June 2017 Word War: Day Three

Jill here! We're hosting a summer word war this week on Go Teen Writers, and we've reached day three. I must confess, I'm not word warring this time around. Why, you ask? Because King's War (book three in the Kinsman Chronicles) is due. Today!

Whoo!

So I'm working hard to give the beast a few more tweaks and a major spell check before sending it to my editor at Bethany House.

I'm so excited.

But that doesn't mean I'm not cheering for you all as you get a lot of writing done.

What's a word war?

A word war is when you and another writer (or in this case, lots of other writers!) compete to see who can write the most words in a designated period of time. Sometimes these are also referred to as "word sprints."

How does it work?

Write as much as you're able to today, and when you're done, leave a comment in this post about how the day went. You can share how many words you wrote, stumbling blocks, a favorite line you wrote, whatever you want!

You can also start mini word wars in the comments section of this blog, or on the Go Teen Writers Community Facebook group. (If you apply to join, leave me a comment on the blog so I can get you approved.)

The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we write. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the war goes on!

How long does it last?

This word war began Monday and will end Friday night. It's a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's never too late to join, and you don't have to participate every day.

Hope you have a great writing day!

  5. Grr... I wish I could, but I'm setting up my blog this week.
    I have a little question.
Is uploading an image to your computer and webiste and then linking it to a website considered hotlinking? How would you correctly attribute a book cover featured on your blog?

I know that this site isn't about blogging, but this seems like pretty basic questions, and quite a few people blog on here.
    Thanks!

    1. I don't know if that is considered hotlinking, but I do know that you can add images to a page or post and then add a link. (Honestly, I just learned this today.)
Of course, the images I was using were blog buttons. I don't see that being different unless I'm misunderstanding the question. Hopefully that helps. :)
      God bless.

  6. I have been having trouble writing at all this week because some of our animals (I live on a farm) have been having emergencies (like me running over one that isn't dead and hopefully not too badly damaged and one having to go to the vet to have her kid pulled. Fun.) So, I am tired I would love to be writing more, but oh well.
Good luck on your book Mrs. Williamson!

  7. I didn't get any writing done yesterday because we were at Disney (yay! :) and we got home at midnight, but I wrote some this morning. Since we're on vacation, I didn't bring my computer so I'm writing by hand! Yay but ouch, I have a hand cramp now. 😂 Also, I had to count the words myself, so that was fun. :) I wrote an estimated 300 words in about an hour--not my best but pretty good considering I'm writing on the balcony and my siblings are watching Gilligan's Island behind me. :) :)

  8. So, today I did three separate fifteen minute sprints. Here's the break down:
    Sprint One: 671 words
    Sprint Two:594 words
    Sprint Three:780 words
This was all for the first draft of my second novel.
For a side project I'm working on, I wrote 338 words.
So, my total word count for the day was 2,830 words. I wish I could have done better, but every little bit counts.
    God bless y'all.

  9. My writing day was cut off when the site I was using to write crashed (causing me to get distracted and lose motivation), but hopefully it'll be back tomorrow so I can back up my work. All in all, I got ~4.2k words, which is still good! I'm secretly hoping for a 10k day tomorrow, though.

  11. Today, I was feeling sick, but before that I wrote about 1,308 words in about in hour. I wish I could've written more, but glad I the progress I made for only an hour of work :)

    1. Feel better soon! I think that's still a good word count considering you weren't feeling well. Every little word count makes a difference. :)

  12. 2471 words in my dystopia, and 477 words in my Snow White novella. Not bad at all.
