What's a word war?
How does it work?
You can also start mini word wars in the comments section of this blog, or on the Go Teen Writers Community Facebook group. (If you apply to join, leave me a comment on the blog so I can get you approved.)
The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we write. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the war goes on!
How long does it last?
This word war begins today and will end Friday night. It's a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's never too late to join, and you don't have to participate every day.
Looking forward to a fun—and productive—day!
Awesome! I've read past word wars on the blog but have never participated in one! Although, I may not be able to do a lot of word warring today, we'll see.
ReplyDeleteI'm so doing this! This will be my first real word war. I'm going to be working on book two of my trilogy, so this is perfect. This is going to be so awesome. :D :D
ReplyDelete*gasps* I didn't know the GTW word wars were starting so soon! I'll be around later today to war - I'm super excited! :D
ReplyDelete~ Savannah @ Scattered Scribblings
Ok, so, I was going to work on editing a thing today, but now I'm super tempted to switch to writing so I can join in on this. We'll see what happens once I actually get down to business.
ReplyDeleteYAY SUPER EXCITED. XD I was so thrilled to see this in my blogger feed- I had no idea the word wars were starting! *flails* I have VBS this week but I might be able to fit a few wws in. :D
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm extra excited to participate! I've been working on an idea I first thought up a few months ago and scribbled down on a stray piece of paper. Can't wait to see how it goes! =)
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I'm sure it will be great! :)
DeleteAaaaaaagh ANYTIME BUT THIS WEEK.
ReplyDeleteLOL, but I'll be sure to pop in. This is my first time with reliable internet, so I am SO EXCITED.
AHHHHHH!!!! This is going to be so much fun. NO DEADLINES! Whew!
ReplyDeleteI'll work on my newest WIP. You guys are so much fun. Lol
Yay!! I'm so excited--we are on vacation this week, but I will try to get some writing done in the mornings and evenings.
ReplyDeleteOh, boy. I hadn't realized that a Word War was happening this week. o.o
ReplyDeleteI have two major tests to study and prepare for... but maybe I'll sneak in a word war or two with my editing sometime? If anyone's around in the comments to war me, that is.
When do you think you'd be able to war? That sounded weird. Lol
DeleteI don't know if anyone wants to war with me, but I think even if someone does, I'm probably going to war with myself, lol. Today was not productive. It wasn't a good day. But, without the bad days, you can't have good days.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I worked on my second book for my trilogy. I got down 923 words for that. I also worked on a new idea. It was just a quick little blurb, so that was 225 words. All in all, I got down 1,148 words. Not productive for me, but tomorrow will be better.
Good luck to everyone. Remember to have fun.
God bless y'all. <3
I'm so stuck. I dunno if I'm going to stick with my WIP, or start a new one to stick with. *sigh*
DeleteToday, I got 199 words down. *bangs head against wall*
Ahhhhhhh!!!!
Umm, I can give you a shout out once I think I may be able to do it and am organized. Lol
Fun. Yes, remember that. It feels so HARD sometimes. Sheesh.
No problem. Don't rush and just enjoy what you're doing. If you feel stuck, don't scrap what you have. Set it aside and work on a different project. That's what I do. When I go back to my first project with a clear mind, it makes it easier.

That's what I was thinking about doing. It's one of those moments when you feel like burning your WIP. It's...sad. Lol
DeleteThanks for the advice. :) Sadly, I'm thinking that I may need to do an outline this time. *groan*
God Bless.
Well, it might help. I'll be doing a post on my writing process soon. Keep your eyes peeled for that. I'm going to try to get an extra post up with week. Maybe that will help you find your own process. Hearing other people has helped me because I just found ways to manipulate their processes to fit what I prefer.
DeleteYou'll get the hang of it. Don't burn your WIP. You'll want to come back to it one day. Even if you don't, it can be a great reference later on in life of how much you've grown, though I'm sure you're being hard on yourself about your writing.
