Last Day (!) of the June Word War

It's FRIDAY! Shannon here. And for the record, I'm not hanging out with Jill or Steph or any of the cool folks out at OYAN. Instead, I'm here Word Warring it out with you guys! I SO NEED TO FINISH THIS BOOK!

This is the last day of the word war, but if you're just joining now, please feel free to jump in--any bit of writing is a win, right?

If this is the first you've heard of the word war, here are the details:

This word war is a friendly competition to motivate participants to write as many words as they can in a designated amount of time.

While some word wars are shorter (fifteen minutes or an hour) and strict, this will instead be a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war. So start when you want and participate whatever days you can. There are no hard and fast rules. This is about encouraging each other and writing a lot of words. It's that simple.

How you can connect with each other:

1. You can connect in the comments section of the blog. There will be a post every day, and we'd love for you to keep us updated on how the day is going for you. Something as simple as "Just wrote 1,000 words in the last hour!" is fine. Seeing everyone's posts will help to encourage each other in knowing that we're all hard at work.

If you want to break the time into smaller word wars, you can post that in the comments section too. For example, you could arrange a word war from 1:00 to 2:00 with a few people.

2. You can connect on social media. On Twitter using the hashtag #wordwar or on the Go Teen Writers Community Facebook Group. This is a closed group, so if you're not a member yet, apply to join and then shoot an email to GoTeenWritersCommunity(at)gmail.com telling them so they can get you approved.

Happy writing, everyone!

  1. About to head off to an eight hour work day, so I won't be able to word war today, but I managed to get in some 700 words before I have to leave and hopefully I'll be able to get some more in when I get back home tonight. :)

    1. I don't know if you're ready for the awesomeness that is my current WIP. ;) It's a YA fantasy I'm describing as Ice Road Truckers meets Frozen meets Mad Max: Fury Road. AND I'm having so much fun with it. If I can stay writing, I'm a couple weeks out from having it drafted.

  4. I've been writing a lot this week, though I haven't been able to officially join in! But you guys have all been doing such great jobs :) Anyone up for a war?

  5. Hey homies! I'm going to be writing on and off all day! My daughter's piano lesson got bumped up so I have to head out soon, but I'll check in with you all later! If you want to sprint with me, I'll post about it on Twitter later this afternoon (remember I'm in the Pacific timezone). If you're on Twitter, my username is ShanDitty.

  7. I'd love to stick around and war with you guys, but at the moment what I really need to be doing is THINKING of something to write :D. I finished the first draft of my current project (woot woot!), so ... now I am project-less :D. But if I think of something quick, I might be around to war this afternoon.

    4. I got 606. My last sentence was "Best to leave it alone." :)

    5. Wow! That's awesome! My last sentence- She nodded, but her eyes were vacant, as if she were a million miles away.
If you have time for another word war, I'm up for it!:)

    6. I got 580. My last sentence was: Then we would flicker, and the others would see us and Arianna and I would be in trouble.
Kind of a fragment, but oh well. They're invisible in some underground lab place, so it sounds a little weird.
