It's Jill! Hello! Congrats on finishing the word war!
So how did you do this past week? Add up your word counts for each day and type the grand total in the comments below. Here are our results. Remember, Stephanie and Shannon weren't word warring. They were edit warring.
Stephanie finished her first edit. (Whoo hoo!) Then she started again on a second edit and made it half of the way through.
Shannon finished the first draft of her new novel. (Yay!) Then she almost did a complete edit!
I finished my first draft of King's Folly before lunch on Monday! (So, so happy.) I typed 32,033 words on it to finish. Next week I'll start edits.
Steph and Shannon helped me come up with some great ideas for my Achan and Vrell novella. I'm tentatively calling in The Journal of Ancient Kings. That name might change, of course, but it's better than calling it "Achan and Vrell novella."
And since I got done a bit early, I started working on Broken Trust. Writing Spencer's point of view was a fun way to end the weekend. The guy just cracks me up. In the end, typed 4417 words on Broken Trust.
So my grand word war total was 36,450 words. Whew!
And we all got to type THE END on our stories.
Thanks to everyone who participated. We knew you were writing with us, and that really helped motivate us to make the most of our writing retreat. We're proud of you all!
My grand total was 5,168! And one day was the most words I've ever written, so my first Word War ended awesomely. :)

DeleteTotal was 3184. Not as much as all of you, but since this was my first Word War I'm very happy with it, and I wrote over 1k on two days :)

DeleteMy "grand total" for this Word War adds up to 6115 words. Perhaps not the most amazing, but like Laurel above, this has been my first Word War, and I am nevertheless pleased with my result. I am murderously busy these days, but this really encouraged me to make those extra minutes of leisure scrounged from here and there add up to something that is, considering my norm, awesome. By the way, to all of you above, congratulations. It has been wonderful warring with you, even if not directly. Just knowing that we're all doing this together makes such a difference, matters so much. A great day to everyone and all!

Even though before the WW I was writing upwards of 1,000 words some days... *shrugs* but, hey, I finished a novel (my first!) that I've been working on for 10 months! (I didn't realize it was that long! is it just me, or does that seem like an abnormally long time....)

I might be able to get notebooks today, though :)
The first book I ever started took me almost a year to complete, I think it was about 10 or 11 months. lol And it's not like it is this super long book, it just took me a long time to write it.

DeleteThis one will probably end up being around 38-40k before editing. But when I edit, I add stuff (like Mrs. Dittermore, I believe) So hopefully it will end up longer than that. But with one of the two publishers that I'm interested in, you have to have at least 75k :/ We'll see how it works out :)

This place called a classroom,

a football obsessed evil goblin,
who is pissed of at everybody,
we've got black bodied monsters,

enchanting timelords like me.
So here I am, on this mission of mine,
to seek out wisdom from learning all the while,
the final destany at the end, is a light out these classrooms, as I head to collage.

DeleteI got 1400 words done. I work best on word wars when rockin to Van Halen station on Pandora. my story posts are on my wattpad page. Please take the time if you can to find autisticboy's profile on Wattpad and read my book. It would make my day. I only got 1400 words done because i'm a highschooler and have this thing called School and this other thing over the weekends and on weeknights called Homework that take up most of my time. Oh yes, I was reading your book By Darkness Hid but my iPad which I read on got smashed to pieces after dropping it on the school bathroom floor and it will not appear on anyone elses Kindle so I don't know If I will be able to read it anytime soon : (
DeleteAnyways, You are a awesome writer. Reading your books takes me to a differant world where I am in a differant world instead of hell school ( my definition of high school). I lack friends so reading your books makes me forget the depression, anger, and mania I have to deal with. Not to mention it is more interesting than my cursed study guide that has unclear instructions and is poorly made and is 7 pages long. To the point: whens your next book coming out?

With a title like "Love Beyond the Shore" it certainly sounds like a historical romance. (I can't actually pull it up since my dad blocked NaNo on our wifi to keep me out of forums a few years ago. Frustrating, but it was necessary.)
DeleteBasically, the main difference between a historical fiction and a historical romance is the focus. A historical fiction will focus on events and culture, though there may be a romance on the side, while a historical romance will focus on the romance, with the events and culture just the setting for it. It's your call, and you can pretty much put it in either genre (or both) interchangeably if it has at least a very strong romance in it.

Yeah, that sounds more like a historical romance - and I would further classify it as a Christian Historical Romance, than a straight up Historical Fiction. It certainly sounds like an interesting book! Not many people are willing to tackle the what happens after the I do's.

DeleteKendra had good advice, Patience. (Thanks, Kendra!) As long as there is two single people getting together in book one, that's romance, and the sequels would follow. A lot of times in such series, the publisher asks you to choose a new romance for each book. So in book two, maybe the sister or friend of one of the leads in book one could be the hero who is finding love. (Think about the Love Comes Softly books by Janette Oke. Each one has a new couple.) But if you're telling the story of one family and only the first one has the "boy meets girl" romance formula, the publisher might classify the series as historical. This is actually a great question for Roseanna.
DeleteThe above advice is pretty sound. The general rule is "If you take out the romance, is there still a story?" If the answer is yes, then it's not a romance. If the answer is no, then it is. Something to keep in mind though is that strict romance definitions require, as Jill mentioned, two single people getting together by the end. While marriage of convenience stories (no consummation) can fall in romance because they're not really TOGETHER (ahem), those that involve a true marriage early on are usually not considered romance by those who like strict definitions. So that, too, could get a book put into the "historical" rather than "romance" category. Even if it's a love story. Which is, I think, what your question might boil down to. "Romance" has the boy getting the girl at or near the end. Love stories often involve a longer relationship and the nuances of it.
DeleteI got a grand total of 12,078 spread over about seven books/short stories. Most of those stories had been suffering from serious writer's block, so I was thoroughly grateful for the inspiration to press through on them. I actually finished one of the books, the one I was needing to finish, so I'm really happy.

DeleteYeah, at the current moment, it's scheduled release date is February 14. (Not a long gap between finishing and publication, but I'd already done a lot of editing while typing it out of the notebook, so only the last few chapters, which weren't in the notebook, are really messy. I usually give myself more time.)
DeleteIt's the third book of a series, so I recommend reading the first two books first - Sew, It's a Quest and Do You Take This Quest? both of which are already out.

I just am glad to met someone else who has problems and loves to write. Someday I wanna write a book. I have many problems and writing is my little escapeway from my crazy life . The other reason I write is it makes me feel better same with books. I go through a lot at school and have multiple times stayed up late at night wondering why people hate me, all the while crying . I've in the past gone so far as to attempt to kill myself. I feel like everyone hates me and I write to express how I feel and I read to forget my messed up life

XD I was REALLY struggling with this chapter so it was hard. :P I got 1439 during the word war, but I'm going to be happy with that; at least I finished the chapter! Yay. :)
