Day 6 of the Go Teen Writers Word War

Stephanie here! Can you believe it's the last day of our word war? I can ... my brain is feeling a bit fried, to be honest. I'm looking forward to a day of reading as I fly home.

Here's a recap of our day yesterday. This is us pressing on yesterday morning:

Here Jill is with ONE scene left to write in her gigantic novel:

And here's Jill after she'd written her final scene: (How cute is she?)

And here we are on the shores of Lake Tahoe celebrating being out in the fresh air and sunshine:

We're all taking off and heading our separate ways today, but the war is still going on here on the blog!

If you're just joining us on the word war (or if today's the first you've heard of it) here's a quick recap:

A word war is when you and another writer (or in this case, lots of other writers!) compete to see who can write the most words in a designated period of time.

This word war began last Thursday and will end tonight! It's a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's not too late to join us!

The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we do. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the weekend goes on!

Here's how you can connect with each other:
1. In the comments section of the blog. Something as simple as "Just wrote 1,000 words in the last hour!" is fine. There's strength in being able to encourage each other and in knowing that others are hard at work too.

2. On Twitter, using the hashtag #GTWwordwar or on the Go Teen Writers Facebook Group. (This is a closed group, so if you're not a member yet, apply to join and then shoot me an email telling me so that I can get you approved pronto.)

Looking forward to a long day of writing with you!

  1. Congrats on finishing your novel, Mrs. Williamson! That's great! I've enjoyed the word wars so much, I hope we have them again soon! I'll be back on later this afternoon. (and my total for yesterday was 672.)

    1. That's amazing, Melody! I didn't do half so well yesterday, with 1,135 words, yet still it was a "good" day for me. My days are absolutely positively chock-full with duties to get done that often it is amazing I have time at all. 100-for-100 helps immensely. Keep writing! ;)

  4. Congratulations on the completion of your novel, Mrs. Williamson! I was rooting for you all in Tahoe... and I suppose for all of us writers. I am nowhere near that stage, but that I have gotten anywhere worth mentioning at all in my current novel is largely thanks to you. Your Word Wars and especially 100-for-100 have given me much of the encouragement and motivation I lacked. You are all wonderful people. Bless you many, many times!

  5. Yaaaay Mrs. Williamson! I loved seeing all those pictures, thanks for sharing! I haven't really been able to join everyone here (so little time...) BUT I have been writing! Plodding along and almost finished with this book...almost...two and a half chapters left and so ready to get on with planning the next one! :)

Here's hoping that I'll make my self-imposed deadline of the 19th...

  6. Good job, Jill! I got 1,043 words yesterday, not as much as the rest of the week, but /i still made it to 1,000

  7. I got 900 and some odd number yesterday. I wanted to get to at least 1,000, but then I got really tired all of a sudden. (could be cause I watched The Voice until late and then I had to write...) Hopefully I'll get to at least 1,000 today! :D

Aw. This word war was awesome- especially since I finished my novel. (and then started another one. The next day. XD)

I'm about to finish the first chapter of my new novel! :D (if anyone wants to fling ideas on me, or me on them, feel free to ask (either way- you telling me about your story or me telling you about mine :D))

Glad the three of you had a good time! Have a safe trip! :D

AAAAH!!!! I CAN'T WAIT FOR WHEN IT WILL EVENTUALLY COME OUT, MRS. WILLIAMSON!!!! :D

Whoo, that was a long comment :p

  8. I got in 883 yesterday. Almost didn't get that, but a friend and I did a word war and that saved me.
Congrats, Mrs. Williamson, on finishing your book! :D

  9. Would anyone like to WW? If so, do you want to do last sentences?

  10. Alrighty! Who's warring. I'm hoping for a good 3,000 words out of me today, so I need to start typing!

  11. People are quiet today...

Well, I'm finished with my school work and just about to start writing, so if anyone's around... :) I may try the G+ group as well.

