What's a word war?
How does it work?
You can also start mini word wars in the comments section of this blog, or on the Go Teen Writers Community Facebook group. (If you apply to join, leave me a comment on the blog so I can get you approved.)
The goal is to buckle down and focus on our manuscripts whenever we can, make good use of our writing time, and encourage each other as we write. Hopefully you'll be meeting new writers and deepening friendships as the war goes on!
How long does it last?
This word war began yesterday and will end Friday night. It's a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war, so it's never too late to join, and you don't have to participate every day.
Looking forward to a fun—and productive—day!
I'm starting at 10 central if anyone wants to write with me!
ReplyDeleteI'm there! Or here. Or...in front of my keyboard, needing to buckle down, at any rate. =)
DeleteI'm on board!
Delete-Ann
Perfect :) I'm fumbling my way through the climactic final scene for Evalina. Not sure how climactic it's feeling...
DeleteYeah, mine currently feels like, "And they walked toward the town...and, like, things happened. It was super suspenseful..."
DeleteAt least both of us will have something to do in the critiques stage, it sounds like :)
DeleteHa! I'm lucky to just spit some words onto the page. My characters don't want to talk right now.
Delete-Ann
Ann, that's the worst! Maybe the solidarity of writing with others will help!
DeleteHad to stop for lunch. Got down 1,537 words. It'll need a lot of work, but at least I have something now to work with. :)
DeleteThanks for letting me join in! Let me know how y'all fared.
-Ann
That's great! Thought you said you're a slow writer ;)
DeleteI wrote 1,100 and then had to pause. Back at it now!
2,955 and having to pause to take a kiddo to camp. Feel good about the morning, though!
Delete@Ms. Morrill: Nice work! Is the climax feeling more climatic now? :)
Delete-Ann
Don't know if my last comment went through... my computer's kind of temperamental today.
ReplyDeleteAnyone want to war from now till 2:30 (central)
I'm having to pause, but I'll be back around 1:30. Might be able to war with you toward the end?
DeleteOkay!
DeleteHave to map out my next scenes, but I'll try to join in at one, Lydia. :)
Delete-Ann
Ah, I have to go. But I did get 700 words in. Happy writing!
Delete-Ann
I got 1744 words. Less than I would like, especially for the amount of time, but I'm happy with what I wrote. :) I'm going to take a break now, then I might come back and do something with my other WIP.
DeleteQuality over quantity is a good trade. Thanks for letting me hop in. ;)
Delete-Ann
I was busy yesterday, didn't get the chance to put any words down. Now to see how far I can go today.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Delete-Ann
Would anyone like to war with me for about an hour? (so until 3 central time)
ReplyDelete- Book Dragon
I'll war with you, Book Dragon!
DeleteCool!
Delete- Book Dragon
182 words. How much did you get?
Delete- Book Dragon
I was able to work pretty steadily and got 934. Thank you for hosting the word war, Book Dragon! It was a lot of fun!
DeleteHey anyone on to war for about an hour? :) (until 5 EDT)
ReplyDeleteI know I'm a few minutes late, but I'll war! :)
DeleteAwesome! :)
DeleteNot sure exactly how this works, but I've written about 455 since you posted. :) (A fast-paced chase scene that is going very slowly!)
DeleteI got 718. :)
Delete493 for me :) Which is good considering I didn't write yesterday. Very intense and important scene.
DeleteIf anyone wants to race to a number of words (I call it word sprints rather than word wars), then I'll be on writedeck.com watching for any new sprints to pop up. ^~^
ReplyDeleteIf you want to do one on there, I can put another one up.
DeleteI'm starting this one in a moment: http://www.writedeck.com/sprint/KND73fo2uLo3ujibY
DeleteI'd like to try this--how do I find you?
DeleteOkay, I guess I missed it. :)
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteSorry. I missed it. But here's one. :-) http://www.writedeck.com/sprint/2YoMFdkKMaaRzjBS3
DeleteWell, never mind. xP I'm going to go eat dinner, so I'll be cancelling that sprint. But my name on there is FaithSong, so if you see my sprints, I always start them very quickly. :-)
DeleteThanks for telling us about this! I joined and did one (and lost). But it got my juices flowing so it was great! I'll definitely be trying it out again!
Deleteswim team practice took the whole morning, so I'm trying to finish up some school and hopefully get some writing done tonight. Goal is 2k words tonight, but we'll see. :)
ReplyDeleteYou can do it! It can be hard to stay focused, but it is so worth it. :)
Deletethanks! yes, focusing is very hard for me. :) we'll see how it goes! :)
DeleteFocusing can be hard for me, too. I found this piano instrumental music on YouTube that's supposed to help with concentration. It seemed to help me a little and didn't distract me. Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SygnuHXCIjE
DeleteIt has helped me and there is lots of other instrumental music on YouTube. Usually music distracts me, but this doesn't.
God bless you! <3
ooh thank you! I will have to try that. I'm writing now, and I'm up to about 300 or so words...:)
DeleteHope your day was productive!
Sorry, I'm a little late to reply. Yes, it was productive. Not as much as I wanted, but a little is better than nothing.
DeleteHope your day was productive as well. :)
Ahhh! It's going to be hard for me to war this week. Yesterday was my birthday and I am leaving this weekend, so lots of preparing. I'm definitely going to try and participate tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteHappy late birthday! Have fun and don't stress. Writing will happen when it happens. :)
Deleteiviewrites.blogspot.com
Thank you, Ivie :)
DeleteWell, time to call it a night. I wrote 3,011 words today. Probably my speediest word wars to date too, so I'm tickled pink. :-)
ReplyDelete-Ann
Great job! I wrote 2,700 something words. (the number is not accurate, unfortunately, as the zeros are placeholders for two other numbers that I can't remember.)
DeleteBut, it was productive. :)
ok, so I wrote about 1000 words tonight. I didn't meet my goal (2k) but hopefully I'll be able to tomorrow. super tired now, but happy that I at least managed to write something. :)
ReplyDeleteHey, that's still progress. Good job! My goal for Monday was 4,000 words, but I didn't even get close. So now that's my goal for the week instead.
Delete821 words today. That's more than yesterday so yay. XD See you all tomorrow.
ReplyDelete- Book Dragon
3,181 words for me today. It's so exciting to see my story progressing!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, all you word warriors! I'm glad to see everyone accomplishing so much. :)
Wrote around 3800 words today! Thanks for the word wars, guys! I'm revising so I pretty much know what happens in each scene, but rewriting it mostly from scratch. Still, think this is the most I've done for a while! Motivation helps! :D
ReplyDelete2,066 today! Writing in a child's POV is so much fun, oh my gosh. I've never done it before except in toying around, and it's one of the POVs in my current story. <3
ReplyDelete*yawn* I'm a crazy night owl, but I'm going to sleep now. I wrote 321 yesterday, and...1683 today. I'm not gonna be writing tomorrow--my brother's birthday!--but I'll definitely be back the next day. I've got to finish the seventh chapter before I can work on my Snow White retelling for the contest.
ReplyDelete*yawns again* G'night!
~ Gracelyn
818 words today, but I basically took the day off so... yeah. I did also got a new blog post up. So probably around 1500 total? More to come tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteAn amazing blog post! Everyone should check it out. :D
