What are your writing goals this summer?
Go Teen Writers is officially closed today so we can enjoy Memorial Day with our families.
Today is the last day the Go Teen Writers ebook will be on sale for $2.99. The reason Jill and I decided to run the special this weekend is because Memorial Day weekend traditionally marks the beginning of summer, and summer is when a lot of you get to focus on your writing the most.
I want to get most of my macro edit done this summer (fingers crossed) :)

DeleteHmm I wish my summer holidays had already started ;) Anyway, my goal for the summer is to finish the first draft of my current WIP. Fingers crossed I'll get that far!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Arlette. I have been aching to write "The End." My summer vacation hasn't started yet either. Another three weeks...*groan.*
DeleteOh, me too, Arlette and Alyson! And I also have about another three weeks till my summer break actually starts. If I wasn't so far behind on my schoolwork, I'd probably only have another two weeks (including this one). If I wrote 1,000 words daily for 75 days, I'm thinking I'd finish it. But that's a pretty tall order!

DeleteThroughout the school year, my writing sorta got cut out between school, speech, and debate, so my summer goal to to get a thousand words written each day, except weekends, that we're not doing anything. :D

Thanks for asking, Luci! Currently mine are:
Delete1. To not totally embarrass myself during the classes I'm teaching and mentoring sessions I'm holding at a teen writer's conference in June.
2. Get my edits done on the second Ellie Sweet book and turned into my content editor in July.
3. Flesh out a couple book ideas I've had so I can get my agent's read on them and figure out what project to pursue next!

DeleteMy goal is to finish the first draft of my WIP this summer. The 100-4-100 challenge really helped me go a long ways with it, but it would be great to finish it by the end of this summer:)

ReplyDeleteThis summer, I want to overcome my bad habit of second-guessing everything I write. I want to LOVE what I write, and just...well, just write. Instead of focusing on how much I hate my writing, and not letting myself write, just set it aside and create my book. I also want to take part in Camp NaNoWriMo this August :)

ReplyDeleteUm... I've got to finish the first draft of my novel which I finished at the beginning of May (and subsequently lost), so writing about 30k more on that.
ReplyDeleteI'm also going to try to edit that and my first NaNo, and get them ready for CPs. (Well, I only have one CP right now, but still...)
I'm also going to write the first draft of a contemporary novel that I've started, but haven't finished due to setbacks.
Oh, and I'm going to an incredible two-week writing camp in NYC!
I'm going to have a busy summer. And I am so excited.

I'm starting again after realising how I can make the plot stronger, so I'm currently only at ~1000 words.
My goal is... well quite frankly it's to do SOMETHING, anything at all. Between extra classes and looking for a job, I don't have time to do much writing at all :(

My goals are to participate in Camp NaNo, use my copy of the Go Teen Writers Book as a Bible, revise my more promising drafts, develop some more story lines, and rework some SUPER old ideas! Maybe I can squeeze in an entire revision? :)

ReplyDeleteMy goal is to decide my goals. So far I have too many options. Either I'll draft a new book or fix up one of mine from the 100x100 or re-edit something or keep querying or ALL. That saying, they're my *winter* goals. ;) Hehe...I'll be typing fast to ward off frostbite. In bed. Under the quilts.

ReplyDeleteMy goals are to macro edit my WIP and send it out for Beta readers. This is kind of hard, because I've never done it before! I hardly know where to start! I also plan to rewrite a book that I've gotten halfway through twice, and then I always bomb out, so I'm hoping to get a bit further through it. :) I'm also, regretably, only halfway through term, here in the Icy Land of Australia.

Oh no, it's okay:) I'm glad you're interested:) While, the pitch for my book is: Maybe you've felt the pain of being betrayed by someone close to you, someone you love- but I'm sure you've never felt what I've felt; being betrayed by yourself. It is called Nimueh: Throne of Magic. (Maybe, that's one of the terms we have to clear up;))
DeleteHow I got my publisher is a very interesting story. Basically, in the back of an old book I saw one of the fifty cents for a book thing, and though all hope was lost, I sent Penguin a letter, telling them about it and asking for the book. I got a personal letter back from the head of penguin, telling me how ecstatic he was to find me. He sent me the book I had asked for, plus two more books he said he enjoyed when he was my age. We started writing letters and e-mails to each other and next thing I know, I've landed him as my publisher.

My main goals are to have The Ankulen ready for release by September and get My Kingdom for a Quest written. I'd also like to finish the book I worked on for 100 for 100, but at the moment, I don't see that happening ...

DeleteI'm pretty new to writing, so I decided to start with fanfiction. I've had this idea for a few years now, and since I don't have any 'original fiction' ideas that are fleshed out enough to write yet, I decided to go with it. I'm going to be rewriting a series, with a simple twist at the beginning that will change what's going to happen quite a bit. The detailed outline of the first book is almost finished, and I'm hoping to write a first draft for that one this summer, as well as detailed outlines for the rest of the series.
ReplyDeleteI know there are quite a few people who seem to think writing fanfiction isn't really writing, but I don't really agree with that. Writing is writing after all, even if the characters might have been thought up by somebody else. Also, since someone like Cassandra Clare started out with fanfiction, I figured I would just follow my muse for the moment.

Honestly, if you're pretty new to writing, fanfiction is a good way to 'dip your toes in' per se. In my experience, it helps you later on in the areas of character development (because you have to change the characters beyond what the author originally wrote them) and dialouge. One thing it doesn't help with, though, is world building and also description. Because your readers already know what the MC looks like, you don't have to explain, but it's good practice.

ReplyDeleteSchool's going to be out in two weeks where I live and I'm hoping to take advantage of that! I'm hoping to write two and a half out of the four novellas I plan to write using word wars and word sprints as I've found them super helpful. Each novella will hopefully be 25,000 words.... I think I can do that by the time June comes!