    5. Okay, bye. As it happens, I have to go oversee schoolwork with my younger sibs, so I'm not quite sure when I'll be back.

  12. Only have 200 words in so far today, since I've been mostly outlining. However, I found a good writing prompt and am now feeling inspired to write a short story or something.

Anyone want to word war? :D

    3. Sorry! I got so distracted with reading my notes for today's writing run... :I. I'm on it now though!

      Delete
    4. 190! I'm hoping to reach 2,000 words by the end of today, so it's a good start, I guess. Last sentence: The realization surprises me and I take a little step forward.

      Delete
    5. Oh, last sentence for me was: But it couldn't be so.

Good job! Want to go again, on :55 I guess? I've still got a long way to go too.

    6. Can I hop in for the :55 word war? :D

    7. Absolutely, Catsi!

    8. Could I hop in the next one?

    9. I got 489 words, and my last sentence is: I didn’t believe in ghosts, so my arguing in that thing’s favor was pretty ridiculous.
      Thanks for including me! :D

    10. Sure, Jessica!

      255. I'm finally getting into the groove. Got to run and do a few quick editing things, though. Last sentence: She chuckles, but I don't sense any humor in her tone.

      Delete
    11. Ouch. 140. Having some trouble thinking up stuff here...plus I took about two minutes to realize exactly how messed-up this first draft is going to be. I mean I just realized my villain kinda disappeared...*facepalm*

Last sentence (er, dramatic fragment): For hope.

      Delete
    12. So, if anyone wants to war again at :20...I'm still trying to finish the chapter, so, LOL.

      Delete
    13. I'm in! Finished my editing bit. :) (I have no idea why it posted down there. Hmm.)

      Delete
    14. Er- are we supposed to be going for ten minutes? I so: 81. Words aren't coming. Last sentence (incomplete): Shadow only stayed in the dining hall long enough to pop a few strawberries into her mouth before she started reading

      Delete
    15. 270. Last sentence: Why had he been on my side?

      Delete
    16. It ate my comment. -_-

297, and sorry Jessica, I think we ended up doing 15...

Last sentence: "This has to be it," I said in a hushed voice.

      Delete
    17. Tat's okay, I think I need to take a break, I've been writing all day every day for five days. Bye for now!

      Delete
    18. See you later, Jessica! It's good to get a break every once in a while. :) Amanda-do you want to go for 30 minutes? I feel the need for a long war...

      Delete
    19. I'm not sure I'll be able to complete the 30 minutes (I may have to go before then), but I'm certainly willing to try :) I just finished my chapter but getting a head start on the next one will be nice. ;)

      Delete
    20. Congrats for finishing your chapter! That can be hard sometimes, I know. Let's try for 30 minutes, if you're okay with that. If you need to go before that, you can just post what you got and I'm good with that. Do you want to start at :55?

      Delete
    21. Sure, sounds great! The brain's tired but not burnt out yet and since I'll have almost no time to write tomorrow, I'd like to get an extra chunk done.

      Delete
    22. Okay! (And I just realized how many times I used 'that' in my above post. I'm a writer on her first draft, all right. :P)

      Delete
    23. 569! Last sentence: I haven't seen Isabella since she left me at the meeting room, but I'm sure she's doing some dutiful thing somewhere.

      Delete
    24. Well, I got a little carried away and forgot about the time, so this is ten minutes over, haha. :P But 768. Last sentence: Then I laid his hand at his side and turned away, dashing towards the burning building that held my best friend, telling myself the water in my eyes came from the sky and not from my heart.

And that's going to be a wrap for me today. Phewwww. So exhausted. I think that's around 2,200 today! Yaaaay! Thanks so much for warring!

      Delete
    25. No problem!

Wow. I love the last part of your sentence. It's awesome.

      2,200's a lot! You deserve a break. :) I'm around 1,300 right now, so...pressing on to 2,000!
