI'm in!
Delete:55 to :05 sounds good to me!
Delete:55 to :05.
DeleteThat's awesome, Kendra! :)
DeleteI'll do another Word War.
I got 382. How did you all do?
DeleteLast sentence: “Vater,” Liesel said, “what’s wrong?”
208 words--more than I was expecting from a history outline. My depressing last phrase: "Communism spreads through world in 70's."
Delete141 words, and my book is done. Last sentence: This is a day most perfect.
DeleteProbably won't keep it when I plunge into edits, but yeah. I'm DONE with this book. (And I've been pulling fingernails on it for the past two years, so I'm very glad to be here.)
271 here. Last (incomplete) sentence: Grant tests my defenses with...
DeleteOnly 87 words! My brain is not working today. Last sentence: “- and there’s no password, it just recognizes the owner’s
DeleteAnd I didn't get to finish it. Now that my fantasy's over, I've moved to a distopian-ish story.
Two years?! That's amazing, Kendra! A most sincere congratulations to you!
DeleteKendra, I just did a little happy dance for you. I'm sure you're relieved to have finished. Congrats!
DeleteWell done, y'all! :D
DeleteKendra: Hooray! Congratulations!
Kendra, I have an older sister who has been working on the same story for four years. She spent the first two years plotting, and the second two writing, but she keeps restarting it. A few months ago she restarted it six times.
DeleteIt's the third book in a series that I've been working on for about four years now. I tried to write it two years ago for NaNo, got good progress, then burned out at what was (then) the halfway point. I finally decided to start over sometime last year, and now it's finally done. Now to tackle book four ...
DeleteI hope that your edits (and mine, I'm kind of scared) go well.
DeleteI just want to say that these Word Wars have so helped me crank out a history outline that would otherwise be really boring. Thanks, y'all. :) Speaking of, anyone want to go again?
DeleteKendra: You've been working on a series for four years? Impressive. :) How many books do you think it will end up being?
DeleteAlyssa: I'll do another with you!
I would, but I need to go inspire myself to chase my writers block away.
DeleteWord Wars are really motivating, I've found. It's like realizing you're not all alone in your quest for writing. :) I'm still here, if you want to go again.
DeleteThanks, Athelas! :20 to :30?
DeleteJessica, inspire that writers block away! You can do it.
:20 to :30 sounds good.
DeleteAlyssa: That sounds good to me. :)
Delete@Jessica I think they will, for the most part. This book is far less messy than the previous book was, and I've already done a good chunk of editing while I typed the first 30,000 words out of the notebook and into a computer.
Delete@Atheles This series is my no-end-in-sight series. I have twenty titles written down, and more stories planned. And actually, the series my 100-4-100 belongs to, I've been working on it for close to seven years. (Though there is an end in sight with it - seven books.)
Oops, sorry, my mom needs the computer now. Sorry! :/ I'll try to get back later.
DeleteI'm just going to start the sequel to my story instead of writing my ish-dystopian.
DeleteI got 273... Not too splendid. My little brothers and sisters turned on a movie, and I think I need to go find a place where I can't see abrupt movements out of the corner of my eye. Last sentence: " “Eh,” Vater said, shrugging.
DeleteHow did you all do?
That's totally okay, Linea. I finished my outline! *does happy dance* I ended two minutes early, and my word count was 181. My last phrase is, "Our hope lies not in military or political leaders, but in obedience to God." My history textbook is a Christian one, hence the last phrase.
DeleteWell done, Alyssa. :)
DeleteThanks to all who participated with me throughout this thread for helping me to write a history outline entirely in ten-minute word wars!
DeleteI loved warring with all of you, but I think I'm going to retire my fingers from typing for a while. Bye!
DeleteDoes anyone want to ww?
DeleteGood bye, Alyssa! Thank you for Word Warring with me. :)
DeleteI'll Word War with you, Laurel. Is ten minutes okay?
DeleteThat sounds good... starting at :40-:50?
DeleteOkay. :)
DeleteI got 349. How did you do? Last sentence: "But—You—"
DeleteI totally forgot to stop :) just looked at the clock now... I was in a tough spot so I only did 141. Last sentence: Nicole laughs, and only then I realize how quiet it is outside, and how cold.
DeleteThat's okay. :) Well done! What are you working on right now?
DeleteI'm working on a story about a girl who was living in the woods next to a Stop & Shop and then someone finds her and she gets put into the foster care system. Kind of complicated... what about you?
DeleteThat sounds interesting. What genre is it? I'm working on a retelling of Beauty and the Beast for the Five Enchanted Roses contest.
DeleteThat sounds cool. As for the genre... realistic fiction? I don't know - I'm terrible at figuring out that kind of stuff. Definitely not fantasy, and it's based in modern times. I have no idea. Want to go again?
DeleteThanks. :) Okay. Sure! For how long?
Delete320. My thrilling last sentence: "Yeah." ;)
ReplyDeleteWell done, Linea! :)
DeleteI'm moved by the depth of your last sentence. ;)
DeleteAthelas: Thank you!
DeleteAlyssa: I know. So deep, right? :)
Well, I can't say much for my last sentence either, with Hitler committing suicide and all.
DeleteDoes anyone want to ww?
ReplyDelete
