WORD WAR: Day One

Jill here! As I mentioned in this post, today we're kicking off a five day word war here on the blog!

I typed 819 words this morning. Now I have to break to drive my daughter to her grandma's house, so I will miss a chunk of the day. But I'll be back this afternoon to check in with you all and to keep on writing!

Is this you've heard of a word war? If so, here are the details:

This word war is a friendly competition to motivate participants to type as many words as we can between now and Friday.
While some word wars are shorter (fifteen minutes or an hour) and strict, this will instead be a come-and-go, write-when-you-can style of war. So start when you want to and write as much as you can. There are no hard and fast rules. This is about encouraging each other and writing a lot of words. It's that simple.

How you can connect with each other:
1. You can connect in the comments section of the blog. There will be a post every day and a final word count post on Saturday. So post your final word counts every day. Or post them in segments, if you prefer. Something as simple as "Just wrote 1,000 words in the last hour!" is fine. Seeing everyone's posts will help to encourage each other in knowing that we're all hard at work.

2. If you want to break the time into smaller word wars, you can post that in the comments section too. For example, you could arrange a word war from 1:00 to 2:00 with a few people. You could also do that on Twitter using the hashtag #gtwchat or on the Go Teen Writers Facebook Group (this is a closed group, so if you're not a member yet, apply to join and then shoot me an email telling me so that I can get you approved right away.)

Happy writing, everyone! Can't wait to join see how many words we write!

  6. Great job, guys! :D

My goal for this week is to completely edit a chapter of my novel - Dreams Along the Shore - each day during the Word War. I'd love for you all to keep me accountable! :D I'll check in each night with what I was able to get done in Dreams. Editing is slow going for me, and this will be a great motivator. :)

I also want to finish the first part of my outlining process for Love Along the Shore this week. We'll see how it goes! :)

I'm trying to pick back up a novel I started writing a little while ago, so I'm going back and reading what I've written. I only have two more chapters left to read, and then I'm ready to start writing!

So my MC is trying to fight for freedom. She escaped the fields, but she just got caught again. I love torturing character. Kind of ;)

    17. Okay, I'm trying to get my Google account to work. :P

Great job, guys, by the way! :)

I'm writing a YA Christian sci-fi/thriller about the daughter of a doctor who is asked to come help find a cure for a mysterious disease that's running rampant on a tropical island.

    18. Yeah... 30 minutes is too long for me. Would you like to do one for a shorter amount of time?

    19. Katheline: Google can be a bit obnoxious sometimes... That sounds interesting! Is it a natural disease, or...?

      Katie: Ten minutes?

TW Wright: Aah. *glances down* *whisper* Focus on your Word War!

      Delete
    23. Okay, I think I got it figured out. I just don't have a profile pic. :P

Athelas: No, it's not natural, and it actually starts a biological war, but they don't know that. :P

      Delete
    24. Figured out is good! And profile-picturelessness isn't bad. You have a lovely orange B, and B's are always good.

Oh, fun. Biological warfare is always interesting. Will she be able to find a cure for that particular disease?

      Delete
    25. I'm writing a Christian YA Thriller called The Hunted :) It's about a girl, who's a fugitive because she's been accused of murder. It's about her fighting to survive and discovering her faith. You guys' books sound awesome!

      Delete
    26. Sorry! The internet conked out, and then I had to get something finished... But I can do it now if you're still on for it!

      O.o! It's a, "B?"

    27. Ashley: That sounds interesting. :-) Did the murder actually have anything to do with her, or was she just an innocent bystander?

Katie: I'm still here! Ten at the... :55?

      Yeah. B for Blogspot.

      Delete
    28. Thanks, Athelas! It indirectly had to do with her. It was an accidental murder... someone was chasing her, and ended up knocking someone off a bridge in his hurry to do so. The man blamed her instead. :)
