What's a word war?
How does it work?
You can also start mini word wars in the comments section of this blog, or on the Go Teen Writers Community Facebook group. (If you apply to join, leave me a comment on the blog so I can get you approved.)
The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we write. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the war goes on!
How long does it last?
This word war begins today and will end Friday night. It's a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's never too late to join, and you don't have to participate every day.
I'll be writing with you today! I'm working on the final chapters of my WWII era novel. What will you be working on?
I'll be here around 1 Central Time if anyone wants to war with me!
ReplyDeleteCurrently editing here but have to rewrite some scenes on my WW2 story, so I'm game!
ReplyDeleteI'll be writing/editing off and on all day, so send a shout-out if anyone wants to war with me!
-Ann
I'll war with you!
DeleteI'm going to be working on my first draft (blah) of my adventure novel. I'm hoping I can make it to 25k today.
Hi Abby, did you reach your goal?
Delete-Ann
No, my word processer expired and wouldn't let me add anything. :( I was really disappointed.
DeleteAw, I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can get it straightened out soon. :(
Delete-Ann
Great! When do you want to report back in?
ReplyDelete-Ann
I am doing some research at the moment but I hope to start the first draft of a fairytale retelling. The Frog Prince this time.
ReplyDelete- Book Dragon
Go, team, go! I have a very full day (of pool sitting) but if I can swing by later, I so will.
ReplyDeleteLater than I anticipated getting to my computer, but anyone up for a word war at 2 (Central?)
ReplyDeleteI'm game.
Delete-Ann
Great! We'll check in at 3 to see how much we got done?
DeleteOthers are welcome to join if you see this in time!
I don't know if I can get much done, but I'll give it a shot!
Delete1,038 for me. How'd you guys do?
DeleteAbout 700! I'm a slow writer, so I'm happy.
Delete-Ann
1,050. A few of those words were from before I officially joined, but I started late anyhow, so I think they still count. :P
DeleteGreat job, Mrs. Morrill and Ann! That was fun!
Glad I could war with you both. Thanks, and good job!
Delete@Olivia: what genre are you writing in?
-Ann
I think the best way to describe my genre is YA Christian Medieval Alternate History. What genre do you write, Ann?
DeleteNeat, what event(s) will you change?
DeleteI'm writing Historical Suspense right now. It's a second draft, so lots of editing/rewrites involved. How far along in your book are you?
-Ann
My story takes place on an island inhabited by a Roman colony, shipwrecked pirates, and the descendants of the lost colony of Roanoke. Alternate History may not be the perfect label to give my story, since the island remains hidden and does not affect the world as we know it (though they might be discovered by the end of the series; I haven't decided yet).
DeleteHistorical Suspense sounds interesting. What time period is your story set in?
I split the first draft of my story into two books and so have gotten to write a lot of fresh material that was previously covered in memories and flashbacks. Technically, that puts me in the second draft as well, but your story is probably a lot more developed than mine.
Sounds fun!
DeleteMine is set in summer of 1942. The story was the victim of my first Nano attempt, so how developed it is, is debatable. Lots of plot holes to fill. :p
Hope we can war again. Happy writing!
-Ann
Nice job, girls! How fun that all three of us are writing historicals!
Delete@ Ann: 1942? How cool! My story takes place around that time, though that doesn't matter much on a hidden island. :P I think history is so inspiring, since there were so many amazing people who lived before us and helped to make us what we are today. Good luck with your story!
Delete@ Stephanie Morrill: Very fun! I just recently read The Lost Girl of Astor Street, and it was great. I really enjoy WWII era books and have read a lot of it recently. I can't wait to read your book once it's in print!
Aahhh I also read The Lost Girl of Astor Street/am writing a blog post about it. The mystery + shipping Mariano and Piper, oh gosh. I love it.
Delete@Olivia: Ha, that is cool! And yes, history is inspiring and fascinating. I love it.
Delete-Ann
Cassandra! That made my night! Thank you :)
DeleteI'll be writing from 5:30 to 6:00 EST, if anyone cares to join in. :)
ReplyDelete-Ann
Looks like everyone's been doing pretty good today! I might be around later tonight to war, if anyone will be around ;).
ReplyDelete~ Savannah | Scattered Scribblings
I didn't war with anyone since my schedule is iffy, but I got in 1,408 words today. I meant to get more in, but unfortunately that didn't happen. I might get a little more in tonight, so I'll update on that if I do.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, everyone. :)
iviewrites.blogspot.com
I change my word count to 1,977. I did a little more this evening. :)
DeleteGood job, Ivie! What genre are you writing in? Don't know if I've asked before or not...
Delete-Ann
Nice work, Ivie!
DeleteWell, I'm calling it a night at 2,019 words. Till tomorrow!
ReplyDelete-Ann
Fabulous, Ann!
DeleteI got done 535 words of my first draft. Not much but I tried. Anyway this was fun I will see what I can do tomorrow.
ReplyDelete- Book Dragon
535 is great. Hope to see you back here tomorrow!
DeleteWelp, I'm done for the day at 2446 words. I spread them out over a couple of projects - a short story, my journaling project, and the sci-fi draft I'm trying to beat into shape.
ReplyDeleteAhhh my Camp Nano word count needs this XP And I'm leaving for a six day trip on Saturday, so the timing is perfect. Thank you for hosting this! <3
ReplyDelete2525 for today. I'm starting the rewrite of a dual POV sci-fi about a scrappy little girl who's determined to find her father/escape soldiers that are after her + a morbid assassin who is forced to find redemption through saving his superhuman people.
ReplyDeleteI wrote 2,000 words. I had hoped for more, but this is a lot better than nothing! My favorite sentence of what I wrote would have to be, "Again, Kakoo had no knowledge of her imaginative thoughts, or else he might take it [training in a booby-trapped setting] as a suggestion from her."
ReplyDeleteAnyone want to war? 1:50 to 2:30 (central)
ReplyDeleteI'm cutting, and on Monday, I cut 2178 words!
