Stephanie, Shannon, and I are all joining in for National Novel Writing Month this year, which is kind of fun. So you're going to see a lot of NaNo encouragement on the blog this month. I'm hoping to write even more than 50K if I can manage to.
*cracks knuckles*
Sadly, so far I'm not off to a very good start. My day has, once again, hijacked my plans. Besides my every-day morning rituals that take a few hours, I also had a book release today, so I had to spend some time on social media this morning working on that. And now I'm here, blogging. Plus some book orders came in through my author store, so I need to go to the post office and mail those this afternoon... So I'm hoping to get busy as soon as I finish this post. Because so far, here is my word count for Day One:

Uhm... yeah.
And that's something I want you all to keep in mind. Yes, NaNo takes consistent work to reach your goal, but life happens. And sometimes you have to go with the flow and do your best to squeeze in that writing time wherever you can--or make up for it later by doing double the work, which can be really challenging. Somehow you need to type in those precious words that will keep your word count rising toward your goal. NaNo will give you all a really good look at what it is like to be a professional author with deadlines looming. You've got to find a way to make it work.
Stephanie will be checking in with you every evening to get your word count for the day, so if you're participating in NaNo, be looking for those special posts.

DeleteBecause of life stuff I also got 0k yesterday. Today I'm hoping to bump that total up. Good luck to anyone who may feel "behind" at any point this month. Sometimes pushing yourself feels like a lot of work, so remember to have fun while you're writing! :)

DeleteBecause of work and life, I almost didn't know if I should do NaNo this year.. But I have been wanting to do it for a long time... so I signed up! LOL. I'm sometimes a bit too crazy, and love near-impossible challenges.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I had to make a "schedule" in order to keep the November part of my life in order... I left room for unexpected life, I hope...
I do my NaNo writing in the early hours of the morning (after a brisk run). So far that has been going great!
I've had this idea in my head since I was 14... so excited to be finally writing it!
My novel is a retelling of the original Egyptian Cinderella story, mixed with the biblical Esther story, plus lots of my imagination. It is set a generation after Abraham's time in ancient Egypt. One of the unique things: my moral of this story is true love is a choice... a lot of tension is caused when Estella is forced to marry the Pharaoh... when she believes she loves another. It doesn't help matter much that the Pharaoh isn't the most nicest person ever.
Any ways, by book is called THE FUR SLIPPER - there's a whole mystery surrounding her slippers, too.

This is my third year doing NaNo and I think it's going to be the best one yet. Most of my writing group joined me, which I'm super happy about.

DeleteI think that my goal this month is simply to get at least one sentence on the manuscript each day. At the end of the month that's 30 sentences right? I have (unfortunately) honed my procrastination skills - I'm actually supposed to be doing homework right now - so I'm setting a goal I know I can accomplish and hopefully get into a habit.

It's been a long time since I've really worked on one of my novels (thanks to college and my job) but I'm determined to get back into it, since my books apparently aren't smart enough to write themselves. ;P I'm not sure how I'll find the time, but as they say, where there's a will...

ReplyDeleteNaNo for me this year is a bit interesting, because I haven't had much time for reading OR writing this year (dang study) and I'm switching up my genre AND I had to lose my usual intense planning because I had exams up until the end of October.

So far I'm a little low on the enthusiasm (struggling through on sheer determination alone) but doing ok word count wise. We'll see how long it lasts!

DeleteI'm going NaNo for the second time, but I've done other similar writing challenges in my writing group, The Order of the Pen. Sarah Rodecker (who posted up there somewhere) is the leader, and a pretty good one, too. :)