God bless. <3
Oh, you'll save me, Ivie! Lol
DeleteI've actually come up with a new WIP, that I'm thoroughly outlining adn doing an interview with the character for. God has given me an idea! Thank you, Lord! Lol
I will definitely read your process. I need process ideas. I think...I cheated to get over writer's block. Ahh! I'm starting a new one and might go back to my old one sometime. Plus, I have some other WIP cuts, that I can include in this one. I feel so bad! *sniffle*
I was just thinking about seeing how much I've grown in my writing. I looked at one of my book beginners from a couple years ago and about died. It was SO cheesy and choppy...and...and...ahhhh! Well, I've certainly gotten better...thank goodness. Lol
I am. I know I am. I'm positive I am. *hyperventilating* I know I'm being hard on myself. That's one of my weaknesses.
Bless you! <3

I'm in the editing phase for one of my novels so now I am working on something small while I take a break. I wrote about 1,500 words today.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite paragraph I wrote today was:
I see life differently than everybody else.
They say it’s just a vapor of time, that’s true. A timeline that occurs with millions of people, for zero to thousands of seconds. That time stopped when I saw my grandmother die. I stared death in the face and dared it to take me too.
I love that!!! At first I skimmed your comment and thought your Grandmother died and was about to give you a whole sympathy speech. Lol
DeleteGood for you! I've only written 199.
Lol. I must be good because it looked real to you :) After all, aren't fictional characters real in our hearts? ;)
DeleteFrom what I've read, you're a very emotional. I mean, you give words and write sentences that I wouldn't think of writing. You're really good. :)
DeleteSo true! My characters feel like a part of my family. Lol I hope that's not unhealthy.......xD
If its unhealthy I don't want to be healthy lol
DeletePreach it! Fictional characters feel real sometimes. I'm going to be sad when my trilogy is over, but I'm thinking about writing multiple trilogies to make a series or something like that with the same characters. We'll see how that goes, lol.
DeleteAlso, Anonymous, great job on the word count. :)
Anonymous: Me neither! Lol
DeleteI'm in the very beginning of the first draft for my novel and wrote 507 words today. My goal was 1000, so I feel pretty disappointed in myself, but I might write some more tonight. I'm kind of intrigued by the idea of a direct word war with somebody, but I'm not confident in how fast I can write yet, since I took a two month hiatus from writing before this.... Anyway, happy writing everyone!
ReplyDeleteEvery amount counts toward the end goal so don't feel discouraged. You can indirectly word war with me if you want. I didn't get much in yesterday, but I'm hoping later today will be different. Of course, I have some things to do before I write, but I'm still going to get some words in. Just remember to do what you can. Every little bit counts. Maybe war with yourself to see how much further you can go. That's kind of what I'm doing.
DeleteGod bless. <3
Thanks for your kind words Ivie! I tend to judge myself really harshly, so this really helped. <3
DeleteYour welcome! I judge myself very harshly, too. I understand the feeling.
DeleteGod bless you! <3
Didn't see this until late this evening, but I was able to get 3000 words today anyway! I'm half-rewriting for the second draft of my novel, and now I'm super motivated.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed. Hopefully I can get near that much in today. Good luck with the rewrites. :D
DeleteAw, thank you! Good luck to you as well :D If you have myWriteClub, I'd love to sprint with you on there!
DeleteI don't have mywriteclub. Sorry. Thanks for the offer, though. I'll look into mywriteclub, though. Sorry again. If you want to sprint on here, I might be able to do that around 10:00 this morning. (central time)
DeleteActually, sorry. I'm going to be busy. *Sighs* But, I'll tell my total word count on today's GTW post later. Good luck to you again. I'm sure you'll do great. :) <3
DeleteGod bless.
Good luck to you too! <3 :D
Delete591 in my WIP, a novella retelling of Snow White, and then about 1500 on a blog post. Not bad, not bad at all. At least for this current season :P I need to be more motivated. School ends today!
ReplyDeletethefloridsword.blogspot.com
Woohoo! School ended for me Friday last week. Not sure if you saw my post about it, but I graduated! Nice word count, btw. Hoping to get more today for my second book. :)
