NaNoWriMo Day 2 Check-In

How's day two going, writers?

I slammed down 2k while Eli napped this morning. But it took ignoring my laundry, and telling several who were messaging me that I had to "go dark" to get my words in.

I think that will be a consistent thing for me during November, having to get crazy focused in order to get the words down. Often I allow my focus to be splintered, and that's just not an option if I want to meet this goal.

What about you? I'd love to hear how your day is going, and what you anticipate letting go of during November so you can take hold of writing your book.

  1. I woke up late and have had no time to write, so hopefully I can get some done after school.

    1. Wow, Josie, good job making time to write while you have school and homework and . . . exhaustion from school! I am impressed.

  2. Just got a few hundred words past my daily goal today. It's not a lot, but every word counts I guess. I will probably have to let go of the Internet in general while writing, so I can have that as a reward lol. Good luck to everyone!

  3. I'm...still outlining. I find that I do better when I have a detailed outline and struggle to get words down if I don't know where I'm going. so I plan to start actually writing Saturday night and go from there.

    1. Me too, Katie. I spent all morning storyboarding, and then I came and typed it all in, which helped my word count. If I don't know where I'm going, I'm lost! Hope you got some good outlining done today. :-)

  6. I struggled through 500 this morning and then realized I'd gone in completely the wrong direction with my inciting event--I have at least one false start with every story I write, but it took me until today to realize it wasn't working--so I had to rethink. But I just found at least part of the answer I needed, so now I'm going to shoot for another 1500 in the next hour or two and hopefully get my plot going forward.

  7. I didn't get any writing done today... I had work and it wore me out. I couldn't find the energy or motivation to start writing. :( I'm glad I wrote enough words yesterday to cover my words missed today. Hoping to get a lot of writing done tomorrow!

    2. Thank you, Stephanie! I do feel really well rested today. I'm going to try to write all day and get a few thousand words in, but we shall see how that goes... I did end up writing a couple hundred words last night, but then I got distracted. It's better than nothing, though! :)

  8. I'm at a little over 2k today, and my goal was 3k... not sure if I'll quite make it there, but I'm happy I passed up the target word count. :)

  9. I wrote 2184 today. I didn't start until 11, so some of those words are after midnight, but I'm counting them since I have yet to sleep. Have you tried a word crawl? They're basically little stories set in your favorite universe (Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Gilmore Girls, etc.) where you write a certain amount of words to get through the story. They're pretty cool and the NaNo forums have a bunch of them.

  10. I ended up deciding today that my current idea wasn't working, so I'm scrambling to put together another idea last minute. However, I have a good feeling about the new idea :)
